This is based on true events. I worked during the time public transport prices in London went through the roof. It lasted only a few months before sense prevailed but it made many of us workers find alternative ways of getting to work in the 1980’s.
Loved this show ever since I was a kid!! Watched it here in the States on our local Chicago PBS station!! All the cast& crew were simply BRILLIANT!! They are missed!! May they Rest In Peace!!🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍
Mrs slocombe stayed in the store in the apartment episode and the entire staff had to in the camping ep too so Mr rumbold can stuff his little message about not staying overnight
@@Lindzeeann2uuu Are you free? Good eye, Sis. AYBS first aired in 1973...Seahawks "first aired" in 1976...I guess that could be an early Hawks jersey.(I'm actually a woman...just love our team and Gonzaga basketball. And Aaron Rodgers...what a cutie!) Gotta go! Seahawks are getting ready to kick some LA Rams heinie. Merry Christmas!
After years of making her attire more conservative, this episode reminded everyone that Wendy's best assets were definitely her legs. She was 42 in this episode and those stems still slayed.
Mr Grainger was replaced by a lot of characters, as each one choose to leave the show after a short time. Sadly Arthur Brough who played Mr Grainger died in 1978, and so initially they replaced him with James Hayter. James lasted one series, as he was offered a huge commercial deal to do the voice over for Mr Kipling. Then came Alfie Bass who lasted one series, as he felt the character was too brash for the show. Then came Milo Sperber, who regretted joining the show after he recorded the first episode, as he felt was just out of place, and so he left mid series. Benny Lee took over for the remainder of that series, and then they never recast, and just handed the head of the department to Mr Humphries. Mr Spooner was brought in after Trevor Bannister chose to quit after the 1979 Christmas special, as he felt the show was becoming stale, and he was offered a large financial deal to do a west end play. Mike Berry, a singer was brought in. Sadly he found out they simply took lines already written for Trevor, and simply scratched Trevor's name out, so they never really ever wrote for Mike's style, they simply handed him Trevor's style of script.
Mr Harmon just explained to Rumbold that Mr Spooner could not afford the fare , and had to stay over , so why have a go at Mr Spooner , just because he is upper management level Rumbold does not mean he has to be so lack of compassion
0:54 Something falls off of the shelf, but instead of the director yelling, "Cut!" the actress playing the shop girl just picks it up and puts it in place, as would happen in real life. The show must go on!

I recall hearing that a good amount of the episodes were based on the social and economic happenings, at the time.
I was just thinking: was this right at the time the subsidies were struck down?
Good ol "trickle down" and austerity ala Maggie T
We all love Mr. Humphries. Tightened nuts and all...🤣❤

Too funny!! I laugh so hard no matter how many times I watch this show!! 🤣😂🤣
Yes I used to live on the West coast of the U.S.A. so the Jersey is Seattle Seahawks.I am curious what Spooners' "ablutions "for morning were. 😄
It means to have a wash
Is that a Seattle Seahawks jersey?
Right, you are! 👍
They dont make them like this any more
Is that a Seattle Seahawks jersey that Mr. Humphries is wearing?
The colors are the same,, but just rearranged different
Oh yeah, Baby! Go Hawks! Love from the 12!
It’s definitely their jersey, it would have been one of the earliest versions. The series began before the Seahawks were even a team.

Does anyone know where the rest of this episode can be seen?
Daily Motion
Mr Spooner the only 1 left alive from this show
I always thought Spooner was one of the weaker characters, along with that bozo they picked to replace Mr. Granger.

I wonder how the show would have been like if Trevor Bannister (Mr Lucas) stayed on until the end?
Mr Harmon just explained to Rumbold that Mr Spooner could not afford the fare , and had to stay over , so why have a go at Mr Spooner , just because he is upper management level Rumbold does not mean he has to be so lack of compassion
Well, he is upper management. Not having compassion is how they get there to begin with.
ME THINKS, THEIR ALL LOONEY. 🤗🤩😊❤❤❤❤❤
Because they ARE all looney!
There are a lot of jobs like this where you are so poorly paid that there is nothing left in your budget.
😂🎉❤
This programme isn't on BritBox
Beautiful WHITE comedy
