For me: Melancholy is a better album, but I think Reclaimer is much more my style and is way more fun, making it my preferred album. Reclaimer is personally a top 5 favorite album all time for me, god I love this band.
Agree, Melancholy is a masterpiece but I prefer Reclaimer, too.
Reclaimer is one of the best albums period. Reclaime killed this album in my opinion.
Yeah for me both albums are pretty much tied but usually I give melancholy the recognition because it was the first album i heard from them and it got me into them
I’d say The prophets beckoning ft. Tom Barber is a hidden gem off of Reclaimer that not many people have reacted to!

The Prophets’s Beckoning, The Mausoleum of Liars, The Tartarus Impalement, and The Mad Tyrant’s Betrayal are all crazy underrated tracks from that album. The Prophet’s Beckoning is legit one of their best songs, and it seems like no one talks about it lol. Other than Oudenophobia and Underneath a Sullen Moon, it has my favorite chorus from them for sure.

Melancholy was my album of 2019. But reclaimer and then primordial and the halo lore days was the perfection

The return is one of my all time favourite songs, it's absolutely fucking filthy ❤️
We Descend...The Return will always be my favorite SOI. First songs I heard from them and it's just perfect. And THEN i discovered it was all about Halo and that sealed the deal
I personally prefer Melancholy to Reclaimer. Lyrically and musically. This is not a knock on Reclaimer, I just preferred the incorporation of more blackened death metal and the lyrical content of Melancholy.
Edit- I forgot how fucking well Ben can be spittin too. Wow.

It's sad nobody reacts to The prophets beckoning by Shadow of Intent. Imho it was the best song off of Reclaimer.
Melancholy and Reclaimer get a lot of love, deservingly so....however not many mention Primordial. That album wrecks just as hard.

Both albums level for me, melancholy was the first SoI I ever heard and it blew me away, so it holds a special place in my heart. Reclaimer is just killer though

i completely feel you on liking the reclaimer album more than melancholy but i still like both.
Can never go wrong with some "speed screams" from Ben, Chris Weisman (think I spelled his last name right) is a monster of a guitarist as well. This song is also among my top 5 SOI songs

Yeah, it's the name of a Covenant ship if I'm not mistaken. I'm not super familiar with the Halo lore though so take it with a grain of salt

I also do love Reclaimer more than melancholy. I know they moved away from halo, but let's hope they do it again for infinit.

Sounds a lot like these guys were fans of Mors Principium Est. Maybe not, but the similarities are crazy. Reminds me of stuff off of Termination = Liberation. Any of the first 3 tracks are great representations, Animal Within in particular. Check it out, a little old school, but still holds up.

I had a feeling the lyrics were about half when I saw the covenant and "the ring" mentioned and thankfully you confirmed it for me birb, metal bands love to write concept pieces around halo and I don't blame them

I kinda down when he’s not like deathcore , i love Shadow Of Intent a lot . I love the pig squeals , low and high . I’ve been listen to them and my fav one is Barren And Breathless Macrocosm , those song hit me so well . I’ve got goosebumps every time i listen to it but i prefer Reclaimer more than Melancholy

Replace sentinels with humanity and you got it. "The origin of my existence" is referencing humanity as 343 Guilty Spark was once a human
Especially when he says "if only I possessed the form in which I was born. A living body so I can embrace and rejoice" that's a huge reference to his past
Maybe Metal Bro should check out some Within The Ruins stuff. In my opinion they sit right in between Deathcore and Metalcore. Also because they have song with and without clean vocals you can easily get sued to their style while still icreasing the heaviness.
Fit for an autopsy - Black Mammoth or Thy Art is Murder - Puppet master........ These were the ones that got me into deathcore. Love Shadow of intent now also as a result :D

Reclaimer and Primordial are so much fun, and then Melancholy seems a little dreary by comparison, which isn't a bad thing but...
For me Primordial>Melancholy>Reclaimer
Melancholy is easily my favorite album they've released. Reclaimer is great and maybe a top 10 deathcore album of all time (I'm a big Halo boy too so that doesn't hurt), but Melancholy just feels so much more massive and honestly I think the song writing was much tighter. The Dimmu Borgir vibes, the refined song structures, and the best guitar work from Chris to date (imo) puts Melancholy on a god tier level for me. Yeah Ben doesn't get as crazy with his vocals and it isn't the big breakdown and shred fest that the early albums were, but I think the restraint they demonstrated on Melancholy really payed off in the end and led to the entire record feeling more meaningful and mature. I can totally understand why someone would prefer Reclaimer though since it definitely has a "fun" factor that Melancholy doesn't quite have.

I think Melancholy is a much stronger album than Reclaimer.
I think it's thematically different, definitely not better but most certainly not bad. Reclaimer is insane. Wish Melacholy had more ft artists.

I’ve never given deathcore a try, SOI changed it. The Heretic Prevails is everything, his vocal range shines in it. They also have one of the best guitar solos imo

I absolutely love the first half of Reclaimer but always find myself skipping most of the later half whereas Melancholy I can listen to the entire album on repeat without skipping a track

I definitely prefer Melancholy just because I am an absolute sucker for that sad and emotional atmosphere as well as black metal elements. That said, it’s legit in my top 5 favorite albums of all time so saying I prefer it is no diss against Reclaimer at all. Reclaimer is also absolute perfection, I just prefer Melancholy’s style a little more. In total, Shadow of Intent is hands down the best deathcore band at the moment imo.

I do think Melancholy is better and way more mature. But i understand why you like more Reclaimer. In my opinion just the darkness of Melancholy and the theme played in that album is far superior than the others.
Melancholy is a dope album and so was their first album but Reclaimer is their best album in my opinion🤷all their albums are unique in their own way ...i didnt like Melancholy the first time and then i gave it a few more listens and it grew on me i give it a solid 8/10

I think I'm probably the only one who wasn't hyped by Melancholy, sure short time enthusiasm, but compared to the badass solos, more deathcorish vocals and the epic riffs of Reclaimer, Melancholy just came off flat to me. I sure like Blackened Deathcore or even some BM but the whole "badass" tone of reclaimer somehow got lost in Melancholy for me.
Edit: I just realized I actually favor Primordial over Reclaimer aswell. The didacts will and The shaping sickness being my absolute favs

Gravesinger has a black metal style chorus so it makes sense that you wouldn't be super into it if you aren't already a fan of death/black metal. To me Shadow of Intent is more of a tech/symphonic death metal band than deathcore, especially with Melancholy where they basically gave up the super slow stereotypical breakdowns altogether.
Also, Malediction is the best song I've ever heard. I meant what I said.
