THANK YOU! I swear, with all the "pros" out there trying to compare crochet hooks not a dang one of them gave the information you did in explaining why you use STEEL crochet hooks when doing thread crochet. Appreciate the information you shared!

I just found my grandmothers steel hooks, (I’m 72, so don’t know how old the are) some of them have Japan on them and have covers protecting the tips, others have made in England named Milward, one no name or size and the others are Boyd. What a mixture. All are like new! Thank you for your video explaining all the sizes etc. I have crocheted with yarn for decades, so now I’ll attempt using thread… wish me luck 😂

By mistake, as a beginner, I bought very fine thread while thinking of making shawl (the easy one). This video helped me. Thank you so much for saving my threads😊

That's funny! That's what I have my crochet hooks in as well. Just started my attempts at crocheting doilies so I'm learning. Thank you for the information on both the hooks & the threads.

I like the pointed heads so I can push it through fabric when adding on lace. Like pillow cases etc

If only all hooks used mm sizing, there would be no confusion, and the sizing would also be universal! When I started learning to crochet I bought the cheapest crochet hook set that came with its own pouch. (I love the pouch almost as much as the contents) In it, there are hooks from 2mm, 2.5 mm, and all the way to 6 mm on one side, and on the other side, I have steel hooks from 0.9 mm all the way to 0.5 mm. Any one of them is so sharp it is no wonder you are not allowed to take them on the plane!

I have up thru size 14 steel hooks. I've used the #7 the most. Have made so many doilies, wall hangings, etc. I have the first hook I bought....July 1971...Bates #1 steel hook....it's stamped 35 cents on it ! Several of my steel hooks have a little plastic clip on the top.....that is to hold your stitch so it doesn't unravel when you set your work aside.
The first things I crocheted when I learned was doilies.....& at that time (52 yrs. ago), there were no diagrams.....you just followed the wording. How-to was written out.

I am a physician, and I saved hard plastic covers that syringes came in, and they make perfect holders for crochet hooks. I also got a plastic tube that was a cigar holder, and it is perfect for the little steel hooks. More recently, M&M candy comes in rectangular canisters at Christmas, and I use those for my Clover Amour hooks that have thicker handles.

The smallest I own is 0.4mm, size 16. Don't know if there is any smaller? I've searched a long time for the smallest. 😊

I watched your video on fine crochet threads and now watching this one on steel hooks. Thanks for all the valuable information.
Can I, and what happens, if I find a pattern on a doily made with yarn, and decide to use the same pattern using #10 crochet thread?
Will it turn out the same but just smaller? Or is the stitch count completely different?

I think my mother bought the wrong size of the needle... As the seller said, it also can be used. I think it'll be a bit difficult.
Yeah it's really the wrong size 😓 need to find another
