Just a little heads-up for foreigners traveling to the United States the reason we have the tipping culture we do is because in the restaurant and service industry you do not get paid minimum wage which would make up for the hourly pay you would receive in other industries. I understand that tipping can be costly but as someone who has worked in the food service industry for years I can say that this really has an impact on the service workers. It is extremely rude in the American culture not to tip the good servers!!
