For those curious, the reason plague doctors wore those beak masks was because they believed the plague to be caused by miasma (essentially just “bad air”). They would fill the beak with aromatic herbs that were meant to purify the air the doctor breathed, thus preventing contagion.

She was making humor of it, I doubt she was really feeling insecure over it but instead promoting staying on top of herself. For a lot of people, gaining weight is a slippery slope..you let yourself gain a few pounds and before you know it you are struggling to get back to your top healthy self/previous size and it is much harder to lose 30+ pounds than it is to keep losing that 5 pounds every time to gain it.

I like to use it on tough meats to make them super juicy and tender. You just have to have some common sense about when to add your vegetables and seasonings so you don’t turn them into a flavorless mush.
