I think the absurdity of Mess' vocals is my favorite part of dgd. How could it not be everyones with genius lyrics like "I couldn't wait to tap into the brain of my cat and let him know he's my widdle baby meow-meow-boo"
The dynamic between sing and scream lyrics in DGD has always been like that.
*DBM* - Jonny: "Bring back the fight tonight, all of these lies that I uphold for one false hope."
Jon: "Sit down, call off the cavalry, I'm stealing the jewels in a slow motion action replay. Bar fight, I invented chivalry, notch in my bed post, slow motion action replay."
*Deathstar* - Kurt: "If we could only be in different places, among the same faces we can't forget...in debt to the very distinction of love and hate; they're both in our hearts, we choose an imbalance. Oh, the thought we are the flaws that make us."
Jon: "I'm waiting to see if it comes to me or if it's tied to a safe that just hit the seafloor. Press the pressure point on my neck, my head will snap off and roll into the secret passage we built for escorting the rapist to the victim. Did you manage your time, do you know how I do? Downpour, downpour downpour downpour, oh the boredom involved in patience."
*Happiness* - Kurt: "When I stare at your face, are you even alive? We always knew we were never the best advocates."
Will: "holy fuck I'm impressed, too bad I don't have a pussy to plunge in as I sit here and stomach this. Here's a Nobel Prize, let's gamble our demise."
*DBMII* - Jonny: "Let's start it over, as I comb back and forth through the causes of my mistakes."
Jon: "you'll go far on the back of a potato making french fries in the snow. Then you'll steal, then you'll borrow, you'll be red, you'll be gold. Then you'll steal, you'll be right, somebody getting farther than getting to the better of the betting, alright."

Little do you know, Will Swan actually invented the guitar, just short after Jonny Craig invented singing and Matt Mingus invented the drums.
Inventing drums and a rhythm was essential for the band, since they didn’t know how to write any music with Jon's screams only, which were invented WAY back in time. Some say Jon's screaming technique was inspired by Dinosaur noises.

Also, if you're into swancore, Happy Hour, Pulses., and Cat Company all have that sort of sound. It's always interesting to hear how heavily influenced some bands have been by DGD
Matt Mingus is a legit drum wizard who’s as good at what he does, as Swan is at what he does. A lot of the reason DGD sound so great is the mind meld those guys seem to have between them. They transition between styles so effortlessly. I think the drums were a little double bass happy. But I can absolutely see this being a DGD song.

Joshua Whitley He was doing really well for a little bit which was the result of Slaves second album “Beautiful Death” which I believe a lot if not most/all of the songs on the record were about him trying to deal with what he had done while on drugs as well as dealing with the demons from his family life growing up. He was clean for around two years before relapsing again unfortunately

the first chord section, the “will swan chord” section, and the step seven chords are all the same chord. it’s a major seventh chord, very distinct to swancore yeet. hearing chords described in fret numbers is helpful for beginners but knowing an ounce of music theory would be nice 😅
