- Islam touches on stories and reporting of every kind - from foreign affairs and health to crime and education - which means journalists are learning how to provide better and more nuanced coverage of Muslims and their religion.
However... there's a long way still to go. A recent report into British media coverage of Islam and Muslims found shocking levels of misinformation, stereotyping and Islamophobia - almost 60% of the stories and 47% of television clips associated Muslims and/or Islam with negative behaviour.
How do we train and spur journalists on to engage in fairer and more responsible reporting? How do we encourage a greater sensitivity towards others while retaining objectivity? What are the steps needed to replace misrepresentation and generalisation with accuracy and fairness?
