Yes that is also possible. I didn't want to "go there" just yet. Waiting to see how they present things in the show first. I hope it is thorough like that.
I started to read it and I actually thought it was quite good. I became too busy reading and researching other books to continue with it though. Once I heard the show wasn’t really following the book much, adding new characters etc. I thought I’d go into the show fresh without any expectations on the book adaptation sense.
I really like the more Bene Gesserit focussed Heretics and Chapterhouse where things go very weird. It makes sense doing a prequel financially and because they have to follow the order of the books for Herbert's books. I haven't read Sisterhood but hopefully there are some fun characters we can hate like Schwangyu and a protagonist as strong as Odrade. Given it's set 80 yrs after Butler's Jihad hopefully they include the fact that space travel is highly dangerous given it's an experimental phase with the use of spice (I think). I'll give the show a chance and think it will be ok/good, nice video as always!
Yeah I'm keen to see what they do. Perhaps they'll tease some ideas from Heretics and Chapterhouse too in an indirect way. Thanks glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm really sorry to be that guy... but I don't feel very optimistic for this. I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong though - I would very much like for this to be good. It's just, that after everything that happened - with all the delays, departures and changes - I have this sad gut-feeling that this show might just have been creatively tinkered to death, like seen bevore with several other HBO shows in the past. And HBO Execs demanding this be made to be more like Game of Thrones or whatever else they believe sells best right now, would totally explain the delays, the changes, and why people with the creative integrity of a Denis Villeneuve (and some others) would rather leave, than give in to that commercial pressure.
The bald head of Valya wouldn’t make sense since this is 10,000 years before Paul, and that means Geidi Prime wasn’t settled and abused by the Harkonnens yet.
Of course you're right, I just meant something to match the Harkonnen aesthetic that we know. So perhaps a shaved head, bulky armor, or just a black and white scene (not necessarily on Giedi Prime, but just Black and white, or the architectural look of Giedi Prime.
Exactly! Villeneuve explained that hair removal is a tradition that the Harkonnens have embraced - probably after settling on Giedi Prime - as a way to distance themselves from their past. Their baldness represents purity and a rejection of their origins.
Cautiously optimistic will be the term I use for now. Aesthetics seem heavily to rely on the new Dune movies, which is kind of a let down, they should be their own thing.
Maybe the narrator, the Harkonnen Sister? She may be as from the Book of Voices written down by Ghanima much later: if she was one of her ancestors perhaps that is how this fits together? Or even a recollection by the God Emperor, an extract from the journals uncovered on Rakis!! 😊
The bowl: from water does all life begin 😂. Maybe it's an infusion made from the plant found on Rossak, as who is to say if an illuminating poison need be blue or have colour? In fact, maybe we will get to see chaumurky and chaumas in use, as i think they were used more in the earlier Imperium?
I read the Sisterhood of Dune last year. It was a very good book. If I remember correctly, Vorian Atreides the hero of the Butlerian Jihad, had a very large role in the story. One of Valya]'s main focus was the killing of Vorian. She blamed him for the death of her brother and the shame of House Harkonnen after the jihad. I think the 2 wolves thing may apply to Valya and her sister Thula. They were both extremely ruthless and cunning in their plans for having Valya take control of the sisterhood, and Thula in murdering one of Vorian's relatives. I'm thinking the name of the series is called Dune Prophecy, instead of Dune Sisterhood will be because they plan to remove a lot of content that was originally in the book. Hope I'm wrong.
what I couldn't figure out is why the dune letters kept showing up with different elements, which was confusing much. This ain't avatar. I feel they could have portrayed the bene gesseritt mastery in other ways thats not so cliche. Everything else I'm waiting till I see it to form an opinion.
Blahhh the books will always be the books and totally separate from these fan fiction spin offs. Dune 2 was a good movie but the end was laughingly butchered and quite bad.
I had a bad feeling about this when I realized its poor source material. So many amazing people were to take part. And everyone left! Its like this teaser ... not a single original concept ....
I’m hoping the new characters and possible plot lines will make it a more interesting exploration of the overall themes Frank Herbert wrote. Some things show promise like the link to Paul Atreides, the sandworm symbol tease which I didn’t go into yet (saving that until we see more later evidence). Hoping it’s not more book reader bating like some things on the movies.
Haha, thanks. I think the other way is due to the 1984 movie influence on the pronunciations. I tend to say the new movie way more now as it is more correct as you say. but a Har Cone un might slip out from time to time 😅
I may be giving them too much credit, but could she be talking about Paul Atreides because that voice is a genetic memory that is speaking to someone during/after Paul's time?
Also, in the title I don't think the D is supposed to be smoke, but maybe earth? Earth, fire, water, and air are generally considered "elements" in a lot of fiction, but then again the ice kinda throws a wrench in that so who knows.
@@secretsofdune control or balance of elements is also imo like the 4 humours of the body in older medicine, if one goes off balance causes illness.. the elements are all interlinked just as the sisters work inwardly to create balance/control. I'm reaching a bit lol!

From what I remember the pomegranate u showed in that clip, I think that in myth was eaten by Eurydice in the Underworld hence she couldn't fully return to the living with her consort Orpheus.. so maybe here it's a BG way of drawing on their awareness of myths and symbols as in the Panoplia Propheticus? When they've eaten the piece of it they are partly in the other world joined to Other Memory?
I know some folks are let down by the aesthetic being like the films, but i actually feel the opposite: Im GLAD the aesthetics match. Its feels nice to know we are in the same world that many of us so love. The aesthetic is also not exactly alike. Its similar. That's good in my book!
Personally i would have prefered if they focused on two other houses and built a series around them with some connection to arrakis. Helping to broaden the scope of the universe rather than simply deepening the lore.
Uhm. The fight looks the same as something 10k years in the future? But then its about 11k in the future from us. But damn, the Butlerian Jihad was potent!
@@secretsofdune I would say less crude imo, more technologic and such because humanity adapted slowly, was still using computers and such before spice usage and the differents schools get rid of it
There is another possibility for Valya's narration, that she is someone's genetic memory. I don't follow the prequel lore, which I understand this show uses (or pretends to, to appease the...estate), so I cannot say if any main series characters are her descendents. Perhaps there will be an implication in Part 3. Like you, I am interested to see the show develop its own identity separate from the films, but I wonder if they will feed each other. What feels like centuries ago, Denis Villeneuve was going to direct the pilot.
This is set roughly 90-100 years after the butlerian jihad, at this point the Empire and the Great Houses are estabelished, tho the system is still on its early days The new Dune movies's events happen 10 091 years after the jihad
As I mentioned in the video, I only started reading the book. But the series will only be loosely based on the book, so there isn’t much point in reading it.
I understand. I guess this is to keep us "occupied" until Messiah comes out. I think what will be interesting is to see how this ties to the movies, if they do at all.
Hopefully, they will show the Weirding Way of battle an d interaction with the Guild and Mentats, which were all sadly lacking from Dune Part 2. The bald, pasty look of the Harkonnens in the movies is environmental, not genetic (black sun, polluted industrial planet). She’s not from Geidi, I don’t believe.
The bene gesserit regularly kill men in the books using the welding way and train them so idk what that weird gender comment was about. There was supposed to be a scene of Paul training w Jessica in dune 1 but it was cut
My comment was referring to Princess Ynez fighting a man in the Dune Prophecy trailer which will appear in the show, not a scene about Paul and Jessica, so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. My point was that I hope the show isn’t pushing some weird statement in that scene and that a woman can fight a man and win as well as lose depending on her skill. If she beats him with a bene gesserit skill for example that would be cool.
Probably, given the political climate, we should really not be expecting any Islamic influences - at least not in the way we see it in the written work. Much like the movies, they will be notably watered down and also eliminated.
@@secretsofdune it all depends on how cynical the BG sisters appear ie manipulating religious ideas to gain footholds over others with no thought to real faith: maybe we will also see a broader look at other beliefs eg the Two Wolves makes me think of the duality seen in Zoroastrianism - good v evil which can be viewed as internal conflicts with free will being paramount..that value ascribed to free choice seems to reflect what the BG would term as 'human' as it implies self control?
