  • I want more recruits but I'm far to picky. It's tough to find Bloodlust and psychopaths who are hireable. So it looks like we will be raising some kids and hoping we can turn them into productive little monsters.

The whole "ate without a table" thing always makes me think of a Cyanide & Happiness comic for some reason. Its not one, but somehow i always envision one.
One guy in prison, talks about "you wont make me talk do what you will you wont break me!" and other guy tosses in a meal. Guy in prison looks around and goes "wait, i have no table to eat this at. Guard? GUARD!? WAIT! COME BAAAAAAACK!!!"

I'd actually suggest keeping that Proximity Detector inside of the base, and instead, build additional ones in various locations that overlap, so that Francis would then have a network of them to better pinpoint where invisible enemies are located, so that he could better deal with them using area-of-effect weapons such as grenades or flamethrowers.

A note on sightstealers: they work like manhunting animals. They won't break down closed doors unless they see someone go in them. Also like manhunters, max raid points for them is lik 50 sightstealers per scream. For containment, bioferrite flooring actually also gives a boost. Bioferrite isn't rare but it is very widely required. The Long Containment bonus actually makes the time between escapes longer.

    • @chaosstripe9446

Also, a note on creep joiners: most of their downsides show up pretty fast, even parasites give pretty obvious signs within a season. Halloway is either a no downside creep or a defector creep with a really long timer. The worst they'll do is decide to bugger off after a while, so don't give them anything rare. They won't shoot you in the back.
      Probably.

The image of a 3 year old child getting emancipated from slavery only to immediately be named WarMachine15500 or whatever is incredible. A total "you're giving this child sweets and telling them not to tell their parents" vibes, except their parents are probably dead or were the ones that sold them, so he's got some rage issues, and is probably kind of thrilled at the idea of being WAR MACHINE. The moment he can hold a gun, his dream (formed during his emancipation ritual) will have come true.

Peshet aimed carefully and shot the last standing sightstealer in the head. She grinned as it dropped. This fight had been fun. Affectionately, she patted Dumbshit on the head and said: "Good job." She didn't really know if he understood - maybe her research would find out one day - but he had been a good boy, so he deserved praise. Looking at the mess on the floor, she sighed. Somebody had a lot of cleaning to do. Good thing her kid liked helping with that. Come to think of it ... Peshet turned around and smiled. Then she walked over to the bed with the little lump in it. She sat down on the bed, careful not to jostle her baby girl. Then she pulled the blanked back up, which had been kicked half to the floor because her kid moved a lot in her sleep. Peshet smiled. Ah, kids ... they could sleep through anything.

Patty walked out the South door and hopped into the shuttle, letting out a long-overdue sigh of relief. "What is up with those guys?", she said to herself under her breath.
The forward chair swiveled around to face her, its occupant greeting her with a smug half-smile. The pilot; an imperial Lieutenant. Seeing the disheveled wreck in front of him as he slowly pulled his sunglasses up to his forehead, his smirk turned serious. He looked as if he wasn’t sure what it was his eyes were taking in. “Are you… ok?” he asked?
“Don’t Trust You, go do this, Don’t Trust You, go do that, Don’t Trust You, Don’t Trust You, put that gun down, DoN’t TrUsT yOu!” A single tear filled with fear, rage, and frustration rolled down Patty’s cheek. “You are drawn to some place by the Archotechs themselves to help some people in need and all they do is berate you and treat you like you’re the bad guy. I may be a bit of a psychopath, but these people are paranoid! I’m surprised they haven’t arrested me yet and fed my neck to Preshet, or my body to that ghoul, HAHAHAHA!” Patty erupted into psychotic laughter, which seemed to pierce the pilot to his soul.
“It’ll be a short flight back to base” he said with a faux smile, hand creeping toward his sidearm. “...and a long 15 days.”, pulling his sunglasses back over his eyes. He swiveled his seat back to forward, adjusting the camera to keep Patty on the view screen.
“You just can’t trust anyone here on the rim.” he mumbled to himself as the engine roared to life.

outside of an ideology that forbids cutting trees, the best use cases for the gauranlen tree are: a) you can have someone spend maybe three hours a day pruning it and get two free haulers that don't generate pollution, although they're not as hardworking as the lifter bot, or b) the moss that spawns around the tree has high beauty so you can plant it in an outdoor area where you need beauty and just not attune it to anyone.

I still can't believe that, while knowing there are invisible enemies who hunger for your colonists' flesh, you
    1) Keep the doors wide open all the time, and
    2) Keep the invisible things detector barely in reach of your front door
We at least can learn one additional valuable thing from this: Invisible Sightstealers do not appear to trigger floor traps. They may need a different type of defense line, though Dumbshit in a doorway is working fine for now. But who knows how many more of them come the next time? Because come they will.

As you've probably figured out by now, unless you have a use for a lot of twisted meat, the harbinger trees are a trap. You're much better off leaving a lot of corpses around (roofed, so death palls can't rez them) and then using deadlife dust to instantly raise an army of zombies to defend you. If you carry the corpses to the trees they get destroyed, and your zombie army is no more.

      @@ShadowWolfTJC Minor spoilers below.
There's only 2 entities that go invisible. Sight Stealers and Revenant. The first are the same as any other melee raider and can only enter your base through an open door. Worthless to have detectors anywhere but around a main choke point to give you time to door camp them. Revs, well they have their own rules and having a detector inside your base isn't gonna do much against them either.
The problem is having it inside your base. Gives no warning at all to outside threats and gives no clues to where a threat is till it's already inside your base looking to eat your face.
Best off having a ring of them on the outside of your base. You can get away with having just 1 at your main door as that's the only way Sight Stealers can reach you. Having more can help against a Rev, but Revs are just massive pains in the ass to deal anyway.

Unless you get the corresponding ideology traits, Gauranlen trees are indeed weaksauce (maybe you should do a full treehugger+stoner run?), but they're still useful for one thing: if you plant them near your crops, the dryads will put out any fires, even without any of your colonists having to waste time pruning / linking with the tree.

Technically you can automate feeding animals nutrient paste if you put their pen marker into a prison cell. When the warden will bring the nutrient paste to your prisoner, the animal may eat it first. It works best with large animals like horses, bison and muffalos because they have a bigger food capacity. Don't expect to be able to feed a large herd this way. One added benefit is that if your prisoner goes berserk, they have a dedicated target with them.

    Mod suggestions:
Compact Hediffs: Let's you see limb health as a health bar. Invaluable for knowing when your ghoul merely has a few dozen scratches, or when it's one lucky hit away from losing it's torso. Useful when tracking pawn health as well.
Learning Threshhold for Learning Job Fix: Makes kids seek learning opportunities when learning drops to 99%, instead of only when it drops to 90%. Makes janky time manipulation unnecessary for raising kids.
[777] Favourites: Let's you mark anything - be it a pawn, item, or building, as a 'junk' item or a 'favourite' item. Bills and storage zones can filter items based on their junk/favourite/unfavourite status. With my current setup, the smelter willy automaticall queue all smeltable junk items to be recycled, while all nonsmeltable junk items get hauled to an outdoor dumping zone. Favourited corpses are saved in the freezer, unmarked corpses get butchered if I'm low on meat, junk corpses get butchered immediately or dragged to a corpse trees. It is very handy for inventory management.
[1.5][KV] Save Storage, Outfit, Crafting, Drug, & Operations Settings: If you get tired of setting up bills every time, this lets you save bills and load them to workbenches. Very handy on nomadic playthroughs. Save bills before departing, then load bills at your new home.

Loving the vids Francis, and congratulations on 100k Subs! 🙂
A couple of thoughts occurred while watching this episode.
Don't forget to research the Death Rest caskets for Pershet, she's going to need one soon.
If you are still going to consider changing your religion to include raiding, remember how difficult that will be over the long winter months where your camp is situated...
Won't your pawns get a bit annoyed about NOT raiding over those months?

If you have a Revenant escape, you can use a shock lance on it to kill it instantly. They have insane hitpoints, and can easily wipe out your colony if you don't know how to deal with it.

Good luck with a mostly blind 500% FJ, I barely made it on 100%... with a fixed wealth scaling... normal raids were still under 2k threat points, but that finale was still brutal.
I'm looking forward to the shennanigans you come up with for your next playthrough. Right now you're focused on playing blind, getting into the swing of the story, and so forth, but once you know what to expect, there are going to be some fun challenges, exploits, and testing to do.

You read the "long in captivity" math wrong. The longer something is in captivity the longer it will take between escape attempts. So its better to keep things contained for longer.

    26:00 Gauranlen pod.
Require specific ideology. Allows "wood elf'ish" gameplay, where you only need treetenders for covering most of colony needs.
EXTREMLY effective for producing medicine. Very good on food front. Quite weak as mean of defence/attack, but still extremely cheap and expandable.
Main weaknesses: (A) pawn could tend only limited quantity of trees (you know, that stupid 24H limitation on the day's lenght...) (B) Tree destruction WILL break pawn's mood for a prolonged period (and yes - trees ARE flammable. Driads will do firefighting, but that will not save anyone from some stray doomsday rocket during a droppod raid...)
    1:08:30 "She is waster, unfortunally"
"Let's agree to disagree" (C) The best non-moded inheritable genotype.

Also a drawback is that the dryads can go insane and/or become manhunters, which is not a good thing to happen when small children are nearby. Generally the guaranlan pods are not worth it, unless you have a spare pawn with no other tasks who can "pray" at the tree all day long, unlikely I know, 'cos cleaning is a thing that never ends.

I feel like distrusting the random occultist that just wandered in is against the spirit of the blind anomaly playthrough - if we are taking psychopaths and bloodlusters, surely a bona fide occultist makes the shortlist?
Also, it's a shame that as far as I can tell, writing occult tomes isn't possible, because that would be a fun export.

I hate to say it, but I really think The Baby should get renamed back. His old name had a sort of ominous shall-not-be-named vibe that fit well. "Oh, and who's this little one?" "That's The Baby. We don't speak his name."

Small tip, if u atune the monolith to the next level it will change shape trapping your colonist with your current walls setup, u might should widen the area by 1x tile.
Also when i saw you fighting the bugs near the end, why didnt u use the hellcat burner :D they were all cramped at one little spot, FIRE IS VERY EFFECTIVE vs most anomalys, dont sleep on that!

I mean, if "Don't trust me" hasn't done anything by now, he probably won't. The Creepy Joiners do have a chance to have no downside. I'm not 100% on the full mechanics or if it's weighted. I've only had 2 personally and one did nothing, the other.. well, had to remove him.

I had one that was a super worker, but then developed "health problems" and didn't survive the next plague. I get the feeling its classed as a "too good to be true" mechanic and always ends up with some sort of backfire. May as well use them while you can though, getting them early is a pretty big boost to productivity. I have no idea what FJ rolled but everything in my gut is telling me that hes going to become a Revenant or equivalent critter somehow.

Hey John, the math doesn't work out that way, you figure out what the percentage chance of it not happening (.985 or 98.5%) and then times it by itself 100 times or to the power of 100 (in this case because 100 hours). So 0.985^(100) is about 22% chance of having no mental breaks

If this was a modded run Warmachine would be the ideal name for someone running around in a warcasket. A mechanitor commanding an army of war-machines would work just as well. Or they could be turned into a luciferium super soldier with the best gear, genes and bionics you have available.

  • @salemprompthous3820
    @salemprompthous3820 Місяць тому

    Some things about genetics that FJ skipped/skimmed;
Germline: genetically inherited. If an yttakin and a neanderthal have a child, the child will inherit some traits off both. It's also the category where bodysize, colour and hair colour lies, will be overwritten by implanted Xenogerms.
Xenogerms: genetically altered (a nice tech-tree section just for this), will not be inherited. Only way to "inherit" xenogerms is with the "Gene Implanter", included with "Vamp" genes. Can be extracted, but to implant without the "Vamp"-skill, they (all genes with the yellow markers) will cost special capsules.
Both germlines can be extracted into a dna bank.
