What an insightful video... This makes me feel better about myself... I never play in a tournament, but I always feeling nervous when playing other people online... When you say that the other guy just playing the same game as you... It really hits me... I always thought that I have to try super hard to win, yet the other guy don't need much effort to beat me... Thanks for the video man.. Really appreciate this...
If you truly believe in yourself, you will never lose. Do not expect to lose because that will just make your chances of losses greater. Also, I love your voice and accent.
I've enteredTekken 7 tournament for the first time in my life like months ago (Even if it's not like a big tournament). It was intense and nervous seeing a lot of like pro player participating lol. I loss in the 3rd game but damn i am proud of myself learning by fighting high level player. Winning in a tournament is like number 3/4 to me right now. I'm more concerned on how to do in Tekken 7 term like punish your enemy, counter, doing the right safe move, doing the right side step, playing more cautious. I think that is the right goal for a beginner player who wants to enter a tournament or get good at fighting game.
At least you had the balls to participate. I get panick attacks and my heart rate shoots up like crazy when I get owned online on sf. I tend to stay away from completion unless it’s with friends.
I have seen a lot of highlight from fgc tourney but seeing from the perspective of participant it self really give a different insight. Somehow I can feel how tense the situation in there.
I'm just now getting into fighting games and have only played online I get nervous, being new to fighters. I can only imagine tournament play. I hope to one day play in a tournament. Good video as always!
I started by vlogging in places that were really quiet, then gradually tried walking from quiet places to busier environments while still talking. I rarely turn the camera on and start when I'm in the middle of a crowd :)
My first Street fighter tournament was in ...Indpls at a convention..lost my first match...the vibes are magnified..it's not til later where you are feeling the blows of should 've would've could've... reminds me of the arcade days
I went to an amateur Street Fighter V tournament earlier this year (for the first time). I didn't make it out of pools either (won 2, lost 3), but it really brought home what my weaknesses are in matches (if I win on the first round, I choke on the other two). It was a good experience.
ahh it's so cool seeing you in the same room with the players I watch tourneys lol. I haven't entered any yet, but Texas Showdown was the first tournament I went to ever and I volunteered for media there, it was really fun to be apart of it all and play casuals afterwards. Hope you keep it up!
Insightful video! I personally don't fight in tournaments but I know someone who does, so I can imagine the pressure. If it were me, hearing my opponent's buttons would just make me panic 😅 Also, I don't like that the guy tried to choose a level that, probably, would give him an advantage. Being a good player is also about managing on different levels. So I'm glad it went on Random. And you played well :)
First SFV tournament I entered was Evo Japan 2018 back in January. It was SO much more crowded than this. I mean, not just in the fact that there were more people attending and competing, but that the space wasn't quite proportionally bigger enough to compensate and there was almost no room to navigate between tables during pools. This TGS tournament looks to be much more comfortable, minus the audio issues. I wonder why they didn't have the sound on the monitors turned up so you could listen to the game audio without headphones if you wanted.
You mentioned there are 100's of people. Those 100's of people love the same kinda game as you do. Also good to hear your opponents buttons then make fake button sounds yourself.
Good on you for going to your first tournament. It’s a really tough thing to do for the first time, but once you get over the nerves, it’s a ton of fun. I went 0-2 for GG at evo, but it was still great.
It was a really cool video. It looks like a really fun experience, even if you don't do that well. Keep practicing so we can see you participate in another one. I hope you do a second tournament video in the future. It makes me feel happy to see a lot of people enjoying and playing the game in tournaments.
I remembered how bad my first local Tekken 6 tournament went lol. I did win 3-4 sets in my bracket (we were just around 50 players) BUT the people around me were laughing and taunting me whenever I lose or make a mistake. It was my first and last tournament because of the toxicity that day.
I'll be going to my first fighting game tournament next month and I'm pretty nervous about it. I've not had much tournament experience outside of playing MTG and I don't want to expect more than being 2-0 swept hard af but man it's hard to go in knowing you're gonna get blown up
Tournaments can be tough in general if you're not mentally prepared for them. I'm glad you handled it well. Btw, you should have bought the geese howard one, it looks amazing.
I went to a decently sized local tournament recently for dbfz, and after I got bodied my friend came over and said “yeah man it had to be somebody” and I didn’t know what he was talking about. Well apparently the guy that kicked my ass was a pro player named LPN. Granted he’s a street fighter player, but still, I was pretty shocked.
The button thing is true. I remember playing back in highschool and my friend hit a phantom button, i reacted and was punished. I didnt even realize I was doing it. At my locals for sfv one guy i cant beat, but facing him online I dominate.
I'm very sure that with the headphones, that grey box there separates the left and right channels, so you only heard the right channel audio, which is why you couldn't hear the opponent's character. I'm sure Capcom will realise this and not separate the audio channels in the next tournament.
I have my first tournament a few weeks ago in my contry the Fighting Fest in Dominican republic and went just like that 2 and all, but I feel quite good as well, my first match goes free AF, but my second I manage to win a match and at least look quite decent, it feel nice, both of my opponents despite use Birdie, both were super nice and congratulate me after the matches, been in tournaments is so different in some way to play in home, is quite an experience.
5:42, but he's got his own headphones plugged in, little earbuds and you can see them plugged into that little splitter device, there's the thin black cable of his headphones not the thicker green cable of those Razer ones.
Optimally if you listen to queues and the headphones work, I'd use them. If youre opponent is on stick and you have headphones and are side to side you lose the advantage of listening to buttons cause like you mentioned he could've been listening to yours. I've done it before it does work to an extent unless they're trying to throw you off with fakes. Props going to your first tourney though
Ah yes, I remember my first tournament. It was a few years ago for a smash bros. Brawl local. I made to the 2ND ROUND...then got destroyed in the 3rd... However, looking back, I guess it was pretty cool to win a match at my first tourney. I even learned what I was doing wrong and grew from both my win and loss. Considering the amount of awesome fighting games that came out, I may get back into fighting games again and even dedicate some time to Smash Ultimate.
The thing about tournaments is that you have to be semi-realistic about the situation. If you are a fairly new player with less than 4-6 months of experience and you aren't exactly progressing in the online ranked mode of the game you're playing, then chances are you will not do as well as you would like. The first step (for all players not just pros) to improve at your game is playing competitively online!
An actual tournament would be more difficult to win than playing online due to the game measuring your skill online, but when you play against top players, you see your weaknesses. But hope you enjoy your visit to the tournament.
Your opponent won because he still has that sweet Ryu artwork on his TE2+... 😛 Nah, I kid - your Asuka artwork is great. It must be especially satisfying since you did it yourself. 👍🏼

you need to practice confirming off of counter-hits and jump-ins and going into big damage! that will help. and also jumping less. make your opponent mess up. make them come to you sometimes. it does mental damage. there are a lot of options in training mode to play around with that can help you improve your game.

Don’t feel bad. My first fighting game tournament ever was on a MVC2 cabinet and I lost to the guy who got first place. He was a grown man and I was just a kid at the time but he wasn’t very nice during the match and kept cursing at me and when I landed a single punch on him he told me how he was going to end my life.
there is not much Fighting game tournament in my area or maybe i just don't know. I'm from Indonesia and the only tournament i know is Abuget Cup if i don't get it wrong. Traveling to Singapore is already kind of expensive for me, let alone Japan. Gotta be rich i guess hahaha.
they should redo the tournament because of technical audio difficulties which should have been reported to the judge immediately by more experienced tournament players. Which provides players with an edge by predicting opponent behavior by not analysing the game but real world sounds that the game cannot control to give another player an edge.
Although players who had their headphones on, had a less of a chance of analysing movements based on real world sound, it feels as if commradery or honour within the fighting game community is subdued to focus only on winning, rather than respecting each other and their accurate skill set in the game - i guess its with most competitive games
What place did Infiltration get at this tournament? I really think he can BEAT the competition and ABUSE bad habits of his competitors to make it to grands.
