Interesting thought: The band is from Austin, TX. Richard Linklater from ATX made a movie slackers, one scene where some Austin drifters were talking around a guy fixing his car. The theme of the song matches the movie exactly.
The song is based off a real life tragedy. An old couple from Soledo, TX went to go to a Fiddle Festival in Temple, TX and ended up getting lost. About 10 days later, their bodies were found at the bottom of a 25' cliff in Hot Springs, AR.
The studio guitar doesn't sound that bluesy, but the live version does - then you realize the studio version just alters the order of the notes a little bit.
@@jharvable many of the Beatles songs were sung by Macca. And also many of Cream's songs were sung by Jack Bruce. Then we have Rush, Slayer, Primus, Level42, ELP, Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, Blink182, King's X... yeah there are a few (although it's admittedly not very common).
I love the story behind this song! It was an inspired song. Jesus left behind One congregation The Way and they were not a religion, but Jesus' body here on earth. Acts 9: 1 " But Saul (before he became known as Paul) still speaking violently with threats and murder against the disciples of Jesus went to the high priest (2) and asked for letters to the synagogues in Damascus in order that he might bring bound to Jerusalem anyone he found who belonged to The Way, both men and women. (3) He was traveling to Damascus when suddenly he was blinded by a extremely bright light from heaven (4) causing him to fall to the ground and he heard a Voice say to him: ' Saul, Saul, why are You persecuting Me? ' (5) He replied: ' Who are You Lord? ' He answered him: ' I am Jesus whom You are persecuting! ' (6) Nevertheless rise and enter into the city and what you must do will be told to you." So can You see it? When Saul was persecuting the congregation of The Way, he was persecuting the body of Jesus! Another thing about the congregation of The Way, is they rejected the label ' Christian ' that they were given at Acts 11: 26 and verified that they did reject it by Acts 9:19, 23 & 22: 4 & 24: 14 If you would like to know more about The Way send me a message on fb Cheryl A.Allen. We can never thank the God and Father, Jehovah/Yahweh, enough for loving the world so much that He sent us His Firstborn Son, Jesus to be The Way back to Him.

Ken Q ok I’m glad someone else was paying attention lol I was like are they playing live?? Then it hit me it must be Max’s band aka Conan O’Briens live band must be supplying the bass at the beginning an keyboards during the song.. also did you catch the cringe face at around 2:21/2:22 when the guitarist attempted to do backing vocals lol I guess he was off mark or he wasn’t supposed to do it bc the lead singers face says it all 😂 😂
It's a backing track from their album. I don't know if you ever noticed but on the recording there's even two drum parts. Of course the guitars were over dubbed. The recording can't be played by 3 people.
Doug Provenzano they had another song or 2 that top the charts but basically this was their big song so technically yes one hit wonders with a few average songs
Doug Provenzano after writing that comment I could only think of 2 other songs that I know from radio play other than this song they are performing which is called the way.. the other 2 songs are called sooner or later which I remember hearing in a few movies like the water boy an that 90s Disney movie about skating which is called Brink.. an the other was called out of my head.. so 3 hit wonders is what they are but most would say those other 2 weren’t major big songs like this song
Fastball was never a one hit wonder. The Way is their signature song. They have other hits such as Fire Escape, Sooner or Later, Out of My Head and You're an Ocean.
Nay 😂 this song came out in 98 I think so your a bit off 😂 this is that weird time for rock music aka mid to late 90s an early 2000s bc grunge blew up fast an almost disappeared fast due to Kurt’s death an AIC breaking up an other bands with problems.. we ended with bands like this an cherry popn daddies lol Zoot suit riot 😂 😂 sugar ray, smash mouth, matchbox 20, third eye blind, Chumbawamba an Barbie girl song lol I could keep going but I want them bands like godsmack an disturb starting to revive rock
1998 such beautiful days back then. How I miss the 90’s.
You don't miss 90's, you miss your young years, because it was great ❤
@@phcb2269 the 90s we're better. People still liked one another. 911 fukt everything up 😞
Extraño mucho esos años 1998 el mejor año a mi parecer ¡¡
As a live performance, that sounded really great.
This was the first song that came on the radio when I went to study abroad in the U.S. when I was in 20s. Sooo touching and nostalgic.
This song still rocks in 2024
This is one of the greatest songs ever written. I’ve written 1650 songs and listened to at least 10k songs.
Tal cual. Una de las mejores canciones jamás escritas.
I always loved the 60s feel this song and a few of their others had.
I was a junior in hs in 98 when this aired, I still love this song so much
So was I my friend
same here! I miss the 90's!
underrated
Great song, great love story, a tragedy proving love conquers all❤ Thanks Fastball.

Awesome and live.
This shows you the power of the Blues! To an untrained ear this sounds like a pop song, but it's clearly fundamentally a Blues progression.
sounds like Pachelbel's Canon in D on the chorus, commonly used in pop songs - also used to great effect in BT's "Hook"
Sounds like Brazilian brega music
The studio guitar doesn't sound that bluesy, but the live version does - then you realize the studio version just alters the order of the notes a little bit.
❤❤❤❤Los Amo
Fastball isso é lindo
lead singer and bass player... how many other bands have such a dynamic...
The Police......and then????
Slayer
In bands from Spain and Latin Americs is somewhat common to see the lead singer playing bass...

Nice blues!!

There is no Bass in the 1st set of lyrics. The Bass comes in on the 2nd set of versus.
That's also how the song was originally arranged.
