      Dogs are very different. They have been domesticated and have the ability to learn. Biting is an unwanted behavior that has been trained out of dogs, those that allow or encourage it reverse that training and create bad animals (or work animals) a pet that bites, is not a good animal and are usually euthanized, I don't know your circumstance maybe it was bad timing or something, so it was an accident. Which of course should be considered. I am glad you got back to it though. However, warm blooded animals cannot be compared to cold blooded ones, especially not predators. It just creates a very unreal thought process for ignorant people.

    • @Edward-Not-Elric
      @Edward-Not-Elric Рік тому

      @@amandastakeonit7402 No, there is no "reverse" of some sort of genetic training. They are instinctually inclined to bite. YOU have to TRAIN them NOT to bite. Domestication has made them more docile and easier to train, but it is not some sort of genetically learned training. It's a genetic predisposition to socialization and learning. Again, NOT inbedded training.
      Dogs can and will bite if not trained properly. It's in their nature.
      Also, alligators and crocodiles can also actually be trained to some degree.

    • @Ninang363
      @Ninang363 Рік тому +39

      @@amandastakeonit7402 Still, the animal must be understood in the situation. The animal can only respond as the animal can. We, as humans in assumed "Control" of the case need to account for that. Also, dogs seem to get imprinted with the emotions/reactions its owners. The pack leader influences the pack after all.

    • @Exquailibur
      @Exquailibur Рік тому +35

      @@amandastakeonit7402 Kennels can be stressful environments, its possible it was stressed and/or injured which can cause animals to lash out when they wouldn't normally. And its not a difference between cold blooded and warm blooded animals but a difference between domesticated and non domesticated and whether they are socialized. Alligators are of comparable intelligence to most mammals so they can definitely learn and I wouldn't blame any wild animal for doing what they do. Even with dogs it depends on their job and background, if its intended to be a family dog it needs to be very tolerant but if is a poorly socialized animal and needs work than it may need a second chance if the bite wasn't serious.
      Animal behavior is highly variable and circumstances matter a lot, for example there is a difference between a bull elephant who charges someone and an elephant that actively has a grudge against people or an alligator that bites one person and an alligator that actively seeks out people in the wild.

      While I mostly agree, there is always a degree of unpredictability with animals. We can learn a lot about them and get a good sense of what their typical behavior is and why, but we should be wary of absolute statements. It's important to maintain caution with animals, and not assume you know exactly what they will do, even when you are experienced with them.
      Just as a personal example, I bottle raised a sheep and I was basically her mom. Spent two years with her before she suddenly started headbutting me with no provocation. I had made no change to how I was interacting with her, and the other bottle lamb raised with her never started doing it either. I've since learned to recognize when she's thinking about it, but from my perspective it was a sudden personality shift. Whether there is a scientific explanation or not, I just wasn't able to predict that she would do that, even though I knew this animal since she was a newborn.

She had been aware of the risks and planned for the worst case scenarios so that when it happened she reacted as she'd visualized before- it's so important to have done this, so that she didn't blank out and panic. She was probably scared of course, but when we're terrified but we had a plan the brain kicks in on the plan because it can't THINK sometimes during that. it goes right to whatever you practiced or planned, the steps you know to take. She was READY so when there was an accident, she acted, and was able to survive! Luck, great friends, and preparation! As a horse person, I totally get the idea of continuing to work with animals that hurt you and not feeling remotely traumatized. The worst thing about an animal attacking you is if the attack was caused by some medical problem/pain the animal felt; the second worst is if other people see you and judge . . .

      yeah this, i have the disagreeable honour of falling off every horse I have ever been placed on top off. I have never had riding lessons per say, more the guided experience stuff but I have done it like 10 times now and its 100% a me problem at this point. The only one that wasnt really my fault was when i was a little kid, something spooked the horse and i guess the handler didn't either get on it quick enough or was simply unable to stop this freaked out bolt machine that weighed more than she did but I did get moderately trampled on I guess it set a bad precedent or something. Not once have I ever blamed the horse. My parents didnt even blame the horse.

      We had 2 paint horses when I grew up… (They were REALLY my older SISTER’S horses!) The second horse, Ramjet, was a young & wild horse that I was forced to ride so she wouldn’t be alone.
      Her horse, Raingo, was a huge A$$ & would bite my horse on the butt so I would be bucked off!!
      I was TERRIFIED of those horses, & boy did they KNOW IT!!! They would see me from across the field & literally CHARGE at me as I ran to the barn for safety!!!
      One time they knocked me down & literally trampled me!! I crawled to the barn & layed there for a couple of hours before my sister came looking for me, & carried me to the house so my dad could take me to the ER. I ended up with a broken collarbone & TONS of stitches in my leg in the shape of nearly an entire horseshoe! (I still have a huge scar!!) My entire body was bruised, & the hospital thought my dad had beaten me!! (He didn’t!!)🙂

I love crocodilians and do not blame them at all. I agree with what Lindsay said, (goes for sharks too) you can't blame the gator, it's doing just as you would expect it to. It does what it's engrained to do, you can't undo 80 million years of evolution, that has told these animals how to get it right. We can influence individuals and maybe even breed them down to more gentle, easier to work with creatures, but we cannot in decades and even centuries undo 80 million years! She's a real champ, those that aidded in her rescue are champs too! I am super glad that Scales and Tails didn't shut down or get rid of Darth Gator or Lindsay! I hope those kids are okay and they have came back. I am also glad that Lindsay mentioned his jaw, because I was wondering about it. Do they have UVB lights on him at all? Surely they can get some that they can raise and lower as needed. It isn't able to be fixed but it can be prevented from getting worse. Whole animal diets are important too.
