May as well bring the question back, what’s your favorite version of this track? Has it changed since I last asked? :P Behind-the-scenes Audacity project waveform: ua-cam.com/video/95bG4TkFN2k/v-deo.html Here’s the SoundCloud link for this mix: soundcloud.app.goo.gl/EhqiuA6u1hPFBVqc6 Thumbnail is a Halo 4 concept by Tim Tao: tim-tao.artstation.com/projects/4bPvQW
The hard metallic sounds and bass are the humans with their utilitarian looking equipment and drive to meet short term objectives. The airy voices are the ancient and sophisticated grandeur of the forerunners, and the possibilities it brings. I always saw this track as compelling me forward into something big and grand, because i had a mission.
I like how you can tell the artist was going for a halo 3 elite design for the forefront, but went with more halo wars 1 style for those in the background. In fact it almost looks copied from memory off the halo wars trailer (No shade, just looks so familiar! I like it after all)
@@prisms9724 I’m no concept artist (so take with grain of salt), but from what I’ve seen, it looks like sometimes they use characters/models from previous concept art to fill in the image. My guess for this one is that they were focused on designing the environment, then just added in the HW elites to the background. In fact, if you look at the artstation link (in description/pinned), you can see the alternate version of the art uses the same elite models.
"A Walk in the Woods" and its variations has been my favorite track since the day I was introduced into Halo for the first time. It just has such a unique vibe that differenciates it not only from the rest of the tracks, but also from other similar games' soundtracks. Every time I listen any one of the variations I can't help but get chills.
You have an incredible understanding of music. It's not only the sound of the song (which is beautiful in itself,) but how you order these melodies that makes your mixes beautiful and memorable. You have a gift my friend.
For the longest time I'd been listening to a simple hour long loop of Zealous Champion to get my fix of raw, unfiltered Halo drum goodness, thinking "how the hell has no one made a mix of all the walks yet??" This is more than just a medley mix, this is an absolute work of art right here, every single transition gave me chills. Hell, I'd literally pay for a really long extension of this. You could call it "The Long Walk" or something
you kept your word, thanks man. I immediately rushed to my room to grab my headphones when I saw this in my notifications. this is awesome dude, so worth the wait
Man this art work is so badass and fits this theme do damn well. Well played bungie well played for creating such a beautiful game back when ppl actually cared and put their heart into creating something so joyful and beautiful. Rip to all Spartans who are MIA. Never die keep on fighting.
I don't know how you did it, Josh...but you took my favorite video you ever made and improved upon it. "A Walk in the Woods", in my opinion, is one of the greatest musical pieces that Martin O'Donnell ever composed. What started out as a catchy little backing track in Assault on the Control Room (Halo CE) turned out to be one of the most recognizable and loved motifs of the entire soundscape, seeing resurrections in both Halo 2 (Heretic Hero/Zealous Champion) and Halo 3 (Another Walk). There's also the recent inclusion of it in Halo Infinite. I don't know about you but I was present when the Live-stream that previewed the track was shown and I squealed with joy when that familiar melody started to play, albeit remixed, but very much revived through the genius of Corelitz. Along with the contributions by Gareth Coker and Curtis Schweitzer, two VERY good composers in their own rights, the soundscape for Halo Infinite is looking like it's going to be something to remember. A true call back, as well as a progression... You've also outdone your previous iteration of this mix here, Josh...the percussion of "Another Walk" really works well with "Through the Trees". I really REALLY like this.
Thanks man! :D 100% agreed on the thoughts about the theme! It’s funny you said that about Through the Trees because a very similar thing happened to me: I was driving to get lunch the day they released it, and I decided to play it in the car. The moment that the melody sounded, I audibly yelled “YES!” as I was driving, haha. :P
What if I told you that the melody and genius behind "A Walk in the Woods" was the brainchild of Michael Salvatori? Marty only helped with the production of this specific score. It's my favorite in the series.
As iconic as Heretic Hero is, I gotta give my vote to Another Walk from Halo 3. The chanting and the percussion is just too good. I also think the feel of the song fits more with the given environment from the game
Same. I think it's because I played halo 3 with hype of waiting for it to be released at the time. The fact that it's played in the 1st level compared to it being played at the last level in halo 2 makes it feel like you're finishing the fight
You deserve an award for Innovation.. Others: "You can't out perform the original composers. That's heresy! Josh: "Who has taught you these lies!?" I so much loved how you kept the halo 3 another walk's drum beat as an anchor to connect all the other soundtracks to the end!!..please do more like this!!
Like you I find the many “A Walk In The Woods” iterations in each game to be my favorite tracks (especially Halo 3’s Another Walk) right above Under Cover of Night, there’s just something so Halo about it, so when I saw this in my feed I had to listen and my god it’s beautiful I love everything about it keep up the amazing work my man!!
This song is just like back in the day. We all know reality shifts or become faded/ distorted. Possibly due to mind degradation. This version brings us back to how it originally sounded imo.
I don't usually comment, but damn it I had to. Randomly stumbled onto this gem of a video and I've binged to every one of your mixes so far. They are a treat for Halo fans. Please keep them coming, mixing them with Infinite's promising soundtracks. Also Subbed.
Yes mate! I had your last version on a playlist and poof it disappeared, was actually sad as this is by far the best medley out there. Great job and glad you're back.
@@josh11735 I think I was referring to an alternate older version from two years ago. The original version I didn't like too much because the cow bell was a bit too prominent for my taste. This version now though seems closer to the older version...there is a chance that the older version I'm referring to was done by another person though lol.
Ahh, feels so good to listen to this. The music of Halo is such a crucial part of it's identity. I've listened to Halo 4/5 OST recently and even though I can't say it's bad, it's just pretty generic. It sounds just like any other epic blockbuster soundtrack. At the same time there's no way you hear this and doesn't recognize it's Halo. I really hope they'll do it right with Infinite. Great job you did here!
My favorite version of this track is the one from Halo 3. Whenever it plays on Sierra 117 I always take WAY too long to get past that area just so I can listen to it.
Whenever I see arbiter and a jungle I immediately think of the one scene from halo wars after you fight the scarab and the arbiter (not thel ‘vadam) attacks forge. Also I just have to put this out there again but this *really* reminds me of Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
The percussion and that one weird instrument in the Halo 3 version are perfect. Halo 3 has the best on in my opinion, but Infinites vocals backed by all that is incredible.

Hard pick between CEs version and Halo2s version but I'll have to go with Heretic Hero from original Halo2
NGL, the CE Anniversary rendition might be my favourite. It’s probably the least appreciated of them all and it’s my guilty pleasure. 😁
The H2 version (I think it's called "Heretic, Hero") is my favorit by far :)
Please, Pounding the Pavement of HALO 3 ODST...🥰😇👍🏻👍🏻
I guess this is my new favorite one

No, thank YOU (for watching)! ;)
I've been replaying the Halo series in co-op with some friends lately, after many long years. Each track is just as much of a banger as I remember.

“Genius” would have been composing his own songs on the same level rather than riffing on one two decades old
