@@yeeaahhzz Pretty much seasonal. Water stops flowing during a hot summer, creeks become a series of ponds, oxygen levels drop, and the fish die off starting with the biggest first unless they are something like gar that can breathe some air.

Bowfin are protected in my state. I can't understand why people would throw a fish on the bank to die. Even the runt fish should be returned if you don't want to keep them
Because if they are invasive and kill other fish like Asian carp

As for Asian carp and things like that I get it, but I hope they humanly kill the fish.
The gar he mentioned earlier in the video where he put it back in the water and it swam away is also a native.

Great video! My first experience with a bow fin, he bit and shook my lure off three times. They’re absolutely insane.
My question is where the heck do you acquire all these trout heads lol? Never see you trout fish much. Are they store bought or do you hit trout streams off camera or are they just falling out of they sky? Good luck and tight lines!
You should find a place that has longnose gar, they are harder to catch with the long and bony mouth but it’s very rewarding. My PB is about 12 pounds and my average size is about 4 pounds

That 7.4 Bowfin was really great. I almost expected you to jump in with your net when it headed into those snags. You get so excited which makes it fun for us to watch. Man, people really need to learn that gar and bowfin are native the area and have a place in the ecosystem. Gar specifically don't really eat much gamefish prey species.
Right. Gar and Bowfin are native to these waters and part of the ecosystem, they keep everything in balance and actually improve health and size of game fish. Obviously, you wouldn't want to stock them in waters they weren't in before, but waters they have existed in for thousands of years benefit from their presence.

Tighten up your drag a little so it's not atomically releasing line when you set the hook. That may be why thy keep falling off. The drag flies off on every hook-set you get into in every video.
I have never caught a catfish before but really want to do you have any tips
Where im from everyone throws all gar and dogfish to the shore, and bowfishing and spearfishing outside ice fishing is strictly relegated to dogfish, carp, and dogfish (bowfin) my pb bowfin is 19p 4oz in Michigan got pictures but they didnt count for my record unfortunately

Great Video series. You have significantly improved your camera skills, editing, and oral/visual presentation. I love watching the pure joy that you express when fishing whether you catch anything or not. No foul language and super articulate. Because of your youtube videos, you have rekindled the fishing spirit in me that went dormant a long time ago when I was a kid growing up in the midwest. Now in Colorado, I've started to fish for trout, bass, crappie, wipers, bluegills with lots of success...all thanks to your inspiration as well as some really good fishing tips. I see some of your videos are of vacations to CO and fishing for trout. Come on back soon (maybe drive this time) and hit places like Urad lake, lake jackson (huge wiper), and South Platte river which are all 1-2 hours from the airport. Tons of trout and some places you can catch 30 trout an hour! "See you later buddy" :-)
Man, that lake you walked past to get to the spillway looked really nice. I would've probably worked that instead. But I know that isn't your thing. Everyone living west of the Mississippi understands your situation. All waters in the West are suffering from the drought. Our rivers/streams/creeks in Colorado are really low too. Most lakes are too low to launch a boat. Oxygen levels are low and fish are lethargic. Anyway, good video as usual, thanks and take care.
Always a good video thanks. I got to have a good day of fishing with my little brother. We went to the Coralville Iowa lake and only caught Crappies, Small Mouth Bass, Striped Bass , Bluegill, Catfish and Walleye. Oh and I snagged a Shad. LOL it was a good day but they made us work for it, and all the fish are still there.
I could use a recommendation for one of these modern back pack tackle setups. to date I've always been a Plano type guy, but when I go fishing back home in West Virginia it's quite a chore getting through heavy brush to good spots on the Little Kanawha River and some places along the Ohio, also the Rappahannock and Shenandoah in NorthernVirginia. these new back pack tackle setups seem ideal for managing rods through the stickers

Do your scales scale in metric (ie. 10ths of a lb)? Otherwise 3lb 9 would be a little bit over 3 and a half rather than a little bit under 4 (16oz in a lb)
(not to belittle your catch or anything, it was a great fish. Just seems weird to have metric imperial weights)

this is why we like 618 fishing. he never asks for likes, he never asks you to subscribe, and he catches BIG FISH!
Because of 618 we will dedicate this year to primarily spillway fishing, amongst mushroom hunting and ginseng hunting. With any luck all 3 will come together at the same time.
Try hooking your fish heads from the bottom jaw down and shank coming from inside mouth you will rarely miss any hookup even amongst the most cunning fish
Hi Nick, I realy like your videos and I think that you are the great fisherman and the great friend of nature.
But I have one thing that I don't like. This is the method that you are using for fish weight measuring.
The lip gripping device hurts large fish in 3 ways. First, it causes unnatural stress somewhere in the jaw/head region, by causing that one part of the body to support the entire weight of the fish. Second, it does not support the internal organs. In very large fish this could cause internal damage. Last, it hurts the fish's lower jaw at the point of contact with the pinching action, possibly damaging muscle, nerve, and skin tissue.
From my point of view, it is better to put the fish in the net than to measure it.

Not sure about the cut bait for bait? in IL and WI it is illegal to use game fish for bait. Ex bluegill bass trout crappie. You on the other hand have a unique fishing style you release the fish we leave on the shore to die . you use the game fish to catch the trash ? could you please run down your state fishing laws you tube might not condone your suspect fishing practices. Just remember all's fair to the GOD of suspect content?

You should be throwing those invasive fish on the bank too, they are all garbage. The carp wreck all the aquatic vegetation, eat fish eggs, gars and bowfin eat good fish. Throw them out.
Unfortunately they are lethargic from starvation and low oxygen in the pools your finding them in
