32:30, you claim they are less than 100 miles away because of a sign seen in a prior scene. However, the officer who pulled them over was had a patch that indicated he was an officer in the state of WISCONSIN (based on the state depicted in the patch). So they OVERSHOT Chicago by a ton, since they had a few hours to go, and were thus NORTH of Chicago. If they left St. Louis while it was daylight during Thanksgiving week, even back before there were as many freeways, they should have made it to the Chicago area well before midnight, and possibly before 10 pm. When one is in the suburbs, you'd just do whatever to get home that same night, even if you had to call to have your wife or friend pick you up or take some mass transit. So they really messed up by somehow passing through Chicago. The number of hours they overshot by could get them WELL into Wisconsin...close to Green Bay.
I worked as a "greens man" in the early 90s. Dylan Baker, who plays Owen, one of the best characters ever, worked with me on "Return to Lonesome Dove" In a strange Karma situation, Dylan works out at the same gym as I do in NYC. And we remember working together and have some nice conversations...Owen is one of my favorite characters in movies ever.
And the scene on the highway between the 2 semis. Where Del is the devil. That was hilarious 😂😂😂. I don't think they have learned how to edit yet. Plus I agree with other commenter. Not much of a reaction.
John Hughes was filming the movie 'She's Having a Baby' with Kevin Bacon at around the same time, so he decided to have a "crossover" scene between the two movies.
The guy who robbed them was a pizza delivery person del didn't tip. In a deleted scene it is shown along with the guy dropping the pizza on the floor in the lobby and putting it back in the box. Neil makes a reference to it in the breakfast scene when he says "maybe when you went into my wallet for pizza"....
The Hangover absolutely has a plot, and a good well written missing person mystery plot at that. Crappy newer comedy movies(pretty much just excuses to do improv) don't have plots, good ones like The Hangover, Brides Maids, 50 First Dates, The Wrong Missy do.
Christmas movies tend to get all the glory, so it’s nice to see Thanksgiving get a real gem like this one. It’s also nice to see people enjoying it so much. 👍
One of the best comedies of the 80s. John Hughes did so many fantastic films back then Ferris Buelller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Uncle Buck, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, The Home Alone films and many more. The plot here lends itself to great comedy scenarios with Steve Martin as the straight guy, and John Candy as the clown. Funniest part is when the car catches fire. I saw this at the cinema on release, and the audience were nearly choking with laughter. A very poignant ending when we realise Del's wife has died and he is in fact homeless. A shame too that John Candy died so young at only 44 and indeed John Hughes himself died very young only 59. Still he left a great legacy of films, of which this was one of his best.
They probably mean while driving, like it's a distraction and keeps one of your hands occupied. And you might drop it and freak out, leading to dangerous maneuvers. That's not illegal either, but there's logic to the idea that it might be if you weren't around when half of people smoked.
There was a whole extra part of the story about Martin and he's wife but it was cut, so yea she is a bit to deep or something for the tone of the ending
YOU THREE ARE EMOTIONALESS TROLLS!! YOU BLAB AND GIGGLE DURING THAT TOUCHING SCENE AT THE END BETWEEN MARTIN AND CANDY!! Why are young people so untouched with their emotions!! Pathetic and disrespectful to the scene and the actors!!!!

Ah man, you cut out Candy's speech... thatd the most iconic scene.
That killed it for me. Plus there was very little reaction anyway. Maybe it's true what they say about gingers...

Yup that killed it for me too

Such an UNEMOTIONAL reaction from the three of you!

Yeah, the part where Neil reluctantly tries to eat the pizza was great. It was cut from the film but it is in the trailer.

John Hughes DENNIS The MENACE!!!!!!! So funny!!!!!!!!!
Another great Steve Martin film (one of my favorites) is L.A. Story.
One of the best endings in a film. The only movie I believes tops this ending is Charlie Chaplin's City Lights.
Planes Trains And Automobiles was released in 1987
Your cuts need some work.
You kids are hillarious. Great movie , keep going with John Candy films.
It’s never been illegal and still isn’t, to smoke cigarettes in a car. Where did you get THAT idea?!?
Did they really think this? Lmao.!
They probably mean while driving, like it's a distraction and keeps one of your hands occupied. And you might drop it and freak out, leading to dangerous maneuvers. That's not illegal either, but there's logic to the idea that it might be if you weren't around when half of people smoked.
Probably because they’re kids man
I know right, I couldn't believe they asked that. Even though they are young, I'm very surprised at the ignorance.
It is here! Been illegal for years now
The Dream Academy also has a song in a northern town 1985 its always reminds of my time spent in Inverness Scotland Highland back in the late 1990s.
20:31 Love the Father of the Bride hot-dog-bun reference!
Edie McClurg did a role with Steve Martin… She was hired on the Spot
The Bueller guy was a speech writer for president Nixon
The cab driver. Was in the movie Billy Madison?
Y'all should check out the comedies *Grumpy Old Men* and the sequel *Grumpier Old Men.*
