  • Sent to prison in 1997 on a murder charge, which he still challenges as wrongful imprisonment, Carl Brown served his time and walked out of prison a free man in 2008 with nothing but the clothes on his back and $7,000 in cash. Now at age 62, Brown is a two-time prison escapee - once in 1998 which was short-lived - and another time in 2000 which lasted for 10 years. During that time, he lost his left arm while hiding out in neighbouring Venezuela. During an extensive interview with the News Room’s Kurt Campbell, Brown talks about his time behind bars and puts forwards his own recommendations for a turnaround of what he says is a most inhumane experience.

Prison isn't suppose to be a pleasant place, but it should certainly be a place where humanity has a chance to start for these unfortunate souls putting themselves through hell.
