Non native English speaker here, I have had this conversation with mi GF and friends several times, to me the main issue is that people try too much to translate perfectly
The issue with this is that they mentally block themselves by overthinking, just try to say something similar, is about to make the other understand you, not to about passing and English test
Another mistake is not listening native speakers regularly, when you listen to them everyday (when you live abrod for instance) you learn many pre-made phrases that help you a lot making the conversation more fluid withour thinking twice

В начале погружения в изучаемый язык необходимо слушание языка и попытка осознавания что означают встречающиеся звуковые сочетания многократно превышающее попытки его воспроизведения для того, чтобы возникли необходимые нейронные связи для понимания языка иначе воспроизведение будет просто упражнением мышц воспроизведения, а не наработкой навыка говорения

Should be compulsory in every single institution or academy across the globe that specializes in teaching English to have tutors like you. It´s not only about how fluent you are, it´s required to develop an intimate bond with your students that encourages them to talk in English without being afraid of making mistakes and get dissaproval for it, because guess what, even native speakers make a lot of mistakes during daily interactions, for instance, using If I was you, when it should be If I were you cause you´re speculating about something not talking about an even tthat really happened indeed or using You was when it must be You were no matter the context and so many more examples, basically, to sum up, English it´s a fun and entertaining way to enhance your lifestyle and that´s what Caro has always done. Speaking fluently requires huge amount of words in our memory. For example, an average English speaker in the US has at minimum 25 thousand words and professional one has at minimum 40 thousands. So, in order to compete with the native speakers, you need at least the same amount of words, so your brain is able to recall words when you speak. Unfortunately, most of the newcomers only have 5000 words or way less, which cause a huge problem when they are trying to interact with people.

I legit am a native English speaker and just learned that "I'm good" or "I'm doing good" isn't correct. So that's something as well! There are things native speakers may say that aren't grammatically correct, but they feel more natural to them. ❤
Edit: I just thought of another amazing example! There's this guy I work with who knows the basics of English but talks to me to expand his knowledge more. I had just sent a text to a friend about something and thought I'd let him know of this thing a lot of us say; "anyways". It's not correct. If you want to use that word, it needs to be "anyway". But a lot of us say "anyways" because it oddly sounds a lot better. Never stop learning, my friends!

      “I’m good” is grammatically correct.

As a native english speaker 'I am doing good' is a perfectly fine phrase, I use it and I hear others use it everyday. It doesn't sound incorrect to natives. Just because something is grammatically incorrect doesn't mean it's wrong or incorrect. 'I am doing well' is far more formal and I rarely hear it.
    Good video tho (:

As for communication skills I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process in English and other languages.😊

@@dreamandmakeit6221The answer is simple. You have those sentences, expressions and words in IELTS materials. You need to decide yoursef which sentences to learn. Just choose some of them as you cannot learn everything. Below some details what I do::: I try to repeat a sentence until I can say it without hesitation or mistakes. During practice I say it realy slow at the beginning. Later alternating speed either extremely fast or slow. I don't have any set amount of reps. Just drilling until being confident. Sometimes if I have difficulties I repeat something continuously for example for 30 minutes streight. Recently I stopped counting. Just measuring time. Let's say 5 minutes gives you 100 reps. So repeat something 10-15 minutes. I try to choose short sentences 4-5 words. Or just practicing separate single words, pairs of words, 3 words together. Long sentences are very time consuming and difficult to repeat. From experience I noticed that it usually takes 5 days or more to remember something. Recently I stopped making notes just to focus on practicing. I don't use any SRS system like Anki. Only using online pons de dictionary (as I currently learn German) and bookmark some words. It is chaotic learning at the moment. I don't have any plan. Just watching videos repeatedly, reading comments and choosing some sentences, words. So videos show me what I should revise and what I don't remember. I mix practicing very old sentences and completely new ones. No particular strict rule. You can also repeat in your mind. Doesn't have to be aloud if you cannot. Please check similair method: sentence mining. ua-cam.com/video/ktkHjL_PMc4/v-deo.html

For me, it's just a two-part process. Firstly, you should focus on listening a lot and not force yourself to speak too much. However, to develop your speaking skills, you need to transition to actively using the language. Perhaps the ideal approach is to alternate between absorbing and internalizing, and then engaging in active discussions.

Furthermore, I find the scripts entertaining and fun, which is why they stimulate attention and motivation.
Just one detail: sometimes some words of the transcribed text are not clearly seen because the color does not contrast with the background and they cannot be read accordingly. Perhaps you can pay attention to this element of your instructional strategy. Everything else is perfect.

Honestly, I have the opposite problem but with Spanish. I can read and write Spanish fine and speak it fairly well. However, I have trouble listening. The reason being I believe is that listening requires you to interpret sounds very fast. When reading, you can take your time, and words are generally always clear on a page (no accents, etc)

    • @ThomasVWorm
      @ThomasVWorm 8 місяців тому

Listening is the same with speaking: just do it. So listen to UA-cam videos in spanish and don't give a damn when you do not understand. The more often you do it the more you understand.
It is how our brain works: repetition trains it. This is why babies and small children never stop trying. If they would, they will remain being unable to walk, speak etc.
And remember: the hardest language to learn is your mother tongue. You do even need a language to be able to think. As a baby therefore you cannot even think about what you hear. At the beginning there is only noise and a baby trying to give it a meaning though it cannot even reason about meanings because it does not have any words and no idea about the world at all.
The only thing, you can do, is listening and be relaxed when doing it. Don't think to about what you do not understand but let it just pass through. This allows you not to miss, what is following and maybe guessing what you did miss. Being relaxed is very important.
And on UA-cam you can stop and replay parts and use undertitles.
At the beginning it may be frustrating because it is hard work with little outcome. So even here trying to be relaxed about it helps.

Fluent in english, my 2nd language, but applying the concept of this video to my german. I have this issue where I'll perfectly understand german, in both reading and listening comprehension, but fall short when structuring my own sentences. Think your advice is solid, and ubiquitous in the sense

Dear Mam, Thank you for all the hard work! I am afraid to tell you that, your voice is a bit low. I use my laptop to listen without a headset. Could you please increase it in your next video? That would be grateful!

Your German sounds impressively good. I am German so I can only guess how difficult it must be for a non native speaker. Also thanks for the video. Thats exactly what Im struggeling with the most- the speaking part. Because you have to be spontaneous and that when I fail. Also thanks for the advices regarding the learning strategies.
