We are so focused on his amazing playing that some don't even notice he is dressed as they were at the rooftop concert. The attention to detail is amusing in every aspect.
George was on fire on Let It Be/Get Back. His lead on Don't Let Me Down was freaking elegant, and the "bassline" on Two Of Us as well. So much for forgetting how to play the guitar due to playing the sitar for too long.
Получилось совершенно роскошно ! Всегда нравилась эта песня...а,теперь я её ещё и увидел !....Энергия в каждой ноте ! Прекрасная работа ! Большое спасибо !
Man, without fail you seem to capture every single possible aspect of their playing. from the little nuances, the accents, rhythm, to even the damn outfits!! truly amazing what you’ve been doing for the guitar community, and beatles fanatics alike. Awesome work as always sam!
Aww, Sam...you made my morning....thank you, thank you! I've always loved this one since I was a child. I just always loved the energy and the sheer fun and joy of the rooftop version. The whooping howl that Paul gives when George is soloing always puts a smile on my face. They froze their butts off up there and regardless, they put in over 110 percent You did this with such justice and integrity.
Just finished rewatching "Get Back" last night 😊Comparing Paul's bass and George's lead guitar in the rooftop performance to their 1960 and 1963 versions shows just how far their musicianship improved over time! George was not a virtuosic soloist, but he nailed this one!
Sometimes George will stop to leave space for the rhythm and vocal sections but he’ll still be plucking along with such heavy muting it turns into percussion.
I’ve always admired how you (and the Beatles) are able to get what I kinda like to describe as the “dirty clean” tone. It’s not overdriven to the point where it gets to sound muddy, and it still has an element of cleanness to it when played quiet enough. :)
@@sampopkinI forgot to mention, but the fact you even dress like the Beatles is also really cool, it really shows dedication, and it’s impressive. Oh and btw when I meant I’ve said this multiple times, it’s because I’ve commented on this video when it was unlisted multiple times lol
Amazing as always. Thank you for all your hard work, attention to details and overall excellent videos. You deserve a lot of credit and respect for all that you've done and continue to do.
Great cover as always Man, You proved John and George one of the great guitarists in rock music, even tough some music critics out there still underestimate them.
Great job again Sam!! I have learned a bunch of stuff I have been playing wrong or the wrong inversion for 50 years from you. You are the man when it comes to the Beatles Sam no doubt. I have been a Beatles fan or nut ever since I heard I want to hold your hand or long long time. Keep them coming.
Us Beatles fans have it so great with people like you going in to such crazy detail of pretty much everything, the details added in the timestamps and the usual stuff in your descriptions are just so good!
Brilliant cover as usual - this song is among my favorite, I play and sing it nearly every time I pick up my guitar. Look forward to your cover of Please Please Me ^^!
i always love it this song, have the vibes of the begin 60s, the first version was good, but was a good option "forget her" some years and give a new structure years later, for have been improvised George done a very good and rocker part
Your original cover of this brought me to your channel, and now it seems i’ve come full circle with it. Amazing job though Sam your playing is fantastic!
Doesnt george mess up the intro riff by playing it 2 frets down first? Its really quick but its there! You can tell because John and Georges guitars do not match for the first bend but george fixes his mistake then you can hear both guitars in sync together
You can see in the movie George plays it up at the 7th fret. I think what you're hearing is one of them bending the D note up to a major third Eb. While the other stays on D. Very dissonant
This is the song where you can dig what george said to paul during the rehearsals about eric's playing and going round in solos without stopping...he really got a rocky pentatonic solo just using a bit of 3 pentatonic shapes
Were you able to see how high they had the EQ on the amps? With tube amps, the more you dial in, the more they tend to crank. And George's is particularly high in treble, which the distorted sound is usually a product of?
Yeah that’s a good point, also having the bright switch on can produce more overtones. I have never been able to discern their knob settings on the twins. But I do have Paul’s bassman knob numbers…
@@sampopkin there must be at least one photo where you can make our the levels on the Twins. Also, on the original recording, you can hear John play the opening chord on the wrong fret. Did they correct that on future recordings.
Great work, mate! One of my all-time favourite Beatles’ songs! I love the fact they started it many years earlier but it gets a real boost in their revisit. Quick question: Do you think it sounds like George is using the bridge pickup for the first 12-13 seconds, before switching to the bridge? I only ask because I must’ve listened to isolated tracks of this song hundreds of times and, when ‘Get Back: The Rooftop Performance’ album was released a while back, you get to hear some of the buildup and chatter before the recording (Track 5). I have a couple of rosewood teles and, to my (albeit amateur) ear, I feel certain he starts on the neck pickup before undoubtedly switching to, and remaining on, the biting bridge pickup. I know this sounds like next-level pickiness but I just wanted to get your opinion on it. Have a listen and see what you reckon…
In the get back movie you can see George start on middle position before switching to bridge. Not picky! I’m the same way- I want to know as many little details as possible
Regarding the twins. I know you said you don’t know exactly why but do you have any guesses/speculations on why their twins were so dirty? Ive had 2 twins (one with original cts speakers and one with Jensen c12s) and have cranked them both getting no where near this much distortion.
I’m really not sure, even my pro reverb which is 40 watts doesn’t crunch like that when cranked. There’s a theory from a former fender employee that these amps they had on the roof were prototype UK import silverfaces with a different circuit altogether. It remains a mystery!
@@sampopkin thanks! Ive heard rumors that their versions were a weird 20 watt export version or something like that. I wonder if we even know where these amps are in 2024
an absolutely wonderful recreation of all the nuances of the original performance so it pains me to say it but - you forgot george's mistake at the very beginning of the song where he accidentally played the opening lick at the 5th fret instead of the 7th fret! (I'm pretty sure you covered just george's guitar part for this one, a while back, and did include that mistake in the intro, which is possibly how I know that's what it is!)

Guitar straps too! Sam’s the man with the details.
As well as John clasping his freezing cold hands at the end.
Tremendous!!!
On this song, George Harrison was wild on lead guitar. Pure Rock n’ Roll.

@@akwilson1676 ,exactly. Great observation.
@@akwilson1676also his playing on Dig A Pony, especially the solo, is so good
the attention to John’s hands getting cold is spot on!
Me hands getting to cold to play a chord lol
You passed the audition!
What a cool solo from George!
It's nice to hear the little fills that George did in this song. He was drowned out by Billy's keyboard on the Spector version.

That tone is incredibly accurate

Great cover Sam. Hopefully you cover the Anthology 1 version of my favourite Beatle song :)
I’m glad they didn’t put out this song in their early days. They kicked it up a few notches when they came back to it in ‘69.
The GOAT. Thanks Sam

"Wrote that when i was about 15"😎
