She makes a point she did help create the en vogue image
and if it’s using the name …she should be included …she was a vital part of creating what we know of as “En Vogue” ….as she said …if you wanna do something else ….do it under another name.

@@djst9792 to the best of my understanding, she left the LLC that manages the rights and royalties years ago. It’s strange that she and Max talked about bad contracts, but they’ve not exactly made the soundest business decisions in their own careers since then. And the way Dawn always goes to the press for every grouse… breaks my heart, because I never wanted the group to break up in the first place and all the public bickering makes any reunions harder and harder to come by. I think they all have very different ways of doing things and ideas about how to keep the brand alive and profitable. I’m not sure that’ll ever change, sadly. The current trio seem solid. I respect them for that.

I'm still distraught when I saw the world premiere of their video "Whatever" in 1997 and there was just 3 of them...no Dawn Robinson. This was right after the success of their biggest hit "Don't Let Go (Love)" Things haven't been the same for En Vogue since then....
Dawn said herself she gave up the rights to the name En Vogue. Therefore, she has no say in how their image is continued and used, making this interview null, void and pointless.

Humble One Max and Dawn both decided to book shows under the name “EnVogue”, while Terry, Cindy, and Rhona we’re booking shows, Dawn and Max made the CHOICE to leave, ultimately they all had to go to court, Terry and Cindy “won” and can continue to legally use the name, Max and Dawn can NOT however they can legally sing EVs music since they recorded those songs

I always thought that Dawn should have never left the group. As BIG as En Vogue were back in the 90’s, they still didn’t get their “just do” like Destiny Child would eventually get. What I’m trying to say is that she leaving and later Maxine, only hurt themselves individually. Fortunately Rhona joined Terry and Cindy, and they really seem to click plus make great music 🎶. Well, Maxine was not an alto. She just mostly sung the alto parts and line. Maxine was training to be a classical /opera lyric soprano. Watch and listen to them sing "Part Of Me" on UA-cam.com. Her vocal fach is known as lyric mezzo soprano. That's because her vocal placement is more suitable and adaptable to the lower registers.

What I fell in love with about En Vogue back in 1990 was how they blended vocally and how they all sang lead masterfully. Back in the 90’s, everybody had to sing and bring it. En Vogue was so special then and now in fact🌹.
Oh, I totally agree with you wholeheartedly. They are the reasons I became a vocal teacher and educating myself on the mysteries and the magnificence of the voice! But, you're right. I do miss true vocal singing/talent and excellence that the 80's and the 90's inherited.

Dawn left because of the bogus contract. They were broke as hell and 2 member had relationships with millionaires while the other two struggled. Dawn tried to speak up about the lack of money they were getting but it fell on deaf ears.

You get offered a contract and hope your attorney is on the up and up and knows how to negotiate. Not their fault. They were babies when they signed.
En Vogue is Cindy, Terry and Rhona now. They have kept the train going and they are putting in the work now. Dawn has not been a part of En Vogue since the 90s other than a small reunion. She seems difficult to work with and not a team player.

Didn’t she just confirm that she gave up her rights to the name of the group at the end of the 90s...that’s 20 years ago. You can’t ask for revenue for something as ephemeral as image or “legacy” and you certainly can’t sue the current iteration of the group for something you voluntarily surrendered.
She didn’t give up her rights to the name, she and Max daughter in court, the judge was just more impressed with Cindy and Terry’s BS.

Now in 2018- I’ve heard them speak well of each other, so I’m just waiting on them all{(the originals) along with the other young lady} to come back together bigger & greater than before- like a Female version of New Edition & really get paid while doing what they all love. To God Be The Glory- Humility.

I think that the two original members who are now still part of the En Vogue group, probably chose the path of least resistance because they were fearful of the consequences and didn't think they'd make it without their record company and management's approval.
The other two (Maxine & Dawn) are much more fearless and outspoken and their drive to fight unfairness must've been bigger than that of Terry & Cindy.
It is a shame, it's too bad that they didn't stick together, but then again I'm sure they all had their reasons for going their separate ways.
In any case, I wish them all well.
This situation was back in 2014-2015. It is another nasty chapter of the EV story, and thankfully it is over. I love all of the ladies, and constructive criticism is not shade. I must say that the root of the problem is that new line-ups and solo careers have destroyed En Vogue's power. En Vogue is at its best with the 4 original members. Another Viewer said, "they still didn’t get their “just do” like Destiny Child would eventually get." I agree 100%. EV has had to settle for being "One of the best 90s Girl Groups" and being "One of the Inspirations for Destiny's Child". When we know that they could have had the same success as DC. The awful truth is that none of the originals have surpassed EV's success in the 90s. After "Don't Let Go" EV started to slowly decline unfortunately. We thought Dawn was going to blow up for a hot second with Lucy Pearl but then that died just as quick as it started. Sadly all of her projects after that seemed to flop. The same happened for Max after she left (The Duo with Dawn, The song "Didn't I, and the Remake of "Don't Let Go"). I believe that Cindy & Terry know that EV is best when the originals are together but since they have irreconcilable differences, they had to settle for plan B. The current line-up of EV is not bad, it is just not the best. It always feels like something is missing. I have accepted Rhona as Max's replacement and have suggested on other videos on this channel that EV should invest in hiring a 4th singer to bring back some of that EV 4-part harmony power. A "Dawn replacement" if you will. I think this is just as valid of a solution as Cindy & Terry continuing to push EV as a trio on the world. They have been putting off the release of Electric Cafe since 2016, and the promotion of it (in my opinion) has been sub par. It seems like they can't figure out what they want to do. I truly want them ALL to succeed, it just appears as if they are lost without each other. The best Xmas gift this year or next would be an EV original line-up reunion or a new EV line-up as a quartet.

*The Movie still came out in 2014 and nothing happened* as mad as she was for not being part of it. Well that's what happens when you quit a group to do R&B Divas instead. You are not included in projects. The name En Vogue according to the Court of Law belongs exclusively to Cindy & Terry. The 2 original members who are still keeping the group going. Maxine, the other member who left, found that out the hard way when she tried to start another En Vogue group.

From what I've been hearing, Letoya and Latavia still are in contact with Beyonce and Kelly, and Letoya and Michelle have been close friends for 7 years now. Letoya and Letavia are not adverse to reuniting with Beyonce and Kelly. They have both said that they are just waiting for Beyonce. They all still talk to each other and have put the past behind them.

An EnVogue Christmas is one of holiday traditions, it’s fun how they bring the group together for fundraiser concert.
She has a beautiful singing and speaking voice
Its so sad to see what happened within this fantastic group of ladies. I LOVED Envogue and their voices blended so well together. These ladies can SANG! But like most female groups there's always something that happens with a member or two leaving. The Supremes, Martha and The Vandellas, even the sister groups like the Emotions, The Pointer Sisters, it never ends. I wish Maxine and Dawn all the best and though I miss them so, so much with En Vogue I am glad to see Terri and Cindy still doing it with their newer member (who really isn't new as she's been holding it down with the two ladies for a long period of years). As the saying goes, the show must go on.

It was a Christmas Movie and the narrative wasnt focused on En Vogue's back story as much as their now stories.... EnVogue is still Envogue after 30 years.... Less than 10 of those years were Dawn involved

You don't know the details of the contract she do. If she don't have rights to the name but has rights to perform songs is a tell tell sign something is up because otherwise they would restrict her from performance. When you can sing those songs you have what is call performance rights. That means she has ownership. Which means everytime En Vogue perform those songs she should get payed .So something is up with the contact.
If ain't all 4 of them...I don't want it. They can take that "Rocket" and blast off into obscurity for all I care. Get it together ladies. Ya'll all are still alive and in the land of the living. Xscape's comeback tour was hella successful. They will never see anything remotely close to that success (selling out arenas 20 years after you came out) unless it's Dawn, Terry, Maxine and Cindy, point, blank, period.

OK I know Dawn personally. I have had many conversations with her regarding EnVoque. First, they were only getting 3 pennies per album, which is insane. After cost there wasn't much left. She, being Dawn stood up for herself and demanded more money for the GROUP. However, the other girls were divided, one (I will not name) was dating one of the producers and co-founder of the group. Dawn was given a take it or leave it option from record executives when she demanded to have an attorney look at they're contracts. She choose to leave it. Now, does that negate her contribution to the group?? No. She as one of the original members of the group put in the time and work to bring the group to the position were they are. They ALL did. Is she firey "yes", is she hot tempered "yes". However, her temperament is not the question here. Her work is. If she and her work are going to be portrayed, then she like the rest should be fairly compensated. Cindy and Terry did not build EnVogue by themselves. The only question in my mind is what would be the split.
I'll name her; it was Terry and Denzel Foster. Sylvia Rhone was the executive who undermined Dawn's every move to try and get fair compensation for the whole group.
With that being said...Dawn's mistake, as I have told her; is going after her rights directly instead of through an attorney. She sings and makes good music, let the attorneys do the nasty work. Dawn is crazy talented and if given the opportunity she could still push out platinum. Weather you like it or not she is a brick in the EnVogue name, brand and legacy.

Too many people being so judgmental when no one knows all the details but the original members of Envogue. It's not about ego it's a business as any other business. Their name is their brand and I see where she is coming from. I also see where Cindy and Terry are coming from as well. It all depends on their legal right and contracts but it's sad that music is so business directed like this as well as hospitals and other services. It makes the heart and mind so unbalanced.
Dawn was the main ingredient. Bummer.

I think also part of the discord beside the money was about to opportunity for all the ladies to have equal as lead vocals. Dawn and Maxine were given lead with some songs but not majority. It seems that Terry and Cindy were the top lead vocalists and front members. Envogue was a powerhouse group each member could sang!

Jasmine G Terry was sleeping with one of the producers and Cindy both were being taken care of financially. They had a contract for Dawn and Terry to produce single albums and When Terry’s flopped they ranked Dawn’s. She had every reason to be upset at the unloving way she was being treated and used.
Actually, another one of them left (Max) and they added another (Rhona). There was a lot of animosity between the Dawn/Max side and the Cindy/Terry side. Then some miracle happened, and all five got back together.

Um Raphael and Ali replaced her and they still ended up disbanding without releasing any new music, years later Ali sued Raphael. So I highly doubt it was Dawn's fault, more like she left a sinking ship before it fully sunk.

She just got tired of being taken advantage of!! She spoke up about selling millions of records and not hardly making any money.. Maxine was even unhappy with the arrangement.. The other two girls had personal ties with the creators and the executives..
You say she isn't difficult at all because you've met her before... Meeting someone and actually working with someone are two very different things. Dawn hasn't seen a project through to completion since her failed album in 2002 - there's a reason for that!

This is what I think, don't trip ppl. The new En Vogue shouldn't be allowed to perform any of the old songs they've made with Dawn and Max. It's like yal still livin off the past and can't move forward. I kno if I were Dawn and Max I will feel a type of way too. How can Dawn and Max move on if the new Ev3 is still performing song's that they sang on? I don't know it's just weird seein them perform they old hits without the originals. Dawn and Max put in a lot of work and it just can't be overlooked.
