I have the same truck with the 6-speed manual! I have a flash tuner for better fuel efficiency, and a MagnaFlow 5 inch turbo-back straight pipe for lower EGTs. I absolutely love how hellacious it sounds! Aside from the injection pump and steering box needing replacement at around 150,000 miles, I haven’t had any issues. Currently it has 335,000 miles, it starts right up every time and runs strong with no signs of stopping anytime soon! 😆🤙🏼
I have a 99 Cummins that’s stock with 185,000 miles. New injection pump, new lift pump, new five speed tranny and best of all absolutely no oil leaks anywhere!
God I wish my 97 was a 6 speed... It's base as base can get. No cruise control, 2wd, and a auto... Honestly been the most reliable truck I've ever owned though so I can't complain to much, and she's paid for herself time after time

Yeah they’re a blast to drive, i love a good ole cummins haha. And don’t really think the 5600 is recommend to float, although yes it can be done. Never really heard good stories about in standard picks until a pneumatic trans.
As a DOT employee, please be careful. I have nearly gotten killed many times standing by the cones and away. Countless assaults for slowing traffic to improve your highways and interstates. As a man, God I love that Cummins sound. Tis why I own two.

@@crysis0 the truck is on level 5 in this video & has stayed on level 5 since i installed it. I drive modestly even with it on, but it’s there when i need to pull into traffic, execute a lane change or something where a decent bit of throttle is required. The truck also has larger injectors too, so that will cause a bit more smoke as well.

Burnouts are hard on the clutch and can damage the entire drivetrain if something goes wrong, not saying it’s bad to do or saying you should never do burnouts, but it has that risk of breaking something
Like in the condition that it’s in? I would say 8-9k because it’s high miles. But it’s not and won’t be for sale. I’ll fix it up and keep it til i die. If it was in good condition, you’re easily looking at 12k+ with the prices right now, i wouldn’t be surprised if these loaded 6 speed trucks go for 15-18k

You do realize there’s an airdog on the truck correct? The VP is getting more than enough fuel pressure behind it to keep it lubricated & fueling with no issues. I never drop below 15 psi of fuel pressure.

Shit I’ve had much worse the 4th gen steering helps a lot, new steering box, i need to replace the bushing on the column & see if it’ll tighten it up

My abs module is bad & i also put a 96 axle in the truck when i bought it as the original 70 had a bad pinion. The lights drive me nuts lol

Ensure you have a good lift pump, feeding the VP a constant supply of fuel @ 15psi-17psi. Change oil regularly & check it weekly.

Can be a little noisy towards higher rpm’s, but at 70mph 2k rpm it doesn’t bother me. I just drove it to NC and back from Florida with a stack.

She’ll rip 40 psi but i don’t want to over boost the hx35, i usually keep it around 30-32 max

The steering is awful, it takes quite a bit of money to keep the 4 wheel drive trucks staying straight, the 2wd trucks drive/ride like a dream
