I completely agree. While I like the Dawn Of The Dead remake Zack Snyder did it doesn't compare to George A Romero's original, but Night I've always loved the 1990's remake more and part of that Is because of Tony Todd.

@@seanhudson5090 I also enjoyed seeing Patricia Tallman playing a strong and smart woman. Bill Mosley having what basically was a cameo was memorable. “There coming to get you Barbara”. The irony of Tony Todd’s character finding the gas pump key after being shot and locked in the basement. Made me wonder if the a-hole family guy was right. If everyone holed up in the basement they might’ve found the key sooner.

People don't realize that the creative team responsible for making the first Resident Evil Game in the mid 1990's, cited this re-make as a huge inspiration for the design, and premise aesthetics for the Resident Evil game on Playstation.

As a lifelong RE fan and collector...I nearly only collect RE stuff ...when j was a kid. I used to play with my RE toys and watch this movie all the time. • @Krooksbane

That makes sense because the hallway music for RE1 sounds VERY similar to the music in the movie. Especially the scene where Ben is trying to lite his last cigarette, when he notices the gas pump key.

I agree with you. It's not woke because Barbara does not START out as a perfect, fearless, resourceful, proactive survivor. She's not a "Mary Sue" type character. She begins as quite the opposite, and probably would have been killed if she had not encountered Ben when she did. She has a realistic reaction to the initial zombie attack as she makes her desperate attempt to escape. We watch her slowly come around and build confidence throughout the film. She eventually becomes the voice of reason in the group, trying to de-escalate the constant bickering between Ben and Cooper, and proposes that they flee before they become overwhelmed.

It has an atmosphere unlike any other zombie movie out there, and I believe that like Jaws, with it being cut, that it was blessed with the "less is more" end result. Another thing I learned early on was to never use Rotten Tomatoes as a movie guide and do not listen to Siskel and Ebert and it has worked out great.

NOTLD 1990 is actually the first zombie movie I've ever seen, and it was definitely a great gateway to my love for zombie media. It's more visceral and real compared to the original, which had that artistic, unreal nightmare touch, but you can't deny the good story beats, which was present in the remake too. It's not bad by all accounts and I can only wonder how the hate was when it came out. Savini did a great job respecting the original film while adding his own touch. If you're a true fan of the original film, you should like this one too. Savini made this movie as a pure labor of love to the original and to Romero himself, the man that gave him one of his first professional jobs. But I like that it's enough of it's own film with it's own changes that actually benefits the story. Barbara is much better in this one. I feel it totally belongs with the Romero films. I feel this movie could be retold every 30 years like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The story has a relevance that transcends time. Or gets more relevant as time goes on. Because when you really boil those films down, it's about us. They're about society and where exactly humanity lays within it.

As far as negativity. Its a victim of a certain cynical mentality people generally have adopted the last few decades. They viewed this as a cash grab, and to a certain degree that's holds true. But if you pay careful attention to Patricia Tallman and Tony Todd's performances are artful and phenomenal.
As far as characters go,when viewing the original film, Tom Savini had little to work with and somehow came out with something much better than what the cult classic brought.

This was a worthy successor to the original. Both movies are great. I liked how Barbara was more than just a paperweight in the remake. I also liked how the subtle changes they made to the story kept you on your toes, especially who actually makes it to the ending.

    I love it because…
    a) I must have first caught this film on TV in the 90’s when I was kid and I was so scared!
    b) I didn’t know it was a remake until YEARS later (so I had no bias)
    c) It’s simple and scary!
It’s my favorite zombie film ever!

I grew up on this movie, in the age of double taping 😄 I wonder where it ultimately found it's audience? Word of mouth? Cable? VHS? All three?
Upon first watch, I might've been 10 or 11, I didn't even know it was a remake at the time, but it was one of those films that's so haunting, it sticks with you long after it's over. So, in that regard, it does it's job as an effective horror movie.
I haven't seen it in awhile & I could've sworn Patricia Tallman was a young Téa Leoni. Oops. 😅

I really like how this remake changed things in the story, adding some characters and changing the overall direction.
Because why make a shot for shot remake? Not much of a point there. And while one can also argue "why remake at all?", This version had the balls to flip the script and try to do its own thing.

IMO The movie as a whole is on par with the original. What this one (the 1990 version) has that is head and shoulders above the original are the performances. I will stand by my opinion that Patricia Tallman has the best performance of any female lead in any horror (don't confuse horror with sci-fi) film ever. And Tony Todd is just on the same level, both of their performances lift the film to an elite horror class. The rest of the cast is great as well, I HATE Cooper! So obviously I love the ending haha. I have loved this movie for 30 years, and I also love the original. There's just something about that original. Night of the Living Dead (1990) is one of if not the most underrated zombie movie, I think people write it off because it's a remake, BUT this is before remakes became garbage. This is one of the last great remakes along the lines of The Fly, The Blob, and The Thing. Anyone who writes it off as trash because it's a remake, it's their loss.

This Is one of the best horror remakes , Tony Todd's acting was outstanding , Patricia Tallman's too.
George was great at casting absolute nobodies and turning them Into horror Icons bringing out powerful performances ,
    - Ken Foree (Dawn)
    - Lori Cardille / Joseph Pilato (Day)
    - Tony Todd / Patricia Tallman (Night Remake).
All these actors carried each part of the trilogy on their own equally as strong , one role just as memorable yet different as the other. *The right casting means everything imo* , and If I had the option I would always use unknown or lesser known actors , that's the best way and nowdays the only way I can believably be Immersed and feel like the film remains the star. We're too oversaturated with A-list actors today , we can see them everyday on social media so there's no mystique anymore , which causes over-familiararity then you can no longer buy Into any role they play because you know too much who they really are now , but using good unknown actors keep things fresh with no previous mental frame of reference or biased pre-judgements.

If you're going to do a remake, this is the way to do it. Respect the original, but put your own spin on it so it isn't a pointless retread.. If you go the Gus Van Sant shot-for-shot Psycho remake style, you wind up with a film that has no reason to exist. Savini's remake keeps everything that made the first one a classic, altering it just enough to make it worth seeing. Loved the alternate ending this one provided.

This was probably the last decent entry into Romeros trilogy. I loved it and actually prefer it to the original. The twist with jhonny and barbs in the cemetery and the zombie attacking from the side of the screen was fantastic. And the zombie that was stuck in the ground with his back twisted was brilliant. I just wish that barbra and Ben survived and walked away into the night. I applause any zombie movie that's made where they make them walk slowly rather than turn them into olimpic athletes running all over the place like 99 percent of zombie movies made after the year 2000! Savini needs to make more zombie films.
