All your videos have inspired me to sit down and really learn and understand Phaseplant and really just try to improve my production in general.

I think a lot of people overcomplicate the idea of “adding a B section”. It’s as easy as making a different loop. Loop A and Loop B don’t even need to have anything in common. They can have different tempos, time signatures, and sounds. Contrast is simple. I think it’s more interesting when a B section is completely different. I don’t think there needs to be any “familiarity” as you say. Familiarity can be boring. Familiarity is for the comfort of the listener, and being comfortable when listening to music isn’t necessarily good.

Well, goes both ways yeah? Sometimes if a completely different section isn’t introduced well then it out sounds like two random ideas strung together. Usually there still needs to be something in the composition that ties it together and that’s what I had planned on explaining in a later video. I don’t think it has to be one or the other but remember that this video is meant to be a cultivator to start getting people to modify their approach to making more dynamic compositions.

@@Alckemy Absolutely, it’s a matter of preference. I think it’s really up to the listener to make connections between sections, even when connections and similarities aren’t immediately apparent. Nothing is truly random! Looking forward to the rest of this Meta series!!

for me, it's about "the idea". i come up with "the idea", think about how many times i want to expose the listener to "the idea" in a theme over the course of the track (usually 2-3 times), how many dynamic variations of the theme will carry out an idea, think of how to spread those variations out, then just figure out a bunch of random crap to throw in between each chunk of the main idea and it's usually drums/rhythm that make for the easiest variations in between. but really the easiest way to make dynamic beats is program several 2-4 bar patterns and then run every pattern through different drum kits. then just sample & chop everything up to mix and match.

Thank you for this video this is something i have been trying to get better at. I have heard this advice but from different perspectives. I appreciate hearing your perspective as I feel like it resonates more closely with me. Will be thinking about this more as i go into my next projects ❤

This is definitely nothing new but sometimes that different perspective is what it takes to get that aha moment
