This is the best Berserk AMV I have seen on UA-cam 👍 Great song and edit for maybe the most complex and philosophical relationship we have seen in the world of imagination. Thank you so much for the delight!
Great AMV. Before I go any further I just want to say this is all my perspective on the story, I’m not trying to present any of it as fact. What really makes me despise Griffith other than the rape of Casca (I don’t actually resent him as much for sacrificing the Band for some reason, I think it’s because I often wonder what I would do in that situation, would I really be so selfless as to throw away my dream for this army, whom the majority are strangers?) is how little he appreciated what he had in Guts. Until that point he had lived solely for his dream. I’m sure he grew some attachment to Casca and other soldiers, but nothing that would make him seriously reconsider what he was doing this all for. I think he really loved Guts in a way he had never felt about anything before, not even his dream. And he blames Guts for that, he blames Guts for having him feel for him so much. And I think he did this even prior to his year of torture, Guts didn’t ask for Griffith’s feelings towards him yet he received all the negatives for it. Griffith liked to put on this persona of “I have no true friends” but as soon as Guts does something that would make him a friend in Griffiths own words he can’t bear it. He’s the one who wanted it, yet he hated it, nothing that Griffith has done to Guts has been Gut’s fault, it’s all Griffith. And when he becomes Femto he has supposedly thrown away all empathy and feelings for Guts. And this is where people will disagree with me. I think Griffith still has some attachment to Guts whether he likes it or not. I think Griffith will win everything, he will achieve his dream, I don’t know what interactions he will have with Guts if I’m being completely honest. But I think he’ll look around after he’s achieved everything, and feel absolutely nothing. He may have this ‘demon army’ to command, but none of them know or cared for Griffith like Guts did. Griffith in the end will have everything. But be left with nothing.
I'm pretty sure Griffith wasn't aware of his own feelings, not until Guts left according to his torture monologue. That's when he starts to hate and love him at the same time, a perfect example of those feelings would be when he is rescued and tries to kill Guts. But seeing him cry was enough to forgive and hug him back. Griffith not understanding his own feelings is also what makes his reflection on "Guts being the only one who made him forget his dream" so impactful.
