When I first viewed this concert (on dvd) many years ago I felt that the opening song (Shine On ...) was the most amazing live performance of a song I had ever seen - until they played the next song (High Hopes), and then the one after that, and on and on. Truly the greatest live music concert every filmed and, most likely, ever performed.
You forgot Richard Wright who is the main keyboardist on stage. He was one of the four originals alongside Roger Waters and Syd Barrett (later replaced by David Gilmour).
You were talking about the equipment used on this tour, so here are some numbers: Three stages leapfrogged around North America and Europe, each 180 feet (55 m) long and featuring a 130-foot (40 m) arch resembling the Hollywood Bowl venue. All in all, the tour required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US $ 4 million plus US $ 25 million of running costs just to stage, money from 1994. This tour played to 5.5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average 45,000 audience.
One of their sound engineers friend of mine. He said they had like 52 semi's full of equipment and needed 2 with generators to give them the power they needed. He had an almost telepathic musical connection with Gilmour, and when Rick passed away in 2008 David said of Rick "He was our George Harrison". George was widely acknowledged as the best alround musician in the Beatles, to the extent that when someone asked John Lennon whether Ringo was the best drummer in the world, he replied "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles".
That quote from John is awesome. Since we are breaking bad fans and are reacting to a lot of Badfinger - also inspired by Breaking Bad's Baby Blue we have seen the impact of George Harrison. @@reactioninaction7415 Hey Guys - if you want to see David & Rick's telepathic connection in full flower, try "Echoes" from "David Gilmour Live in Gdansk". One thing about Floyd concerts is, from my understanding, Floyd doesn't just have speakers on stage, they have them all around the venue. In other words a Floyd concert is surround sound. Can you imagine!!
Correct. Even the pre-show sounds. Floyd had a soundscape of a guy coming out of his house, standing on his porch, drinking a cold drink in summer. Walks off the porch, into a shed and fires up a lawn mower going from one side to the stadium to the other. Meanwhile the house lights start going down a bit at a time and the soundscape gets louder. In the distance but coming in fast is a thunderstorm. As the storm gets closer, the lights get dimmer. Then every light in the place gets a flash with a clap of thunder. Total darkness and they start playing. You can hear the clap of thunder fade out at the very beginning of their Delicate Sound of Thunder and PULSE tour live shows.
That was the percussionist jumping….not the drummer. There is the drummer, and then there is the percussionist….He’s a MUCH younger session guy, hired for the tour, like the singers etc.😁
I was fortunate enough to be at that show in May of 1994 when they played at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts. By far the best concert of my lifetime !! Fun fact: Pink Floyd has 3 identical stage set-ups. While they are playing, the other 2 stages are on the move and being set up at upcoming venues. The stages each cost $5 million dollars.
It's great to see a father and son enjoying one of the greatest Rock bands of all time! Good job you guys! Regarding the "Gong" you guys were referring to, they use it in their song High Hopes' from the same 1994 Pulse concert. This album is all Gilmour, Roger Waters left the band in the mid 80s, a few years after The Wall. Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1965, the original 4 members of Pink Floyd were, Syd Barrett, (guitar, lead vocals), Roger Waters, (bass, vocals), Rick Wright, (keyboards, Synth, vocals), Nick Mason, (drummer, percussion). Syd Barrett was the driving force of the band, he was a huge talent in his song writing and musicianship. Unfortunately he had issues with mental health and serious drug problems. So much so that the band had to get another singer, guitarist to stand in when Syd was unable to rehearse or perform live. David Gilmour was that person, he was Syd's closest friend and an accomplished singer and guitarist in his own right. By the end of 1967 Syd issues got so bad that he was unable to perform at all. In fact in those final days they couldn't even communicate with him. By 1968 Syd was completely out of the picture and Gilmour took over his role in the band as lead singer, guitarist and songwriter. The band decided to pay Syd his full share of the proceeds of the band, and they did so until his death in 2006. Waters left the band around 1987, he was quoted as saying,... "Pink Floyd is a spent entity", he assumed, quite arrogantly I think, that because he was leaving the band, that the band was done! Well Gilmour and the two others carried on as Pink Floyd quite successfully. Waters didn't like that so he sued them,... but he lost the suit. Gilmour has always been the lead singer, and in most of Pink Floyd songs Gilmour is singing, even when Waters was there. As far as his guitar abilities are concerned, he is not technically a guitar Virtuoso, I'm talking about a musical theory education. He is a feel player, he speaks through his guitar. He's probably the greatest "Feel" guitarist ever. I've been playing guitar for over 50 years myself, I played in Rock bands for a number of years in the 70s, and I'm well familiar with guitarist of that era, and today. And David Gilmour is a special guitarist imo, he's not a shredder like many out there, his style is more of a groove style. His phrasing and inventiveness, with his rise and fall soloing, has a flow and purposefulness to it. He says more with a single note, with a pause, riff or trill or a bend,... than most guitarists say playing a Bajillion notes a second! Speaking of Bends, he is the King of the guitar Bend. Bending a string up 1 and 1/2, or 2 full steps, when done correctly, gives a certain type feel, and emotion in the playing. Gilmour does these bends frequently, and it is not that hard to do, but he takes it a bit further. He'll do 2 and 1/2 step bends, and 3 full step bends,... which is incredible! I play with a similar style as David, (he's been a huge influence on me) and I've been playing a long time too, so I can easily do bends at 1 and a 1/2, and 2 step,... but 2 and a 1/2 step bends are a bit difficult for me, and 3 step bends are out of the question! Haha!
Saw this tour in Foxboro Ma. 1994. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Have also seen Roger Waters. Both are mind blowing. Where are the bands like this, The Doors, Zeppelin or Sabbath nowadays? I feel so lucky to have been a teenager in the late 70’s/early 80’s. ✌️
I was at night 2 of a 4 night stop in Foxboro MA Gillette stadium in'94. Had great seats, still compare all concerts even today to that show and nothing comes close and as amazing as the videos are it doesn't do the show justice to see it live. That stage literally had people with their mouths open back then, nothing was ever done prior to this!
YAY! You finally chose one of my favorite requests. Roger Waters is long gone from the band, so David is now the lead singer. Also, for a fact they have one drummer (Nick Mason) and a PERCUSSIONIST.
@@nashkita77 Are you too young to remember Roger Waters??? He sang several songs on THE WALL. In the early years (Live @ Pompeii) they both sang on the same songs.
FYI . . . All in all, the tour required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US$4 million plus US$25 million of running costs just to stage. This tour played to 5.5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average 45,000 audience. At the end of the year, the Division Bell Tour was announced as the biggest tour ever, with worldwide gross of over £150 million (about US$250 million). In the U.S. alone, it grossed US$103.5 million from 59 concerts. Also, 1 Drummer and 1 Percussionist. There is a difference.
Gilmour bends at least two octaves during these songs. In every song during the Pulse concert the lights are Highly synchronized with the music. It's how they amplify and magnify the emotions in the songs. They want the concert to be a visual and musical experience. David Gilmour was the lead singer after Waters left the band. Gilmour is the Greatest guitar player in music history. You guys should also react to the Gilmour Live in Pompeii concert. The greatest guitarist in music history performing at the age of 70. Performing for 2 hours as powerfully as he did for the Pulse concert. He and his band perform Gilmour's solo work, but many of the Pink Floyd hits including Sorrow. In particular watch his performance of the song 5am. A complete Instrumental from The Doctor himself. You guys should react to Learning to Fly as well
Eric Clapton was asked in an interview what it was like being the world's greatest guitarist. He said, I'm not sure, you'll have to ask David Gilmour about that.
I was there. It changed my life, and everyone else inside Earls Court,London in 1994. Watch the whole concert. The show closer blew everybody out of their socks.
How lucky you were to be there; I'm continually stunned at and I'm just seeing a video! I'm going to sit down one of these days and watch the whole concert, but in the meantime, which song was the closer if you don't mind? I'd love to see that!.
I was there and it was off the wall insanely good. The thing that people miss by listening via media etc, is that they blasted this out through their quadraphonic sound system powerful enough for an Olympic sized stadium. Unbelievable! Best concert ever without a doubt. There are so many brilliant songs that Floyd did that I could list. You are so going to enjoy this particular rabbit hole. You are only touching the surface.
Gilmour uses special string sets in which the G and B strings are lighter gauge than typical sets to help make those bends easier and more fluid. You can actually buy strings to Dave’s specifications on Amazon.
You MUST check out "Pink Floyd-Reunion/Live 8 (2005). They managed to put aside their differences to perform together with Roger Waters one last time for a charity concert in London. After all those years of not playing together, and after only a few hours rehearsing, they are absolutely incredible. There's still bad blood, but they are the consummate professionals on stage.
Guys, Pink Floyd Pulse tour included a couple of shows at México City (April 9-10th 1994). Due to the fact that it would only be two shows, all tickets were sold out very soon (you don"t have Pink Floyd every year in this country) . My older brother got married the 9th, and I had the chance to get tickets for just that day. I attended the church ceremony, and went for a little while to the reception party, but I escaped to the concert. While I was heading for the venue, I felt kinda guilty, cause my brother was the first one in the family to get married, and well...he's my bro, you know? When the concert started and was going on, all guilty feelings dissappeared just like that. Years had passed by, and still never regreted it. Best concert of all my life, for sure !!!
This song just tears you to pieces. Dave Gilmour is a guitar GOD! He sings a lot of their big songs - Time, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here and Money just to name a few. He interacted with Roger Waters in many other songs. And yes this song is from the album "Momentary Lapse of Reason." Dave Gilmour wrote most of theses songs including "Sorrow" with the help of the other important Pink Floyd members, Richard Wright (RIP) and Nick Mason. They truly are a very special band!
Hard to believe I was actually at this concert. Yankee stadium, Bronx New York, right field. Worst seats, but didn't matter. Love Gilmour's guitar work, his pacing, use of the tremolo, use of feedback, conservation of notes. The songs are emtionally overwhelming.
I loved your comment it is the best concert EVER. I totally agree. Pink Floyd have always been renowned for their road shows BUT PULSE has got to be their best work ever and will never be beaten by any group including Pink Floyd as Richard Wright has died poor man. so the band can never be put back together. I bought this on VHS video when it first came out in 94 and then got the DVD and played it so loud my wife ornaments were falling off the fireplace. Still listen to it till this day. I love it thanks for your reaction to this and if you get to play 10% as good as Dave you are great on the guitar.
If it hasn't been suggested yet, try listening to "On The Turning Away" from the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" live album. Or the one live from Nassau Coliseum in NY. You'd be blown away. Dave's guitar solo in that one is a serious contender for best guitar solo ever (for me, even better than his work in "Comfortably Numb")! The pulsing bass of Guy Pratt, the heavenly backing vocals (I could watch Rachel Fury move and sing like that all day long XD), the tempered and crisp drum work of Nick and of course the atmospheric keyboard of Rick setting the tone: PERFECTION!
You guys are obviously loving the "Pulse" concert, who wouldn't? The layout/song list for the entire show is brilliant from start to end...First half of the concert was selected songs from various albums but mostly from Dave Gilmore's Division Bell album. Sorrow, High Hopes etc. They open with Shine On You Crazy Diamond...review that one!! Then they play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album..plus encores..Comfortably Numb, Run & the third one you couldn't recall... Wish You Were Here!
The strings David is playing are by GHS. They make a David Gilmour signature series set for the public. They are the same gauge as David is using. The blue series is for his Strat, and the red are gauged for his Les Paul. The guitar pick he uses is a Herco Flex 75. I highly you try this gear out.
Roger Waters was the bass player……in addition of course to co-writer and vocalist with Gilmore. Guy Pratt, , British session bass player extraordinaire, is playing bass for this tour…..and with much of Gilmore’s solo career. Did you notice the big grins that Pratt and Gilmore exchanged toward the end of the song? I LOVE it when the musicians are so obviously giddy……They are in it for the music and the live performance ………getting paid for doing what you adore is the icing on the cake. You see those same grins between Page and Plant, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson…….no doubt many others. The sheer love of music, having the chops, and being at the top of your game.
I think to clarify, Waters is in no way involved with this tour or this song or the album the tour is named after 'The Division Bell' which became 'Pulse' on vinyl CD and DVD.
David Gilmour is the lead guitar & singer. Rick Wright is the keyboard player and original member of the band. Nick Mason is the seated drummer and the only other original member.
There are two drum kits. The guy jumping is reaching for symbols. Nick Mason original member has the center floor kit. Gilmore's tone is about using freq and harmonics with an incredible sound set up to make his guitar sound HUGE. Its his ability to make it sound musical along with choice chops along the way.

The funniest part is that Pulse film is on the smallest audience as it was done on a closed arena, just 14,000 people... the stadiums shows for the rest of the tour averaged 45,000... while the last show, in Venice, gathered 300,000 ! I saw this in Toronto on July 5, 6 and 7... with 33,000 people... been at every concert of David and Roger, ever since, and nothing compares with it. Specially considering the year it took place. Technology has improved dramatically, so Roger's The Wall was just as impressive, but the sound was never matched, ever since. It was the first occasions where the Turbosound Flashlight system was used on a full-scale stadium production, on this occasion delivering no less than 232,000 Watts of power.
Liking the vid for playing something other than the notorious top 5 PF songs. Been getting these reactions for a couple weeks now. All of them the same song over and over. Saw something different and here I am...
Well done to you guys who have full screen the live. This is the best live in history. Pink Floyd send more people to the space from the NASA. You must see also the Roger waters live in Mexico. Just epic. When Gilmore play his guitar no need lyrics.

Fun fact: Pink Floyd has 3 identical stage set-ups. While they are playing, the other 2 stages are on the move and being set up at upcoming venues. The stages each cost $5 million dollars.
🎸💯 David Gilmour SHREDS that Stratocaster‼I love Pink Floyd‼🔥
Haha!
There's a huge drums and percussions set.
It was great being there! Seen them several times thru the years but this Pulse tour was unsurpassed. You should check out Keep talking from Pulse.
There's nothing comparable to Pulse. It's just... P U L S E
100% agree...nothing....
Check out ON THE TURNING AWAY from their Delicate Sound of Thunder concert. Another great jam session at the end....
I was at Foxboro too, unfortunately I can't remember much but thanks to YT I see it again!
You should also see the "Keep talking" from this concert!
Oh boy are you ready for this??!!! You have to follow this up with One of These Days....same concert
Don´t forget Richard !!
David has always been lead vocalist
@@nashkita77 Are you too young to remember Roger Waters??? He sang several songs on THE WALL. In the early years (Live @ Pompeii) they both sang on the same songs.
@@GoldwingGary1 Roger was more of a backup vocalist and did a few leads.
@@GoldwingGary1 I went to a Roger Waters concert in 2001
Jeans, t-shirt and talent. Love it!
FYI . .
Same concert, great gig in the sky! You have to watch that one!
David Gilmore is just incredible with his guitar. The Pulse concert are in it`s own leuge. The intro in "Sorrow" reminds me of Bladerunner by the way.
@@gibsongirl2100 the encore was a fantastic rendition of Run Like Hell.
We were there that night! I ended up going four times 😊❤
The most amazing riffs ever!!
Greatest concert ever. The last Waltz by the band is the second greatest concert ever
That percussionist is out of this world
U just witnessed the masters at work with their phenomenal artistry
Beautiful
Gilmour uses special string sets in which the G and B strings are lighter gauge than typical sets to help make those bends easier and more fluid.
You can actually buy strings to Dave’s specifications on Amazon.
On The Turning Away is amazing.
Just Awesome .
You should have seen them in 73. I did. Awesome.... Makes ya wanna throw your guitar in the bay. Capt.Bob, SV (Sailing Vessel) 27th Chance, Tampa Fl.
He’s the master folks will never be another Pink Floyd
One. Of. The. Best. Shows. Going. The. Best. 👍👍👍
Momentary lapse of reason is the album. Listen to one of these days from the same concert for the gong
There is even a name for the way Gilmour bends the strings on his guitar, it's called the Gilmour bend. It's good to see that you picked up on that.
Nice reaction guys ! You should check "Keep Talking" form the same show (pulse) as well
Luv his guitar he has the best sounding one that just blends so real
Richard Wright is on the keyboard try listening to the last track on pulse called run like hell Floyd are epic
Supremacy of the music. Ciao da Roma
Gilmour is a great target to aim for when learning to play guitar.
The strings David is playing are by GHS. They make a David Gilmour signature series set for the public. They are the same gauge as David is using. The blue series is for his Strat, and the red are gauged for his Les Paul. The guitar pick he uses is a Herco Flex 75. I highly you try this gear out.
They use the gong on the song ''High Hopes'' Pulse
The greatest concert by the greatest band in the world and no Roger Waters needed.
Agree they r top of their field with this concert. I miss m even tho we have their awesome music I listen to them every day.
Yea you can see their joy even playing Sorrow!
GILMOUR.
@@reactioninaction7415 Those 2 or 3 seconds which begin at 12:07 are amazing.
David Gilmour is the lead guitar & singer. Rick Wright is the keyboard player and original member of the band. Nick Mason is the seated drummer and the only other original member.
Pink Floyd concert sunglasses=10/10!
That drummer is a percussionist NOT just a drummer
Amen on David's abilities
There are two drum kits. The guy jumping is reaching for symbols. Nick Mason original member has the center floor kit. Gilmore's tone is about using freq and harmonics with an incredible sound set up to make his guitar sound HUGE. Its his ability to make it sound musical along with choice chops along the way.
You gotta do comfortably numb, and high hopes from same concert
they did comfortably numb Pulse concert
@@mizymeezygaming6309 yeah I wrote it before I heard them say they heard it. But High Hopes is a great song for them to watch

The guy standing is a percussionist, he plays everything the drummer normally don't. There is a drummer too
The funniest part is that Pulse film is on the smallest audience as it was done on a closed arena, just 14,000 people... the stadiums shows for the rest of the tour averaged 45,000... while the last show, in Venice, gathered 300,000 !
The Sixth and Seventies were the best area for music groups. All types of music.
THAT was fun.
A full bend is what you get if you pick a string and move it up two frets. He is the Sratocaster master.
Pink Floyd is the top of the top's
Great version of this tune. Several pulse versions floating. Some are edited differently.
Keyboard guy is Richard Wright. The Keyboard Master.
