9.000RPM FORD ESCORT Mk2 || 2.0L V6 BTCC Engine Swap FLAT-OUT

- Reto Steiner drives one of the most unique and fastest Ford Escort Mk2 units in European Hillclimb Racing, powered by the 2.0L V6 unit that was used on the Ford Mondeo Touring Cars of the late 90´s. With around 310Hp/9.000Rpm powering the Rear Wheels thorugh a 6-speed Sequential Gearbox, and weighing under 900Kg, it benefits also from the fact that Mr. Steiner is no slouch behind the wheel. In fact, he seems to squeeze every bit of performance for the RWD Classic Ford in every event pretty much now for over a decade and as you can see here at:

When fear is laughable and skill shines through! Car and driver in perfect harmony 🙏🏻👏👏👏
Yeah, over 10 years developing and driving this machine every season ;)
That's easily the hardest , flattest cornering Escort I've ever seen. I also get the feeling Mr Steiner drives to the shops like this.😂
That might be the best mk2 escort engine swap and setup I've ever seen!
Ranks high but we have a couple on our Channel that challenges it..
Sounds wonderful! Looks beautiful. Mr Steiner can’t half drive it too
After over a decade Mr Steiner and this Escort are pretty familiar ;)
Scott Steiner??
@@seabassmcgee3367 no Reto Steiner
What a piece of art absolute weapon what a proud owner
He’s driving like an absolute lunatic!
Funny thing, we never saw Mr. Steiner driving any calmer than this...

Can´t disagree there...
Race engineer-"How hard can you push it?"
Driver- "yes"
All the Way!
Those engines always sounded stunning.
Those Mondeo´s sounded awesome for sure..
Almost sounds like a screaming 4 pot when its coming towards you and then when it passes screaming v6 😅. I love it
That driver is a badass! That car looks like it's floating above the ground, around and going into some of those turns!
There´s a lvel of constant slip angle that is immensely entertaining..
No click baiting here with the title frfr!!! FLAT OUT is definitely how I would describe Retos driving!!!😁😁
We strive to stay true to the content we publish ;)
@@HillClimbMonsters As a subscribed member for the last 5-6 years I can agree and I've had so many favorites is insane!!!The Big Red Camero was only one of the best cars in history I learned about from this channel so THANK YOU!!!!!

Thats a monster machine!! Bucket list car if i ever come into serious money 🤘👍
Its funny that once upon a time i paid $150 for 6 of these.
Built one good car and 2 thrash cars out of them.
Paid another 150 for a 2ltr sport motor and 5 speed sierra box, car used to fly😂
Der Mann kann Autofahren…!!! Hut ab!!!
Perfect combination of sound, looks and driving! 🔥🔥🔥
Very high up there for sure...
Love to find one of these in stock condition. The car has so much potential.
Beautiful machine. ✌🏻🇺🇸
Beautiful inside and out!. Now that's a race car!
Such clean driving
The sound when it's coming at ya. You can hear those throttle bodies like little megaphones.
Super fast Escort
Came here for the car, which was great but the driving was even more impressive
Instal a cam on the front bumper and one on the helmet.

Gottdamm that's a sexy little car. She's baaaad

😛😜😝👍👍👍❤
V6s with ITB sound amazing, take it this is the Jag2.0 v6 from the s-type from the AJ range of engines
Its based on the 2.5 duratec ford engine but destroked (I think) to 2.0 for btcc rules.
@@deanoscott Yep, in basic terms that was it.
I think it’s the K8-ZE Mazda 2.0 v6 used by the Mazda 6 in the BTCC and then later fitted to the Mk1/2 Mondeo for the 1997 and 1998 seasons. I’m not 100% accurate but I do know it was a Mazda engine
👍👍👍🍥🍙🍥🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
OMG!! That car is being driven with disdain...
We never saw Mr. Steiner driving it any slower...
That sounds fantastic.. and driven 10/10ths plus a bit! 👌🏾So is the engine a reduced stroke version of the Mondeo motor which IIRC was a 2.2L? Hence the 9000rpm.
The BTCC Mondeo engine was a 2 liter just like any other super touring car engine and it had a revlimit of 8500 rpm.
It was based on the Mazda KL V6 engine found in the Mk2 Ford Probe and Mazda MX6, and destroked to 2 liters to comply with the super touring car rules.
@@fontheking5 yes.. exactly.. I actually owned a Mazda MX6.. quite a disappointing car!
Genau das ist der geile Scheiß... BTCC Motor? Digga Alla... Genau was man hören will....
Gibt es einen Wagen der einen DTM Motor drin hat? Ich meine die DTM mit V8....
2.0L or 2.5L? Duratec 25 is a 2,5?

@@truevip100 Hmm ok. Thanks for the info! 👍🏼
@@Carpf4n4tic if you like the sound of this, you’ll love the sound of the 1995-1999 BTCC cars 🙂
2.5 liter Mazda KL v6 engine destroked to 2 liters, it was used in the Ford Probe road car
I don't know if it's a typo but the Ford/Mazda 2.5 duratec is not a 2.0 liter and this particular one is not n/a as one can see a front mount charge cooler in the air dam... Unless it's a oil cooler but that's a giant oil cooler. From my time as a Ford tech I do know that one could take the crank and cylinder heads off the 3.0 duratec and put them in the 2.5 to make a 3.2 stroker.
It is both NA and 2.0. Destroked DuraTec (Mazda KL) engine much like the Mondeo BTCC unit was when it competed and where this engine unit stems from. Quite easy to find all this info too, if one wants to.
2 liters were the maximum allowed size for super touring car engines, which this is.
It was used in the 90:s Ford Mondeo Super touring cars in BTCC, the snarling sounds tells me it`s either a 97 or 98 Mondeo BTCC engine.
The rules said that you could use any 2 liter naturally aspirated engine you wanted from your parent company, and Ford / Cosworth decided to use the 2.5 liter Mazda MX6 / Ford Probe ( Mazda KL V6 engine ) as a base for their BTCC engine, since it was slightly smaller and more lightweight than the Duratec, it was destroked to 2 liters to suit the rules in super touring and tuned to around 300 hp, the revlimit was 8500 rpm.
Also the Ford Duratec and the Mazda KL are very different engines, they are not from the same engine family, they have very similar specs, but are very different actually.

@@fontheking5 excellent bit of knowledge. Thank you . The little things that the race programs did I will always find cool. I did not know this so again , thank you ✌️🤙
@@HillClimbMonsters I will do some looking. I like mean, small displacement engines. I also enjoy your content. Thank you HCM ✌️🤩
Hey this build is not bad at all, but i like that other red ford with the bmw s38 swap
Different strokes...
You know the car, correct?
@@sidewayzmike of course, you're talking about Nikos Papadopoulos' Mk2 😉
Duratec 25 with 2.0L? That's new to me.
They did not use a Duratec in the BTCC mondeos, or any super touring mondeo for that matter.
it was based on the 2.5 liter Mazda KL V6 engine from the Mazda MX6 / Ford Probe, and destroked to 2 liters to suit the super touring car rules.
It`s naturally aspirated to suit the super touring rules the BTCC had in the 1990:s :)
@fontheking5 In the video, it clearly states it's a Duratec 25.
Now imagine how boring a Tesla would be or sound on this same run 😂
310Hp only?
Thats a joke.
