They have only one guitarist, yes. The guitarist, Chris Wiseman is responsible for writing and composing most(if not all) of their music. He also does the clean vocals. Ben Duerr, the main vocalist, has great range, incorporating different styles(as evidenced in this song) and the lows.. I don't think I've heard anyone who does it better, like you said those lows feel full.
'Malediction' or 'Barren and Breathless Macrocosm' should be your next track to check out from these guys.
The Heretic Prevails by them is my favorite and shows Ben’s range a little better
@@mitchellyoung7513 Gathering Of All has two of the best low vocalists in deathcore in one song, Ben and Alex, which only makes it better imo
This whole album MELANCHOLY 🔥 is incredible. It's among best metal albums in years!
Fun fact: Their previous drummer (who recorded this song and the album it’s on) is the current live drummer for Babymetal.
He is an absolutely INSANE drummer.
'Gremlin Effect'...what a nice illustration. Thanks for reacting to another track on my playlist (ha! For real, thanks to Tank). You wanna hear Ben and Alex Terrible of Slaughter to Prevail in a song together? Check out The Gathering of All, but on your own time ofc because there's only lyric video to it. Resonance game strong in there. Get Tank to it too because he's a fan of both.
Unfortunately, there's no good quality recording of SOI playing live atm.
This will probably be the best live recording of SoI around for a long time. Taken from their live show in Lakewood, Ohio that I was lucky enough to attend. They were amazing!

“I want to hear more, I need to hear more.” Welcome to the deathcore rabbit hole, Chase. Enjoy the ride.
Glad to see you reacting to Shadow of Intent. They are the best deathcore band along with Lorna Shore imo
They are so much more evolved than Lorna. Everything is up front. Can you hear any bass at all on any recent Lorna albums?
I concur with everyone who has recommended The Heretic Prevails. It's the song they're most known for and it's a jam!
Commenting before watching this time to say that I got introduced to these guys a few months ago or so myself after seeing some people talking about them in either Chase's comments or Tank's (can't remember which). This why I love these reaction channels and the community around them, just a bunch of music lovers sharing sounds the love and introducing each other to cool new artists! And now a reaction I've been looking forward to since reading those first comments. LET'S GOOOO!
Hollow Prophet is the vocalists side project, they have a KILLER line-up; worth checking Infernal Cleansing or Scumprophet (collab with Scumfuck)! Thank you for featuring Shadow of Intent, awesome content :)
I love Ben's voice so much. Extreme versatility, and he can somehow still enunciate in his lows.
Check out Malediction by them..alot going on for you to breakdown and appreciate, great reaction mate 👍
Great reaction Chase! I highly recommend "Malediction".
Shadow of Intent and Lorna Shore are the kings of deathcore atm in my opinion. I definitely prefer Shadow of Intent tho; their last album Melancholy (which this song is on) is this insane concept album that sounds like the metal equivalent of a horror movie. It’s absolute perfection from start to finish, and 100% my favorite thing to ever come out of the genre, and one of my favorites to come out of metal in general.
This is just tip of the iceberg of what Shadow of Intent can do. I highly encourage you to check out more of them because they're just incredible musicians and thier live performance is also ridiculus from what i've heard and saw on youtube. There's also a video of Ben (vocalist) recording a breakdown from "The Heretic prevails" in ONE GO, you could also check that out, get to know how he really sounds like.
Shadow of Intent - The Heretic prevails ; this is from thier second album "Reclaimer", which in my opinion is more on raw, meaty side and "more deathcore" meaning you can clearly spot and pick a lot of things that you would associate deathcore with (don't misunderstand, they were still much more than just plain deathcore back then).
Shadow of Intent - The Horror within ; of off "Reclaimer" album, very underrated song imo, blend of very heavy and melodic parts, a lot tempo changes and a showcase of what Ben is truly capable of.
Shadow of Intent - Melancholy ; from thier third album "Melancholy", this is also title and opening track. Matured sound, throwing a lot more stuff into the mix to the point you can't really label them into any genre imo. No music or lyric video on this one but it's still perfect song to start with as it gives you a taste of what you can expect from the entire album.
Shadow of Intent - Malediction ; of off "Melancholy" album, closing track, simply amazing.
On closing notes i feel like Shadow of Intent is still keeping themselves in check, that they can do even more, it's not thier final form. Ben for sure keeps his vocals in check because that's the sound Shadow is going for, but trust me, Ben is absolute monster, apex of his craft.
I really like "The Horror Within" by them, too. Gravesinger is alot more melodic than that though.
Just discovered them at the end of last year and Dirge of the Void and Barren and Breathless Macrocosm are already my fav songs :D Currents has some dope tunes too, same guitarist/composer.
Oh boy one of my favorite bands. Cant wait to see how it melts your face 😍
13:02 new data installed for 4 secs.
Yay for palm muting!
That vocal entrance you referred to as "not sure what that sound was" is what we call The Quintessential Ben Duerr Sound. No live recording, but I vote for Malediction.
Try out Shadow of Intent "The Dreaded Mystic Abyss" - instrumental piece of art!
I love this band, not my favourite song but still a very good one!
Check out the first parts of the song melancholy, his vocals are pretty intense there.
That's my boy Bryce on drums. Happiest man alive.
🤘🇫🇮 Nightwish army Finland Stay safe and Take care of Your loved ones...
missed a few videos. so good to be back! my morning coffee and Chase reacts.
interesting comment about the growling, never been able to explain why some deep growls just don't grab me and you explained it well. it's because they lose the richness of their voice. some deep growls just sound so monotone to me. cool cool :)
A lot of people are suggesting "The Heretic Prevails" by these guys. While that song is really good I think it is not their best work.
They have immensly matured as songwriters with their last album called "Melancholy". I would love to see you check you the title track. It's a masterclass in heaviness, melody, pacing and catchyness!
Awesome reaction man - I need to up my game!! You’re so thorough and technical, while at the same time being understandable and engaging - loved it dude 👊💀

No pause guaranteed. You're welcome 😎
He is mixing typical death metal vocals with black metal vocals. As a singer he is a true talent.
Oh, Chase!!! Yer gonna LOVE this one!!!! It'll be No! No! No! all the way through!!
Definitely check out more Shadow, they're one of the best deathcore bands out and have been for the last 4 years. I see a lot of people suggesting The Heretic Prevails which is a good song and a lot of people's favorite, but Ben actually came out and said it's his least favorite Shadow song surprisingly. Out of the three albums they've released, I'd have to say Reclaimer is by far the best and you can't go wrong with any song on the album, but I feel the "lesser known" songs on that album are much better than the most popular songs they put out as singles (probably besides The Catacombs, which features two excellent guest vocalists). If you're looking to see Ben's full range then The Heretic Prevails is definitely a go to. Either way, you can never go wrong because every single song they've put out is quality.
Jack Nicholson at 12:31.
Heeeeere's Johnny!
I will also suggest slugdge- salt thrower
Gojira- wolf down the earth
Rivers of nihil- subtle changes
Son of Aurelius- facing the gorgon
Slugdge - heavily underrated! I love War Squids!
I'd also add something from Sulphur Aeon- literally anything from The Scythe of Cosmic Chaos album. Hell, listen to the whole album. It's a masterpiece!
@@narcissus79 Vektor- Recharging the void
This is,a song i need him to do
@@narcissus79 I love slugdge war squids its the perfect song to start that album off with.
I'd recommend "The Heretic Prevails" or "Malediction" if you want to only do tracks with music videos. Favorite is "The Tartarus Impalement", but no video on that one. Shadow of Intent are primo deathcore and they LOVE their symphonic elements, which is great because it makes them unique.
Great video man so happy you finally came across these guys. There is only one guitarist, they just layer it in the recording but he does write all his own parts and is also the guitarist from a band called Currents. Ben Deur is the vocalist and he's just a monster. If anything I'd recommend Malencholy. That song really shows his vocals off but also watching anything live would be a great experience.
Shadow of Intent - The Catacombs
This reminds me a lot of Puritanical era Dimmu Borgir and Midian era Cradle of Filth, I like it!
If you're interested in hearing Ben's incredible vocal talent taken to a whole different level, check out his other group Hollow Prophet. Either the song scumfxxk featuring Dickie Allan from Infant Annihilator, or Infernal Cleansing which its just pure gutteral supremacy.
shout out to everyone working front of house and being the silent player behind the scene.
Cool breakdown of this awesome song. Not a massive fan of deathcore myself. I'll get hate for this but I think alot of the stuff I've heard seems like bands just competing for the craziest breakdown or most brutal vocals, rather than actually writing songs. These guys stand out for me though. The "gremlin" vocals remind me of mortuus from marduk and the whole song has a strong black metal vibe going on too, which is always going to woo me. Another cool deathcore band you should check out is Humanity's last breath. Their songs are so artfully put together and have so much atmosphere. Keep up the good work my dude! 👍
Ben has one of the biggest ranges in deathcore, probably only behind a few, Dickie Allen is the only one that comes to mind atm though.
Shadow of Intent are sick!
For something completely different but potentially up your street, could you do Deadrose by Unprocessed? It's gorgeous tech-metal/prog meets pop.
Any song off Melancholy is amazing. The Heretic Prevails is a fantastic song on Reclaimer
Malediction and The Return are my absolute favorites by these guys. They’re always playing in my truck or at work.
ooooh this is unexpected.. will be interesting
I always liked how Shadow Intent uses symphony to make the music have a sort of epic feel
🤘
The Hertic Prevails and the prophet's beckoning are a must listen to from shadow of intent
Shadow of Intent are definitely masters of the deathcore genre. I saw you reacted to Lorna Shore, but I didn't see any Slaughter to Prevail. I'll have to recommend their song, of course, Demolisher. (You might have heard them already, but I'm a new subscriber and for some reason my search isn't working at the moment)
I would love to see you check out more, they are one of my favorites. There is a clip of Ben recording the breakdown from the song the Heretic Prevails live. I would suggest doing the song and that clip together. Oh, and have a damn good day.
You gotta listen to Malediction by them. Arguably the best written deathcore song. Or basically any song from Melancholy.
Do "Malediction" next!
Please peep more of their stuff. They have waaaaaay better tracks. This one is actually one of their more simplistic ones in MY OPINION
Shadow of intent rips.gotta do more.
"Not very familiar with deathcore, but we're about to be" -- are one of the favourite words I like to hear from open minded people :D
Definitely have a listen to The Dreaded Mystic Abyss by them if you have the time. The most interesting instrumental I've heard in a long time and keeps you hooked over it's entire duration. Keep up the reviews man!
Love it, homie!! Great band. If you wanna go down the deathcore path, here are some suggestions:
- Enterprise Earth - Failsafe Fallacy
- Thy Art is Murder - Holy War
- Aversions Crown - Ophiophagy
- Fit for an Autopsy - Black Mammoth
- Chelsea Grin - Hostage
There are a whoooooole lot more, but those are some of my favorites.
Also, more Shadow of Intent:
- The Heretic Prevails
- The Return
- Malediction
Keep up the great work, brother!
Rorschach logo band! Gee, I wonder what they're going to sound like. Edit: Yup. Thumbs up for Chase!
Fun fact: Shadow of Intent's first 2 albums are about Halo
Also theyre my all time favorite band!
Brand new bandmaid song came out. Also this is my favorite deathcore band and they are locals of mine. Currents is the guitarists other band that you should also check out. I recommend into despair and monsters
you should consider checking out Maelstrom by Stasis :)
Try react to Sign of Swarm, Thy art is murder, Slaughter to prevail, Ring of saturn, Heaven shall burn, White Chapel and Job for cowboy
The guitarist Chris Wiseman is also the lead guitarist for currents! Another band you should check out. He’s a beast
I love the instrumentals for this band the vocals are a bit to much for me. Which when I found out they have an instrumental album. If you do listen to another song from them I recommend "The Heretic Prevails". I love the contrast between the piano and the rest of the deeps sounds of the rest of the instruments. Keep it up!
have you wondered what jinjer sounds with a hint of sum41? in ‚exposed as a liar‘ they show you
For a kind of good view on the vocals check out Scumprophet-Scumfuck. Ben Duerr is an animal.
The phrase you're looking for is Blech!
As a suggestion you should react to Meute they are something else. MEUTE - Hey Hey (Dennis Ferrer Rework) is a good place to start.
DARKWATER- Alive part 1&2😜🙏🏻
I got something for you that I need you to listen to.
Vektor- recharging the void
Ive suggested other songs but this is the one i really want you to listen to. Its going to blow your socks off.
Veil of maya next!
Yo man, Nanowar of Steel release a new song: “In the sky”.
please react to "I will survive" by seventh key

Battle of the maginot sphere is a good one to check out

Sounds like scooby doo to me ruh ruh ruh
omg do people really say that haha *eye roll*
Great job on getting him to Shadow of Intent and Lorna Shore, Tank. Now that's missing another one great symphonic deathcore band, Defamed.
yo Tank, remember me right? you could do any of my requests with Chase, that would be cool.. we still waiting for it regardless :P
