If _you're_ getting lag spikes after loading shader cache still because your CPU is outdated, then *I* definitely will have problems trying to run _any_ switch game on the laptop. I just wish there was like an option to load all the cache before you open the game (Like what Dolphin emulator has) that would help my laptop considerably.
you are wrong tho, because he is building the cache that is why it freezes a bit, and yes you can skip the freeze and building your own cache by downloading someone else's but this is not the case.
Here are some points i would like to add -since yuzu and ryujinx load shader caches you need to load them as you said, however,to have an initially better performance, both emulators have an option to make the emulator load shader cache without “remembering” the shaders so the game will overall run smoother the first time but it won’t be better next time -another thing emulator helps for is the accessibility of it,for example, while there was a mod that allowed to use different controllers on the switch (which i’m pretty sure doesn’t work now) by itself you are limited to first party controllers and weird third party controllers, however on emulators you can use pretty much anything -while other emulators have constantly been getting better and better over the years since yuzu (which was not the emulator used in this video) is a bit inconsistent,it’s not unusual that there are minor or big glitches during the game, ryujinx is much more consistent however it has slightly worse performance -you can get shader caches from other people to have an initially better performance, however it can be hard to find shader caches for new games That’s about it,i agreed with most of what you said in this video
You can do it much faster in hdr than he showed off, and much faster than base game even with perfect l-stick tilts. And it is useful in this game, that'd be like saying dash dancing in melee is useless.
"Unless you have a really keen eye you wouldn't notice that this Smash has been modded" Dude that Falcon Punch came out YEARS earlier than vanilla would there's no way people wouldn't notice Also Steve turning red but come on
This video was really cool! I love that you left so much to test out as part of the video and it got to feel like we experienced it alongside you! (Even tho this was already recorded obviously)
btw you can dash dance in vanilla ultimate, like, extremley fast with every character. you have to be very good at mashing the control stick fast and i reccomend using the palm of your right hand to do it but its pretty easy.
If you experience constant lag on your TV, you can try setting it to game mode, or changing the response time in the settings, some TVs change the response time when you set them to game mode. Also you can download 100% saves on emulators to unlock all characters on Smash Bros for example.
There’s ways around no c-stick support. Kinda weird ik but if you really want it you can use something like xpadder to map “forward” and “A” to a single directional input.
One thing to keep in mind with 4k on UA-cam on the point made at 2:40 Bitrate is also an immense determining factor on the "quality" of an image (which is also incredibly murky when you get in the weeds) UA-cam 4K has a much higher bitrate, meaning that even not factoring your point on pixel compression it will automatically look better on busier forms of video.
If I had a very buff PC, I would use it for modding and I wouldn't be surprised if Smash Ultimate gets the Slippy treatment in the far future because how far modding has come in a somewhat short period of time compared to Brawl and Melee.
stay in a game walking around for 20 min, beat the cpu, challenge a new character (win to unlock), home screen on character select screen, exit game. start game, play a cpu, beat cpu, challenge a new character instantly (win to unlock), home screen on character select screen, exit game. repeat until roster is unlocked. learned this from a video ZeRo uploaded around the release of ultimate. i used it when i first emulated ultimate actually lol (which was actually before buying, and then i did the same when i did buy it), and because i did it at the start, i was downloading all the shaders for every scenario as i was playing and unlocking each char. a great way to gain shaders is to do what you did towards the end as well a couple of times but with a bit more to it. max out on cpus with cpus only and no player, play a big stage with hazards on, have all items on, and have the game last for a while until it runs smoothly. then do another with completely different cpus and a different stage. after 2 or 3 times it should run smoothly. also just run through a few common stages with various characters for a bit, then after time youll just gain necessary shaders without knowing it, especially if its with friends...
I agree with most points in this video other than the less input lag on emulation, because that is just not the case emulation 99% of the time will have more lag than native hardware because an emulator is essentially a system running inside another system which results in more lag, compared to the game running natively on real hardware. Theirs many reasons as to why u think theirs more lag on switch than pc one reason being the monitor u are using. For example if ur using a 4k screen than the switch would likely have more input lag than ur pc cause it outputs at 1080p so the screen has to downscale the resolution which results in more lag than 4k on ur pc.
I heard Dolphin has less input lag than real hardware, idk if that's true and if it is then it could be the case you mention about TVs downscaling the resolution
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but if you're using a Mayflash adapter, switch it to Wii U mode and look up Delfinovin. It's a program that allows a Wii U gc adapter to spoof as an Xbox 360 controller. It also works as an input viewer and you can tweak trigger and stick sensitivity. Hope this helps homie
I was gonna say for the first third of the video, I was like “Huh the camera looks reaaaallly good, different than vanilla Ult. Almost looks like HDR. Wonder if Yuzu is making it look like that” You bastard lmao
I filmed professional wedding videos for years and would shoot in 5k and scale down to 1080p in post. Hollywood films are shot in 8k maybe more now, and scaled down to 4k. It definitely makes a difference.
I think everything looks cool here, but my only problem is how slow knockback goes. The biggest problem I’ve seen with older smash games is that you never truly feel an impact from the super strong hits because they send the opponent so slowly. I feel ultimate on the switch is at just enough knockback speed that it doesn’t remove some responsiveness when playing but it’s also fast enough that when you get sent to the blastzone, you’re there in a second and then either out of hitstun or in the blastzone.
the reason the resolution changes matter on youtube even without a 4k display, is because you are aftually viewing a higher bitrate. bitrate is often more important than reaolution for resolving the detail of an image, especially on smaller displays.
i have this on Yuzu and it sucks. Always has stutters or frame pacing issues even after full shader compilation no matter what settings or render settings you use. Is Ryujinx better at smash? It just runs "ok" on Yuzu
Yes! You can download someone else’s cache from the internet and preload it so it doesn’t lag like that. However, every time there’s an update things can change. The last thing I would like to add is when you have a large amount of shaders to preload, the game takes forever to launch. This will get better with time but some people have reported waiting 10 mins for Smash to open after launching it lol
A point about 4K and higher resolutions. We are approaching a point where technical specifications exceed the point in which humans can reliably perceive them. You have to be sitting very close to a fairly large TV to begin to get an actual benefit out of 4k. Most people will not be able to reliably tell the difference between a decently sized TV at 1440p and 4k. The pixels are just too small. It is one of those things people try to tell you is worth it while their face is 6 centimeters from the screen. As for framerates there isn't any studies to suggest humans can really perceive much FPS. There has been quite a few studies on the topic but the core of the problem is that your brain can't comprehend the speed at which the images are changing (and doesn't try). We can very clearly see hz or a frame-rate up to 80. A light flickering at 80hz will flicker to us but more than that it will look solid. There is however evidence to suggest while we can't perceive the difference something in our brain is picking up on it. Humans can accurately guess frame-rates up to 150 and data from CS:GO seems to suggest that the higher the frame-rate the better your results (with dwindling returns but this could just be an artifact how the game runs). While this may seem similar to the 'lol can't see over 30 FPS anyway' there is some truth to the matter that we do have a cap on how many images can be flashed in front of our face before we stop seeing them change. And in fact some technologies over the years have taken advantage of this fact. All of this is to say that don't feel pressured over future technical specifications. It is a waste of your money.
IMPORTANT POINT: You can download SHADERS from other users to reduce the issue and if you have a more modern gpu you can use VULKAN which wont lag the game as much when its building new cache.
I could go on and on about the benefits of emulation assuming you have decent hardware: -TONS of save files -You can take other people’s save files so you don’t have to unlock characters or if you want to go back to a certain part of the game -FPS is more consistent -Better resolution -Mods are easy to install after setting Yuzu/Ryujinx up -Online (Recent development) and it’s still being improved upon. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being better than the Switch’s at some point. I could go on! It’s all only going to get better from here! 👍🏻👌🏻
*Here's how to unlock the characters faster.* It may be different with the mods. Anyway, go to Games and More and there will be a glowing door at the bottom right of the screen where you can face previously fought characters. And if you need to complete matches to face new opponents, just do a one stock match. I think that inflates the counter.
14:48 nope the amount of times i've seen emulator devs refuse to add certain things because "they're too outdated" or "no new pc supports them anymore" is enough to make me want to learn coding and make my own emulators
bruh it's open source.. if you don't like something or want to add something to the project you can or you can fork it yourself. Learn to code and you'll understand your issue is not an issue.
Never? Really? There are ps4 emulators rn. Still very shoddy but it's nothing to be surprised about. Switch was probably easy af since the wii u was already done.
the craziest lag of shader caching stuff for me whas when the inkling in his map threw paint at my captain falcon, the game literally froze for about 30 seconds then came back like nothing even happened
So if you don't know: Smash Ultimate has some pretty heavy input delay (I don't know the number offhand, but I think it's around 6 frames of delay) Playing this on emulator would remove that and make the game feel more responsive.
At 2:21 at a certain point not much people will care about super smash brothers ultimate and I don’t think upping the resolution will do anything. I think part of the fun in living is that nothing will ever be permanent and trying to “future proof” something that was already meant to be a limited experience will just cause more headaches then needed. But that’s just what I think.
Actually upscaling emulated games is different then just watching something in 4k. The internal resolution is independent from your screen resolution. If you ever have played an emulated game, let's say 3ds, and upscaled to whatever the highest resolution is, regardless of what screen resolution you have, it's going to look infinitely better.
I really like all the positives of having Ultimate of PC, especially in like, 10 years, but personally, the whole thing isn't how I would want to play. The individual 4K changes are cool, but most else isn't my cup of tea, but it is so cool for those who really want these changes.
16:38 I do something similar too this but not quite. Whenever I play more than 4 player smash, i'll just be worse for some reason. It could be because 4+ player smash is just too chaotic.

you are wrong tho, because he is building the cache that is why it freezes a bit, and yes you can skip the freeze and building your own cache by downloading someone else's but this is not the case.
Huh??? Didn't he say in the video that his game may lag a bit since his CPU is a bit outdated tho???
Yeah, I just checked the video again. Around 18:35 he says that.
*Talks about all the great things it can do* then
“Let’s discuss the negatives. There’s occasional lag…”
*and immediately back to more positives*
Here are some points i would like to add
-since yuzu and ryujinx load shader caches you need to load them as you said, however,to have an initially better performance, both emulators have an option to make the emulator load shader cache without “remembering” the shaders so the game will overall run smoother the first time but it won’t be better next time
-another thing emulator helps for is the accessibility of it,for example, while there was a mod that allowed to use different controllers on the switch (which i’m pretty sure doesn’t work now) by itself you are limited to first party controllers and weird third party controllers, however on emulators you can use pretty much anything
-while other emulators have constantly been getting better and better over the years since yuzu (which was not the emulator used in this video) is a bit inconsistent,it’s not unusual that there are minor or big glitches during the game, ryujinx is much more consistent however it has slightly worse performance
-you can get shader caches from other people to have an initially better performance, however it can be hard to find shader caches for new games
That’s about it,i agreed with most of what you said in this video
9:05 you can indeed do this in the base game, even faster than you showed for HDR, but I'm pretty sure it's useless (in base) aside from mixup
You can do it much faster in hdr than he showed off, and much faster than base game even with perfect l-stick tilts.
And it is useful in this game, that'd be like saying dash dancing in melee is useless.
"Unless you have a really keen eye you wouldn't notice that this Smash has been modded"
Dude that Falcon Punch came out YEARS earlier than vanilla would there's no way people wouldn't notice
Also Steve turning red but come on
This video was really cool! I love that you left so much to test out as part of the video and it got to feel like we experienced it alongside you! (Even tho this was already recorded obviously)
btw you can dash dance in vanilla ultimate, like, extremley fast with every character. you have to be very good at mashing the control stick fast and i reccomend using the palm of your right hand to do it but its pretty easy.
not as useful as being able to dash dance during any point within initial dash tho
@@theluigifan42 you are able to.
Like, if you mash the stick fast enough, you can cancel the initial dash
@@theluigifan42 oh okay I get what your saying now.
If you experience constant lag on your TV, you can try setting it to game mode, or changing the response time in the settings, some TVs change the response time when you set them to game mode.
Also you can download 100% saves on emulators to unlock all characters on Smash Bros for example.
There’s ways around no c-stick support. Kinda weird ik but if you really want it you can use something like xpadder to map “forward” and “A” to a single directional input.

competitive 3-player smash is actually a lot of fun
One thing to keep in mind with 4k on UA-cam on the point made at 2:40
Bitrate is also an immense determining factor on the "quality" of an image (which is also incredibly murky when you get in the weeds)
UA-cam 4K has a much higher bitrate, meaning that even not factoring your point on pixel compression it will automatically look better on busier forms of video.
"I didn't want you to know the game was modded until the big reveal"
*Proceeds to dash dance at the beginning of the video*
If I had a very buff PC, I would use it for modding and I wouldn't be surprised if Smash Ultimate gets the Slippy treatment in the far future because how far modding has come in a somewhat short period of time compared to Brawl and Melee.
7:30 "this is not something you can't do in smash ultimate"
Kazuya Mishima: *laughs in D O R I Y A*
Smash Ultimate has 6 frames of input lag on the Switch. The lack of lag on the emulator can actually hurt you if you play competitively.
How much input lag can one expect on the pc with an emulator?
@@manueldiedrich6139 depending on your PC, it can be 0
well, if you're looking for more smash ultimate mods to play, me and some friends made a sequel to tr4sh :)

stay in a game walking around for 20 min, beat the cpu, challenge a new character (win to unlock), home screen on character select screen, exit game.
start game, play a cpu, beat cpu, challenge a new character instantly (win to unlock), home screen on character select screen, exit game.
repeat until roster is unlocked.
learned this from a video ZeRo uploaded around the release of ultimate. i used it when i first emulated ultimate actually lol (which was actually before buying, and then i did the same when i did buy it), and because i did it at the start, i was downloading all the shaders for every scenario as i was playing and unlocking each char.
a great way to gain shaders is to do what you did towards the end as well a couple of times but with a bit more to it.
max out on cpus with cpus only and no player, play a big stage with hazards on, have all items on, and have the game last for a while until it runs smoothly.
then do another with completely different cpus and a different stage.
after 2 or 3 times it should run smoothly.
also just run through a few common stages with various characters for a bit, then after time youll just gain necessary shaders without knowing it, especially if its with friends...
Got Ultimate on PC and invited a friend over to play. It was a very fun time

@tmkai607 hey bro I'm a first time modder can I pay u to teach me?
When servers go down people have modded online services work though modded consoles. Mario Kart Wii is the most popular one that comes to mind.
16:00 I can admit, whenever the number goes over 4, I spam neutral B whenever I play Sora or Sephiroth
i feel like a huge issue you glossed over is the inability to use the c-stick. will that be fixed at a later date?
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but if you're using a Mayflash adapter, switch it to Wii U mode and look up Delfinovin. It's a program that allows a Wii U gc adapter to spoof as an Xbox 360 controller. It also works as an input viewer and you can tweak trigger and stick sensitivity. Hope this helps homie
I was gonna say for the first third of the video, I was like “Huh the camera looks reaaaallly good, different than vanilla Ult. Almost looks like HDR. Wonder if Yuzu is making it look like that”
You bastard lmao
Its all fun and games until nintendo raids your house 💀
I filmed professional wedding videos for years and would shoot in 5k and scale down to 1080p in post. Hollywood films are shot in 8k maybe more now, and scaled down to 4k. It definitely makes a difference.
my dude, smash switch does NOT look like that in the thumbnail.
HDR Mod Maker here, nice showcase of the mod 🐐
I think everything looks cool here, but my only problem is how slow knockback goes. The biggest problem I’ve seen with older smash games is that you never truly feel an impact from the super strong hits because they send the opponent so slowly. I feel ultimate on the switch is at just enough knockback speed that it doesn’t remove some responsiveness when playing but it’s also fast enough that when you get sent to the blastzone, you’re there in a second and then either out of hitstun or in the blastzone.
2:09 "some of you might be watching this on a 4k display"... Me watching this on 720p as default on UA-cam
wow I really enjoyed watching the video good shit
the reason the resolution changes matter on youtube even without a 4k display, is because you are aftually viewing a higher bitrate. bitrate is often more important than reaolution for resolving the detail of an image, especially on smaller displays.
Ok what emulator are you using and where did you download the rom
(Base game, and how do I add custom skins)
Yuzu, and you can't download roms, thats piracy
“Please don’t call me old” after making an old joke
Me: “old”
i have this on Yuzu and it sucks. Always has stutters or frame pacing issues even after full shader compilation no matter what settings or render settings you use. Is Ryujinx better at smash? It just runs "ok" on Yuzu
12 seconds in and Nintendo is already sending an entire SWAT team dressed in Nintendo character gear to seize all your gaming equipment
I been playing smash on PC with my brother for 2 years, runs too smooth

"some of you may be watching this on a 4k display"
me: kisses my own bicep
Would it be feasible to pre-load all assets on first startup?
Been playing it on steam with a friend, works like a charm
Who's here after the sad shutdown of yuzu and citra?!
It is a waste of your money.
u r right bro
Kinda crazy that the 8 player smash just looks like a normal ultimate online match
It still surprises me how this vídeo wasn't taken down by nintendo
Ryujinx is honestly a lot better than yuzu in terms of performance and graphics, seem the only problem is the long ass startup
ryujinx has been better for a real long time, i boggles my mind how its barely known and all you hear about is yuzu
@@metroidcypher Honestly I should've known about it sooner since it's a lot better besides the long startup
Long startups? mine just skips the loading screen and my laptop is just a midranger
IMPORTANT POINT: You can download SHADERS from other users to reduce the issue and if you have a more modern gpu you can use VULKAN which wont lag the game as much when its building new cache.
Nice. What site do you download the shaders from?
@@notafed2868You did it?
I could go on and on about the benefits of emulation assuming you have decent hardware:
-TONS of save files
-You can take other people’s save files so you don’t have to unlock characters or if you want to go back to a certain part of the game
-FPS is more consistent
-Better resolution
-Mods are easy to install after setting Yuzu/Ryujinx up
-Online (Recent development) and it’s still being improved upon. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being better than the Switch’s at some point.
I could go on! It’s all only going to get better from here! 👍🏻👌🏻
Online is gonna be better than the switch by the end of the year, NSO is crap
That Wii U portable concept pic actually looked really cool 😥
*Here's how to unlock the characters faster.* It may be different with the mods. Anyway, go to Games and More and there will be a glowing door at the bottom right of the screen where you can face previously fought characters. And if you need to complete matches to face new opponents, just do a one stock match. I think that inflates the counter.
I'm crazy about emulation.
It's so fantastic how they managed to make other gamesystems work on your pc
This looks like it runs way better than Yuzu. At least on my pc lmao
X2
1:50 "Mind-boggling effects" 🤣😂
14:48 nope
the amount of times i've seen emulator devs refuse to add certain things because "they're too outdated" or "no new pc supports them anymore" is enough to make me want to learn coding and make my own emulators
bruh it's open source.. if you don't like something or want to add something to the project you can or you can fork it yourself. Learn to code and you'll understand your issue is not an issue.
I’m mindblown how Nintendo hasn’t taken this down yet. Cool video
i never thought we would be able to emulate the switch, i am actually flabberghasted
IKR. Isn’t technology amazing
Never? Really? There are ps4 emulators rn. Still very shoddy but it's nothing to be surprised about. Switch was probably easy af since the wii u was already done.
@@tumultuousv imagine when ps4 emulation gets good though. bloodborne will finally come to pc one way or another
the craziest lag of shader caching stuff for me whas when the inkling in his map threw paint at my captain falcon, the game literally froze for about 30 seconds then came back like nothing even happened
So if you don't know: Smash Ultimate has some pretty heavy input delay (I don't know the number offhand, but I think it's around 6 frames of delay)
Playing this on emulator would remove that and make the game feel more responsive.
I was wondering if someone could take the input buffer off 😬
How i remove the input lag? On yuzu i have input lag
Idk man, you asking what's the reason for emulation when the graphics are visually better to me was hilarious LOL
I really like all the positives of having Ultimate of PC, especially in like, 10 years, but personally, the whole thing isn't how I would want to play. The individual 4K changes are cool, but most else isn't my cup of tea, but it is so cool for those who really want these changes.
2:45 I'm going to level with you and say that there's absolutely no difference I can observe here
Because it’s on UA-cam
Looks freaking beautiful.

I'm very shocked to see how ryujinx and yuzu developed throughout 2 years heck most of the games are glitchy even the shadows are weird
Yeah I've been watching it develop since games weren't really playable, it's crazy how switch games are now playable on launch day using Yuzu.

16:38 I do something similar too this but not quite. Whenever I play more than 4 player smash, i'll just be worse for some reason. It could be because 4+ player smash is just too chaotic.
😂 Nintendo's all pissed about emulators because they do a better job of running their software than their ancient piece of e-waste does.
As a video professional- you’re correct, HDMI is inherently laggy. SDI with BNC connectors is a preferred connection for that exact reason
