How I unload a Giant Propane Tank by Myself!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 вер 2024
- I got a call to drive to Volcano, CA to pick up a 250 gallon propane tank. I looked it up and learned it was 450#. No problem! I lift that kind of weight all the time with the proper tools. When I got there, it was actually a 500 gallon tank weighing 950#. Took a little longer to load, but we got it! Then I unloaded it all by myself.

Well thought out plan, you are getting it done and not letting fear rule you mind. Thank you!
I'm lucky/glad to have tractors with front end loaders for stuff like this.
The problem with having a tool to lift heavy objects is the same problem with having a big wallet. A big wallet gets stuffed with more crap. When you have a hoist or crane, you find yourself acquiring more heavy stuff.
Wildman Tech Quite true. But makes little tasks much nicer. Especially since I'm certainly not young, strong, and tough as nails anymore.
I use my home made oversized engine hoist for things like that. I can dissassemble it and take it out to the cornfield, doesnt roll well on soft dirt.
You are one badass smart old/young guy....I would've never thought of of this!
WildMan!
Nice job getting that tank loaded and unloaded. And you have all your fingers and toes. Sounds like a win!
Thanks Lloyd. Wait till you see what I do with it.
I bolt castered beams under mills and lathes to move them. The beam width ensures the load can't tip, and it's MUCH safer than using a forklift though of course much slower. Useful video!
I wasn't going to mention safety, the tank looked happy, so that was good enough for me!! :)
You must have been a propane guy. I was, brought back memories...
A big item, well done for getting it into your shop. It goes to show what can be moved with pullies and rope
Your an intelligent guy. I had no reason to think this wasn't going to work. But it was fun to watch anyway. :)
I taught Construction Technology to high schoolers. Always showed them the difference between using you back or your brain. Built 8 x 16 storage sheds in the shop (so they could not be stolen or vandalized ) and then rolled them out by chain link round fence poles placed under the skids. They were amazed!
Been there, done that without the casters. Transported with my 1ton dump, unloaded with my 4060 Kubota.
Very well done, especially that safety disclaimer at the beginning. It sure kept "the safety police" quiet.
Fantastic man!
Absolute perfection.... Nice job.
When in doubt, figure it out. Good Job.
Woah! That's a crazy huge tank!
I loved it, thank you for doing that, I need to do the same and have a truck with the same liftgate only longer! 👍🏼
Could have driven the trucking the garage, flooded it and floated it off, not sure the truck and rest of garage contents would have survived the ordeal though! Good job, have a plan, think it through and execute it. My main worry any time I move anything big and heavy is the COG and working out what needs to be done to prevent tipping/toppling of the load whilst moving it.
I purchased a 500 gal propane tank that was about 50% full. I just backed a tractor with bale forks on the 3pt hitch under it, changed the tank to the frame of the bale forks and drove it home. We had more of a problem moving a 1000 gal tank that was 30 percent full.
That was awesome one man move! Out in the field and working by yourself a guy has to be resourceful. I went up above Warrensburg, NY and snagged a I think 300 but its over 9' wide, not sure if it was a 500, nevertheless, I'm making a lawn roller out of it. Bought long 6" x 6"s to cross members to bolt together a wooden frame underneath to bolt on 6" casters so I can roll tank over and over while my wife stands at the ends with a sharpie marker and marks the centers of round sides for drilling for long shaft with pillow block bearings. This project first so I can proceed with making my backhoe cart with the same 600 lb rated casters, I think I bought 2 stationary and 4 steering caster style at harbor freight 6" high no less.
Amazing, you are SO resourceful it uncanny. My degree is in Occupational Health & Safety and I have nothing to say! LOL
Very ingenious. Good job. You did not say if the tank was full or empty that I can remember. Like watching NASCAR for a crash!
Well Done!
Looks like that was fun
Amazed DOT didn't stop ya to check it.
The orange smiley face we sprayed on was our good luck charm
I need this tank.
Craigslist! They show up there all the time.
Having extra people for something as heavy as that would not be much use anyway, the most they would do is be spotters and probably spout bad advice.
good job!
I have a feeling I will have to do this soon my self.
Great job. Well thought out. You did it safely.
Put the truck in reverse, get a lot of speed going, hit the brakes. Self unloading...lol.
I was just going to attach it to the door and open it, then let the door opener lower it down.
I dug out a 250 as well from my back field . It's been buried at least 12 years . I cut out a 4 ft wide section lengthwise off the top . I pulled it with my 4x4 to a place in front of our screened in porch . I will bury it and leave the top 10 in. above ground . Chip all the rust flakes from inside and coat it with rubber white paint . It will ( hopefully ) be a pond . Any advise or has anyone done this before ? I'm newly retired and have nothing better to do with this tank . So ALL comments will be helpful . Ramiro
That was bad ass!!
I did offer to help you get it off the truck. After seeing this I am sure I would have just gotten in the way.
The tank is missing a triangle nose. With that and a little red hat you can call it Jack (in the box).
At least you didn't start off the video with "here, hold my beer and watch this".
We thought about that, but didn't have the materials on hand to fab it before the trip home, Couldn't resist the spray paint though.
You applied your brain where it mattered, and applied brawn where necessary. You considered the potential failure points and did your best to avoid them. It would have been better/safer to wait for help of course, but you're not going to hear me moan about it! Great job!
P.S. "precariously balance it", I lost it there :D
Whew....now I can breathe. Great thinking skills you've got Wildman. Only safety issue I have is this: You should have put a safety helmet on the dog.
I sent her into the house any time anything was in motion. That dog is very important tome!
Perfect job, very safe.
Nice score great self unloading Marsh! What are you going to use that tank for?
👍👍where there's a will....
My brother is a retired rigger. So, I sent him a link to your video. How did you attach the come-a-long to the inside of the truck? Great job! You are like a farmer who is forced to do things by himself!
I have anchors that are bolted to the frame in the front of the bed.
@@WildmanTech We have to do something similar but with some 500 lb drums. Want to make it easy... looks like come along would work, but what is the size of rope/wire you used for this. We will be using a tree branch to lift it up into our trailer. Any ideas, trying to figure out if we need come along or something else. Please help asap, husband anxious to move them and want him to not hurt himself. Thank you!
@@lizdvine2548 I'd use a barrel dolly. Like this technique of loading a refrigerator... www.instructables.com/id/The-safe-and-easy-way-to-load-a-refrigerator-onto-/
This was some great ingenuity!!! Well thought out how to stay safe yourself and to protect the tank also.
Only thing is...as a person wanting to do this alone I would consider that lift gate equivalent to about 6 more men...lol. Not a lot of people have a lift gate. It made a whale of a difference in you doing this 'single-handedly.'
Would like to see a video of someone unloading a tank without the lift gate.
For some reason, I feel like you would be able to figure out a way if you did not have that lift gate. Your mind is really good considering each step of negotiating things like this. Thanks for a great video...but....it wasn't exactly 'all alone.' Jesus bless.
Very impressive!
Thought you were gonna let the tailgate down n gun it lmbo
That would have damaged the casters.
Damn I need one to build a smoker
Here's one I made from an air tank... instagram.com/p/B6WYC8hAavB/
New bbq grill? Or do you have other plans for the tank?
Park Bench
Build a submarine!
What casters did you use? Are they the 3 inch with a working load of 100lbs each? I have a 250 gal tank I need to move
@@rodneyowens7919 I think their working load was more like 300 pounds each. They were cheap Chinese crap I picked up for $4 each.
Nice, 3/4 ton truck? I need to move a tank like that! What size casters are those?
1/2 ton. 3-1/2” casters.
The question I have is why in your right mind would you put a tank that big inside a bldg
So I could get to it with my plasma cutter. Here's that video... ua-cam.com/video/_MYnnV7srek/v-deo.html
Do you have the size of the casters or dimensions ?? Need to do the same job and figure this would def work.. ty
The front casters from a shopping cart are what I used.
Nice video! Would have been more dangerous if it was full of propane....and you had your forge going. : )
will you use it for propane or other uses.
HealthSupercharger In a later video I make it into a bench.
I’m just curious if you have to do that type of work why you doing have a hoist overhead.
A hoist requires a steel framework I don't have space for. I never know what the next task will be. I cannot be prepared for everything so I adapt as situations arise.
Brain beats Brawn!
Can I move a propane tank with gas in it?
I would not recommend it.
1:32 - 1:42 I see 2 smiling faces HAHAHAHAHAHA
Bloke chill 1000 galley
Moving one of these in Wisconsin is felony unless its done by a licensed tech.
ugh
I think you made this more difficult than necessary...but you got it done.
Very close to what i have to do every time i need to pee.
So glad I'm not the only one!
Looks perfectly safe to me you only suggestion I would make would be to have had a cell phone handy and in addition to the one on the camera just in case you have to dial 911 but anybody gives you any crap tell them stop being a wussy..and I'm osha approved
Safety, schmafety.
Man! Keep your head AWAY from that come-along! I’ve seen em snap pretty violently. Just sayin. Great channel BTW.
There wasn't much tension on it. The rope would have broke long before anything happened with the come-along. Thanks for stopping in.
Wildman Tech oh, ok I gotcha. Neat channel, glad I found ya! Thanks
PHYSICS!!!
