Some have said because they didn't sell out for money and popularity to the record companies, probable true because record companies change your music and image to get top sales.
The record company they recorded for which was Columbia put little or no capital forward in terms of promotion. Hence Columbia had very little confidence in this unique brother and sister rockabilly act. No backing and poor management........
If you like Rock n' Roll, Rockabilly and good ol' guitar music, UA-cam's algorithms are gonna put some Larry and Lorrie on your feeds. This kid rocks the stage better than most head bangers today.
KISSING' TIME ! ! !
I am so happy to say that I met Łarry and his father, 1960 when they were at the New York State Fair, sorry that Lorrie eloped not given me the chance to meet her, fond memories.
Collins Kids - kissing time and I have this 45 by Bobby Rydell . Larry Collins he could play the guitar and dance around very good and Lorrie Collins she very good singer. Lorrie Collins she passway . Larry Collins he is 76 years old..... Rockabilly Music.
Surfin' USA was (as you put it) , was a knockoff of Sweet Little Sixteen. The Beach Boys were sued by Chuck Berry; a settlement was reached when he was given composing credit. Kissin' Time was totally unrelated. It was originally a hit for Bobby Rydell.
Johnnralph So sad to see that Lorrie Collins passed away last August. Many memories of watching her and Larry grow up along with me on Town Hall Party. I wasn’t on the show with them but we watched it every Saturday night from 1952 until the show ended in 1960. I’m just 4 years younger than Lorrie so the news of her passing hits really close to home. 😢 R.I.P 😔
Maybe because they're mainly sung cover songs. Perhaps the music industrie was not able to promote those singing kids to the young listeners. And also it be a reason, both of them were too young, too raw and maybe not professional enough, I don't know. I think, they were really great in the 50s - specially the "annoying" Larry was a wizzard...
Had they been a few years older, they could have ridden on Elvis's coattails. They came along, though, a few years too late. Mitch Miller at Columbia Records chose to market them as a novelty act as opposed to the prodigies they were. Lorrie came close to breaking through during a couple of years when she dated Ricky Nelson and did some Ozzie & Harriet appearances, but O&H put the brakes on their romance. She eloped at 16 with Johnny Cash's manager and got pregnant, which left Larry in the lurch and killed what momentum they had. By the time they were ready to get back into the game, the British Invasion had happened and a couple of rockabilly kids from Oklahoma didn't stand a chance.
@@actionsub The Collins Kids were on Town Hall Party(THP) on FEB 1954, doing pioneer Rockabilly, before Elvis released his first single on radio in July, 1954. Had the Collins Kids been at Sun Records, Sam Phillips would have rocketed them to super stardom; Columbia Records was the wrong place for the Collins Kids. Larry's & Lorrie's sister-brother rapport is magic, making them dynamite on stage together, and much more audience-entertaining than any other act of the day including Elvis. Collins Kids covers of popular songs, more often than not, move up a notch or two above the originals. The "Collins Kids" were effectively killed by Lorrie's sudden elopement to Stew Carnall (35) at age 16 on JAN 4, 1959 in Las Vegas. The elopement seems bizarre, as Lorrie was engaged to Ricky Nelson at the time, and she returned home to stay with her family on her wedding night and apparently did not tell them of the marriage for about 3 months, based on performances at THP. A Los Angeles Newspaper broke news of the marriage, probably on a tip from Stew Carnall, who wanted his wife living with him. Read chapters 6 thru 11 of "Johnny Cash: The Life" by Robert Hilburn. Lorrie's seemingly bizarre elopement comes into focus as a scared 16 year old girl's desperate path away from the pressures of an older married man obsessed with her. Lorrie seemed very mature at 16, but she was still only a young teenager, moving toward adulthood, and could not foresee that her choice would kill the "Collins Kids", cause a split with her parents, and deeply hurt 14/15 year old brother Larry, as his adored big sister seemed to turn her back on him. To his credit, Larry began reconciling with Lorrie within weeks, but the split with her parents would last years. In my eyes now, Johnny Cash, "the man" drops from 10 ft tall to less than 2. I still respect his work, but have lost 80% of my respect for "the man". I have immense respect for the 16 year old Lorrie, who refused being intimate with Cash, because, "he was married, she loved his kids, she was scared of their age difference, and she was afraid of all the lives they could hurt". Deep thinking for a 16 year old. (Sadly, Lorrie passed away from complications due to a fall in her home in AUG 2018 at age 76) Disgusting conduct for a 25/26 year old married man with children, to pressure and manipulate a 15/16 year old girl. NOT acceptable.
Song previously recorded by Bobby Rydel.... surprised Chuck didn't sue them... Sounds like "Sweet Little Sixteen" and other songs... Still LOVE these 2 !
+U.S. SAM All that trashy "rock" sounds all the same. Someone should sue them all for the assault of NOISE they call music. They can HAVE that "rock", everyone knows "Roll" is better.
U.S. SAM haha. I am installing a new stereo in my 69 GS convertible. my whole goal is to scare dogs and old ladies when I drive by. so far, I have 4 amps in it and a bitchin EQ. But, hey, I probably AM too old.

good to know ya. I think Raney is not so uncommon,Johnny Depp played a Mort Raney in a Stephen King movie. But nothing is cooler than a Chuck Raney or Rainey. Take care btw do you play bass? Betyter start learning if you dont., it could be lucrative.
They were very ahead of their time. Larry’s playing and dancing and singing was just way too much. If he and his beautiful sister Lorrie had been at Woodstock they would have ruled the world.

Why doesn't everyone know about this incredible duo?!? This is pure gold.
I've been a musician in bands since 1968 and I discovered them 3 months ago. It's crazy that I didn't hear of them long ago!
I am 64 and just discovered them. How did they not become more popular? RIP Lorrie.
Some have said because they didn't sell out for money and popularity to the record companies, probable true because record companies change your music and image to get top sales.
Watch Stagger Lee ..Great performance
They were hot in the 50's. They needed better management and better song writers. Can you imagine their covering like Wake up little Susie .

Discovered thanks to the gods of algorithms - 73 - from Scotland - so sorry it's taken me this long to discover the Collins Kids.
Lorrie Collins: the ultimate teen queen.

No other lo-ike Larry Collins.....the Master.
Larry Collins is so fun to hear/watch.
Am I the only one that discovered this gem today and been on a utube marathon with them?
I simply love them.
KISS did this on their first album. Now I know where it came from. Good stuff.

Rock at its best
Did Larry ever play the top neck?
The ancestor of Surfin USA
More like the illegitimate child of Sweet Little Sixteen.

Can anybody explain to me why these guys didn’t become mega stars ?

Your probably right about the lack of original material because everything else was present.

Too bad the technology of the day didn't have the ability to capture performances as well as today.

Mosrite, by Semie Moseley.
