I have both a fully built Evo and GR Yaris. The GR Yaris is a great little car - more comfortable, solid brakes, decent engine and lightweight, but has weird things like poor visibility (infotainment, windows and mirrors), high seating position and lacks a bit of low end torque etc. The ECU is also very inconsistent so the car feels different all the time. The Evo has a better 4wd system, more exciting engine, sharper steering and more room but is starting to get old. I think the GR Yaris is continuing the old 90s JDM tradition. I'm glad these cars are still made today.

Yaris is 90% of Evo, but new car with warranty and no rust and breaking all parts 😅 So for me GR > Evo, but I loved my Evo too👍

@@jagymeister Yes I definitely see the GR as a new Evo too myself. It's a bit closer to the Subaru Sti in feel from my experience. I used to own one of those too.

I 100% agree with you. But keep in mind: The GR is a 20year-25year younger car. Let's "celebrate" that Toyota has produced a car like the GR in 2020...
(I really love mine by the way.)
      P.S.: Edit
I think the Lancia Stratos, compared in several ways, is much worse compared to a modern car and vice versa. BUT cars like the Stratos, and the GR are icons of their time. Similar to the Quattro and may be the Evo 6...

@@Eratosthenes0815 Definitely man, I appreciate your passion with cars. That's starting to die out too. The GR Yaris is an awesome car and I love mine too.
PS: I've driven a modern Listerbell Stratos replica, that thing was absolutely insane and such a physical thing to drive, but makes you feel alive. I came out drenched in sweat. 😅

Does a remap solve the inconsistency of the ECU? Is it constantly taking ignition timing and fueling away or...?

Both are really good 4wd sport car, but Evo has true full-time 4wd which has mechanical center diff so the smoothness of torque distribution is way better than GR yaris which has huldex coupling type AWD.

in what terms? 🙂 I have VII and GR is better in basically every aspect. Evo has better 4WD system, but thats doable on GR already and Evo more overhand so easier to play with it. On the other hand, Evo is old, expensive, mostyl crashed and rusted. Would anyone daily Evo? No. Id rather make 25k km every year than 2k km per year in old Evo😅

@@jagymeister Evo V was more fun to drive then GR. Of course I am talking about 22 years ago car!! Probably GR is faster on track because of brakes and tires but it lacks on high revs and the the steering wheel is not that communicative.
Still think that Evo was more a race car then GR

@@mariobotti1952 revs are the same. In stock form, Evo is maybe more raw but also useless car on daily basis 🙂 You can make GR better im every aspect if you dont like something. I rather make 25000 km in GR than 2000 km in Evo per year. Much more fun on daily basis. And yes, GR is also faster on circuit, hillclimb and rally. Evo is great, but just so old. Its not 2000 anymore, time to move on.😅

@@jagymeister Whi cares about daily basis? I have more fun using the Evo V than th GR. If you tune both, with the mitsu engine there is no comparison. Of course brakes tires and the overhall is better on GR.
For daily basis I am using a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid....

@@mariobotti1952 most owners do. Because we have fun daily. I can make trips across the Europe often, which is not possible with Evo and every Evo owner know why😅 GR engine is awesome, not worse than Evo. You can make 400hp with stock engine and turbo. If there is something better in Evo, its 4WD system and overhangs.
If you dont like it, sell it and buy Evo 👍

You compare a old Evo 7 with Gr Yaris. Damn, that’s a bullshit. The Evo 9 or X are much better to drive. GR Yaris is nice car but more for a woman. 👍🏼

    • @jagymeister
      @jagymeister  Рік тому +7

its not bullshit, its reality. I have both Evo VII and GR Yaris. Both has pros and cons and Yaris is hell of a car considering low price and modern times. Evo costed a LOT back then, it would be even much more right now with inflation and so on.
Thing is that with GR you have 90% of Evo, but with many pros over Evo and - of course - with warranty. I love it, same as Evo. 😊
