It's been my experience that people move away from pilsners as they begin their craft beer journey, but then much later, come back to them, because it takes a good deal of experience to recognise the craft and nuance they can have
Yeah, we're definitely seeing that these days as the craft drinkers get older.
Bro you nailed it, 100% True! You just described me LOL.
U described me too im done with IPA's it gives me heartburn 😤 I'm back to lagers and pilsners
I don't know why, but after a short journey with kraft, today I just bought Urquell because I missed this cool, nostalgic taste. It's good to be home. Cheers
Yeah, coming full circle. My craft beer journey started roughly 16 years ago. I still enjoy a West Coast/Northwest IPA, but only in small quantities. A 5 oz. pour is ideal. The nuances in pale lagers/pilsners/helles, even some industrial macro lagers are much more appealing to me these days. My mind started changing about 3 years ago after sessioning hazies for a summer...I haven't had those particular beers since. My palate wore out fast. Cheers
One of the world's great beers!
Agreed. One of my picks as well.
This is truly the beeriest beer there is for sure, and I’d expect nothing less from the original pilsner. It’s even better if you have the chance to drink it in the Czech Republic. Cheers Darwin
I had some great examples at Cohesion in Denver.
Best beer in the world and its from my coutry..👌
My man, I've watched loads of beer reviews and loads on pilsner Urquell but your review captures this masterclass better than them all.
Cheers
Thank you thank you! Really appreciate it!
This is amazing review. I am from Pilsen, had hundreds of pilsner beers and your description is the most accurate from all reviews I've seen, you read the taste extremely precisely. You really understand this beer. Big respect. You are Czech :D
Wow! Thank you so much. I visited the brewery years ago before I appreciated beer. Cheers!
@@DarwinsBeerReviews Nazdravi! :D
I never thought I would say it but I'm loving Pilsners now. I'm a stout/porter/imperial stout fan but I basically just discovered the German Pilsners. Bitburger is excellent if you have a chance to find it. Also Grevensteiner by C&A Veltins is a really good German unfiltered Lager. Just got some Pilsner Urquell last week!
Oh nice! I haven't reviewed that Veltins.
Word!
Great review. I watched other beer reviews before finding Darwin. I wasted my time on those other channels. Darwin is the beer boss and has doubled my enjoyment and appreciation of beer.😀
Thank you so much! Appreciate it!
That stuff is perfection. When I think of pilsner or lager in general that's the beer I think of. I always like to keep a few in the fridge. If someone wants to know what pilsner tastes like that's the beer I suggest.
Well I do find this specific with Czech. German PIls has a definitive difference.
I've been drinking nothing but PU for the last 2 years or so. It has just come to represent all that I need in a beer. The low ABV ensures that I don't experience a headache which can sometimes occur with high alcohol IPA's which I used to be quite fond of.
I never really thought PU was a buttery beer, which is funny considering you mention intentional diacetyl compounds.
I'm down for some PU. That is one of my favs.
Thank you! That is exactly my opinion, a very underrated beer nowadays.
For sure! Glad the Czech drink more than enough!
Just a nice everyday beer. Lager-drinkable, good body, some bite, very well balanced, no metallic taste, not boozy, miiiiles ahead of the regular dross (Heineken, Stella, Carling, Fosters, San Miguel....).I prefer it to Budvar, which is nice also, but lacks bite for me. But you know, mix and match sometimes. An IPA here, a Guiness there.... Even a nice English Bitter once in a while.
But Desert Island beer? Yeah, definitely Pilsner Urquell.
With that on side pull Lukr pours. It's gotta be a desert island beer
Cheers bro 🍻 🍻 🍻
Cheers!
Great as always. I would love to watch you review more "commercial" beers like this.... import or domestic but beyond thr craft beer industry. Though I know you have done from time to time. Keep it up! 98!!!
Sounds good. More commercial beers! I'll keep that in mind.
This guy loves his beer and theres nothing wrong with that. This ones a great brew PROST!🍻
Thank you!
Fullers London Pride in a 500ml bottle. Biggest Diacetyl bomb ever lol.
Good pick! I need to find myself some revisit.
98/100 for a beer with intentional diacetyl. You’re really changing, man! LOL. Kidding, my man.
Haha, it's a good diacetyl!
I’m a fan of hazy ipa’s, what would you recommend some popular ones to try that you have tried before ?
- thanks
Where are you based out of? For shelfies, I recommend New Belgium Voodoo Ranger series.
@@DarwinsBeerReviews I’m east coast more specifically Maryland.
@@Skap91 Maryland?! You need to go to Sapwood Cellars!
For me urquell is the best pilsner and also a worst one. The smell mmm it is one of the freshest beer smells. For a first half of bottle it is also a drink of gods - very refreshing clean taste of a great chech pilsener. But then the bitternes kicks in and i can barely end a bottle. The bitter aftertaste stays in my mouth for a very long time(no ipa can match this). So one bottle is the limit for me. Overall great beer but only in small doses.
Weird. I have that as a beer I can enjoy a six pack of. Maybe it gets warm for you?
Darwin im gonna be on you until you get a Weissbier glass. You have a glass for this but not Weissbier? What kind of Connesuer are you? Lol. If you get a Weissbier glass, i garauntee youll buy more Hefeweizen, the glass changes everything.
I do have a wheat beer glass. More glasses coming to channel!
I drank twenty, twenty ounce PU one
Day Over a 15 hour period during the World Cup. Just saying!
Hahha! What a day... Where was this?
Crown and Anchor Las Vegas LOL, great times. I love that beer, they had that side pour thing going on with the PU. Delicious 😋 😂
@@NevadaNihilist Haha, go nuts with that. Sounds like a fun time.
That's what kids get packed to school from mom here :D (Czech) Just kidding, I think better beers for recreational drinking (above 10 beers) are 10°s (this is 12°). They are not that thick bodied and go down really easily without knocking you off your shoes too fast. Gambrinus, Staropramen, things like this, or even Czechvar if you can get (that is the original Budweiser, has more vol but isn't that full)
And they are like a dollar in Czech
And on tap, what's the price again? It was like $2 when I was there a decade ago.
Weinstephaner Kristall Weiss
That's your go to?
@@DarwinsBeerReviews no but its great lol i had it tnite
lager > ale
Probably because lagers are trendy now. Don't try too hard.
Hot take!
I think Pilsners all taste the same :'-(
Which ones have you had?
@@DarwinsBeerReviews I think my palette is destroyed from drinking too many new england hazies, I've had Pilsner Urquell, weihenstephaner, and lagunitas.
@@darwin6883 try a few of them blind side by side and you'll notice the differences more apparently
@@darwin6883 Chech and german pilseners are very different.
