- On a discovery to find the MV Dara, a shipwreck off the coast of the UAE which was the biggest naval catastrophe since the Titanic when it happened in 1961. The story of the treacherous event told by a survivor who was a 17 year old cadet on the ship before she sank to the seabed with 238 people. Guy in Dubai goes to find the wreck and dives deep to discover the secrets of the MV Dara.
Scuba diving with Divers Down off the coast off Umm al Qawain where the shipwreck can now be found. A lot of research went into telling this story and many archived reports were uncovered from the naval investigation. The story told from Ian Tew is his own account of the event that he was part of and may not represent the recollection of events of all survivors.
One thing is for sure is the story is a fascinating part of Dubai's history from a time before it became the bustling metropolis it now is, from the dying embers of the British Empire.

You did a great job here, as a Padi Instructor I have dived the Dara quite a few times starting in 1987, as you mentioned the currents make this an advanced dive rather then the depth. Fishing nets could also be a hazard. On one very special dive with no currents and superb visibility my dive buddy, one of my students said " it looked just like a Disney Film Set ! " The main mast was sitting on the Ocean floor . Yes on a good day a great dive does seem to be lot more broken up as I remember it but been a long time since I dived the " MV Dara" I once had a photo copy of a book that one of the passengers had written about their experience Save Diving Best regards
The current when we were filming this wreck was so strong it nearly washed us away... But what an adventure...
