It has become apart of my Saturday routine to wake up and watch your video, Marcus! And I absolutely love reading all of the positive comments from everyone else who enjoys these as much as I do. Thanks for all the great content, and I’ll continue to be here every Saturday morning!
Really great update Marcus, thank you! My mind was blown when I heard about the Hubble rescue mission proposal. Talk about a game changer, Jared is the real deal isn’t he! And the whole dart mission and concept again is insane And we got multiple angles of actually seeing it happen! What???!!!!
If the asteroids orbiting satellite was slowed down by the impact surely it must drop toward a lower orbit. Will this become elliptical or will it crash into the asteroid and have an neven greater affect on it's path? And was this perhaps the idea? A potentiality dangerous idea?
@@aubreydebliquy8051 The predicted change was 0.4 millimeters per second (over 1/63 of an inch per second), decrease in the orbital speed. It's been reported that is will speed up the orbit time by around 15 minutes (~11.92 hr to ~11.67 hr). So a very small change. They wanted to do a small scale test to not mess with their orbit around the Sun.
@@steveaustin2686 I was referring to the orbit of the Comet's satellite which was apparently slowed down by the impact, or did I get that wrong? If it was a small satellite, the dart would have effected its orbit around it's host asteroid. I don't know the math. Surely if it slows down that defines a lower or more or less elliptical orbit? ... and at some threshold it no longer remains in orbit?
@@aubreydebliquy8051 Dimorphos is a rubble asteroid that orbits the asteroid Didymos. The pair are not Earth crossing asteroids and the closest they get to Earth is around 3,000,000 miles. The plan was to lower the orbit by a very small amount. The orbit is likely elliptical already, almost every orbit is to a small extent. There would be a point where Dimorphos could be flung out of orbit from Didymos, but not with such a small impact as this. And since Dimorphos is a rubble asteroid, it would possibly break up instead, if it was hit that hard.

Excellent recap, love catching up on the week's space news with you Marcus! The DART mission was a particularly fascinating one to witness this week! Keep up the awesome content!
Thank you for another great video Marcus. The DART mission in particular. I am so amazed that we can watch an asteroid from Earth being hit by a human made object. We are out there in space doing stuff and it's frickin exciting!

I think the DART mission represents the first mission that i've watched the launch and completion on your channel for. At least the first deep space mission
I love it with so much going on to hear about. Our space activity has gone crazy with SpaceX pushing in so many areas it drives everyone to have to work harder or be left behind.
Thanks Marcus, well done. Took my mind off my brother passing last week for a bit. Looking forward to your next deep dive. All my best to you and your team.
I live in a rural area in Oregon with no internet. We just got our starlink system up and running last week, and I'll say it's worth getting. It performs better than expected. Fast, consistent and no issues.
Congrats to Firefly! Hopeful that there will be some competition for SpaceX. Blue Origin must be feeling some pressure as 2 companies have passed them now.
@@MarcusHouse - Great Marcus. Besides technical progress, fun is an essential element for us as well. And just practical too; Artificial gravity is long overdue. Hey Hey @Marcus, I was looking forward to another Saturday video all week, so I was up before dawn for this one. Thanks again for you and your team's hard work.🤡 I'm looking forward to the next midweek video.
Marcus, I'd love to see an annual or quarterly summary of SpaceX activity in each domain, ie. all of the progress made on Starship in the past quarter. Another might be the progress made in StarLink in the past year. You give such extreme close-up videos on each burp in Starship activity, it starts to seem like little is happening. But a view of 3 months activity condensed into a 15-minute video would be fascinating. Have you considered hosting an occasional podcast with 1 or more guests from NASA or space officials? That too would be fascinating.
