I work at a cheaper hotel and I wash multiple comforters and pillows almost every night 🤷🏿♀️🤷🏿♀️🤷🏿♀️ glad to see our hotel has a little higher standards then some in the comments as well as the video
I totally agree. At the place where I worked, we would always wash the comforters and pillows and if the pillows where very dirty we would throw them away.

Just add one pillow per load of something else.
Make sure not to over load it.
Send each pillow through multiple drying cycles.
That's the real kicker, you need to make sure the core of the pillow gets totally dry so mildew doesn't grow.

I have four pillows in which I wash and aired weekly and I own a mat instead of a bed because beds are nasty germs and bacteria breeding ground.
Thank God I'm not the only one who knows how to wash pillows! Them saying "I didn't know you could" threw me through a loop. 🤣🤣🤣

No lie. Some hotel chains only give their housekeeping staff 20 minutes to clean a single room...
I can attest to that. We are short staffed so we have to clean about 20 rooms a day.

I was 11 once.
I use an old tshirt around pillows at hotels. I don’t want to risk possible bed bugs or something else on my pillow. It’s easier to bag and wash an old tshirt than a whole pillow.

the pillows usually have a zip pillowcase and a regular pillowcase that are changed. (previous housekeeping experience) the things you need to worry about are the floors, the light switches and THE TV REMOTE! 🤮

As a former housekeeper, dirty glasses were NEVER washed in the rooms. They were removed and replaced with new, Cellophane wrapped glasses. The dirty glasses were taken to the hotel's bar/restaurant and washed with all the other dirty dishes. I can't tell you how many freshly-washed glasses I wrapped during my three years in the business. :)
I'm glad I've always been skeptical and brought my own pillow.
I'll never be able to relax in a hotel after this episode...

I worked at the 4 Seasons hotel and I can attest that the more expensive hotels aren't much better.I once saw a chef drop food on the floor, pick it up, and still use it.

I work at a leisure centre and the pillows are washed and we change the pillow cases more regularly. The coffee cups are cleaned with washing up liquid in the sinks toooo.

As a former housekeeper and a regular guest at many hotels, I firmly believe in housekeepers leaving clean folded linens in the room for the guests to put on the beds themselves. It saves keepers the “trouble” of changing bedding and the guests the fret of not knowing whether or not their sheets are clean. I double checked way too many rooms and found they didn’t change all the pillow cases/sheets/etc. not always, but once is too many🙅🏻♀️ most housekeepers are clean and want to leave a clean room though, so tip your housekeepers. It’s a shit job.
But what if you had the housekeeper who peed in your glasses and you ended up leaving him a tip? 😬
I usually stay in hostels and they always just leave clean pressed sheets for you to put on yourself and honestly it gives me more peace of mind than hotels.

I worked housekeeping for our local resort, woodloch and they were reallllly strict with cleaning, all pillows had 2 pillow protectors and a case and everytime new there were new people we had to change the case n outer protector. Everything had to be spotless toilets polished, showers had to be legit spot free or you had to redo it. And my god the intensity of cleaning the kitchen that was horrific oven, dishes, coffee pots, fridge everything had to be perfect. And we cleaned the places every day to maintain it while people were still there.
You can definitely put a pillow through the washer and dryer

As a former housekeeper, I can confirm that the pillows are rarely ever washed along with the duvet/duvet cover or comforter are rarely ever cleaned. The only time we washed the covers were if there were stains that couldn’t be scrubbed off or hidden by flipping them or if it was a pet room from the last guests. We did make sure that the furniture was relatively clean and always washed the dishes with either dish soap or by taking them to the dish washer.
I used to work at Microtel. The hotels are FILTHY. They don’t wash the pillows or the top blanket cover on the bed. One time someone left the bed covered in period blood and a USED TAMPON in the freakin bed under the sheets. And they pulled the top sheet over it so that there would be a surprise when we came to make up the bed!!! 😡😡😡😡 So... I made the bed. I left the tampon and blood right there. Guess who got the surprise when they hopped into the bed. The boss yelled at me so I QUIT! I was not getting paid enough to have to put up with someone outright being nasty just for fun. And I was def not being paid enough to touch someone’s blood. It was unsanitary and unsafe for me to touch that. They didn’t even give us the proper types of gloves back then. PLEASE... smh! 😑🙄 I was like PEACE!✌️lol

As someone who has worked as a "cleaning lady" at hotels, one sponge...for everything...toilet, table, kitchen countertops, phone...and one sponge for (where I was) 9 to 12 rooms

It's true. I work for glade springs resort and they hardly ever wash pillows. They do wash the pillow cases Every time they're used though.

I’ll say this about pillows, most hotels (especially name brands), they have an audit standard to clean the pillows at least once a quarter, and often they replace at least half the pillows once a year

Not enough time to clean besides cleaning the parts that can be removed and cleaned.
You do not get a new pillow they wash the pillowcase so bring your own also you can use a sleeping bag so sleeping on the bed with.
I always bring my own stuff for this reason and the fact I like my pillows

I also bring my own pillow, if I don't I wake up with a stiff neck! Also, to the comment above me: I find that washing down pillows works out better than trying to wash cotton ones. The cotton ones get lumpy, so all of mine are down for easier/better cleaning.

It's all true😆 but mainly only the disgruntled cleaners who don't get tips are the really nasty ones. Most of the time cleaners only get a few minutes at most to clean a room so some of them use gross ways to save time. I worked for 6yrs as a housekeeper and then room inspector at a popular timeshare and pillows were only washed if they were stained or wet (dont ask lol), some cleaners used windex not only on the glasses but anything that was clear glass (the timeshares have full kitchens), the extra blankets were just folded back up unless they were visibly soiled, same with any comforter or duvet- check underneathe and towards your feet ;) some nasty stains!!. One cleaner I used to deal with would use a mop to clean the counters and a broom to clean the toilet and tub and then use the same broom to clean the floors so NEVER TAKE BATHS- who knows how many other cleaners do the same lol. Dont ever leave any valuables behind, it's rare when the cleaners actually return them. oh yeah- NEVER TOUCH THE CARPETS- ESPECIALLY under the bed.... trust me. hahahahha

Yea I work at a holiday inn. The pillows are NEVER washed and when the linens are washed in the housekeeping room, they often end up on the floor and in all kinds of weird gross places. I’ve had housekeepers leave beds untouched when cleaning rooms for the next customer, the customer then finding out that an entire fist full of couscous was shoved under the covers. Yea they weren’t happy. When we get bed bugs or anything we aren’t allowed to talk about it and once the room was just put out of order for a couple of days and nothing was done about it. I hate my job
If I go on a road trip I'll bring my own pillows and if I fly I'll bring my own pillow cases
