  • In the video, I demonstrate the significance of comprehending the basics of sharpening, the do's and don'ts when shopping for sharpening tools, and what to look for in a sharpening stone. The size and type of abrasive do not matter as long as they are suitable for the steel being sharpened. I also share a method that I use when traveling or away from home. In this video, I use the Venev Greater Dog stone series, which ranges from F150 to F800. Watch the video to see the results achieved with this stone. Michael Christy's videos got me really into holding the stone in hand while sharpening. These are great for that.
I dont really subscribe to the whole "pocket sharpener" concept, though. Sandpaper is perfect for that.
I was away from home for a construction project, recently. The only real knife i brought with me was a custom in s90v at 63HRC. After 3 days of use, it got pretty dull but less than 2 minutes with some 320 grit ceramic sandpaper got it hair-popping sharp again and it ended up still being able to scrape shave when i finished the project 2 days later.

Yup Michael Christy @michaelchristy4982 was one of the great sharpener who uses the stone in hand technique..Michael (Mike) Emler of @CrazySharp also does an amazing job using stone in hand technique..I on the other hand really needed the small pocket stone due to the amount of grinding needed when I damaged my knife edges, weight and space limitations also play a role when traveling offshore for work.btw Thanks for dropping comments.. appreciate it very much
