- The Maasin bridge and bendy coconut tree are on everyone's Siargao list, but after living here for 1 year locals reveal a secret that we had no idea existed deep in the jungle here on this beautiful Philippines island. The best part was, we ALL got to go there as a family, including captain EDEN the dog.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.

Eden on a boat is such a cutie. Nice to see the family complete while traveling and exploring! The bird songs and the water splashing are soooo therapeutic.

Story´s "row row your boat" is in perfect note. most kids of her age can´t do that
The short palm trees are called "nipa", it's leaves are used to make roof shingles.
Truth
The fruit can be eaten or made into sweets. The sap can be turned into vinegar and wine(lambanog) or drink as it is.
Whenever I see Nipa trees on a swampy area, I can only think of one thing, Mud Crabs! Alimango in tagalog.

I remember how Story was scared of open water but look at her now. And water therapy for Eden.
4:43 Those are Nipa palms, a different species from coconuts. They are not shoots, but adult palms. They're a mangrove palm, so they grow directly on water or on very wet ground. Their leaves are actually the ones used for native roofs and walls, as they are sturdier than coconut leaves, hence why the alternative American-era name for the native houses ("balay" in Bisaya, "bahay kubo" in Tagalog) is "nipa hut".

Such a happy child. She is so fortunate to have all these outdoor activities. So few these days experience this. In the big cities, an outing in the Philippines involves a mall.
Once you visit The enchanted river in Surigao’s Hinatuan river, you will be amazed how deep and how blue the water is with lots of fishes you can see. There you can ride a boat and navigate the river after swimming. It’s a big lagoon and you will surely be enchanted. Hope you can visit the famous Hinatuan river in your future travel or even in one weekend visit. Lots of UA-cam videos you can check

I’m so jelly of Story’s hair and the shape of her face just like her paternal grandma! Just a suggestion.. Becoming filipino is a great way to get ideas of places to go. He been in a lot of kids friendly place(kids can actually do little hike, boat, and etc)

@3:23 my favorite, the bird chirping, the sound of the the water splashing and the paddle on the boat, and with the beautiful scenery. I love being surrounded with nature, I miss my hometown and hike into the mountains 😌 and going in our favorite spot a cliff where you'll see a beautiful view of the dense forest listening to the birds, and leaves blown by wind its very calming.

Hearing story singing away with such unfiltered joy really makes me think of the same for my girls too. I do miss my home country and have been seriously thinking of 'what else' is out there for my children. This is definitely better than any classroom can teach them and by no means, I am not disparaging traditional academia but what an amazing experience it would be. The world is the classroom. What an experience it would be. What if.....if only......should I move back and see where things go?

I’ve been there but I never thought that the arial view is so stunning❤️. Thank you for giving us “birds eye view”. That Bent Palm tree used to be an instagram superstar before pandemic happened, it is so surprising to see it alone and no one is climbing to take photos
It’s the most famous attraction in Siargao, I only went to Siargao after seeing the rope swing over the river on UA-cam so I’m amazed you didn’t know about it. I also found a great local pond and rope swing not far from there. Take a right after the red bridge, as you’re heading back to GL, and then left at the next town and it’s on the bend ...... great watching the local kids having fun there.
That was fun! It seems like you guys have enjoyed that river tour especially Story & Eden! I suggest you do the SAN ISIDRO RIVER TOUR next time! San Isidro River is the longest river in Siargao. It's about 8 kms long and much wider than Maasin River. You'll see a lot of nipa palm or mangrove palm & other trees along San Isidro River. Occasionally, there are sightings of crocodiles in that area but there are also spots where you guys can swim safely, haha! Just ask your boatman/guide to take you the swimming spots where the water is clear just to be on the safe side.😊

That was a very nice lagoon. And Story has enjoyed the Row row your boat adventure.
This is one of the best little adventure that truly benefits the locals. It is good there are no restaurants, it preserves the authenticity and serenity of the surroundings. The music from the radios are quite distracting, (in my opinion) maybe it would be much better if the volume was not so loud so that people can enjoy just the sound of the water, wind and rustle of the trees. I remember past vlogs where Jay just have the sound of nature and it was truly an example that one can almost be present on the spot.
