the ending scene when aang opens his eyes at "history has its eyes on you", it's fitting because there are generations of avatars living within aang so generations of historical figures literally had their eyes on zuko
@@xLadyoftheHousex I'm sorry I have to burst the bubble, but Ozai is far worse. Open your eyes, he had hurted you, too. The ones who truly cares about you is your mother. Go find a good doctor in the Fire Nation, who can help dealing with your insanity. Edit: plus, it's Ozai who turned you into a monster Off character: man I love these role play ppl giving us a chance to "talk" To the characters in person lol😂😂😂
When you think about this being Iroh who's telling Zuko all this that history's watching...damn. It's very true and not just because he was from the royal family of the Fire Nation!! His mother committed treason and murder to protect him, Zuko became a master bender by HARD WORK and his difficult life growing up, was in exile for years looking for and trying to catch Aang, eventually frees Appa which triggers a change in him, teams up with his psycho sister, switches to Team Avatar becoming Aang's teacher and friend, learns the real "trait" of firebending from the dragons, takes on and beats his sister with Katara's help, becomes the new Fire Lord, goes through even more craziness post war, and eventually founds the city neutral zone with Aang....phew that's a mouthful.
It really is interesting that we never see the moment where Iroh called off the siege of Ba Sing Sei and all we know is that it was soon after his son died. I like to imagine that after Lu Ten died, Iroh stopped and looked around at all the soldiers in his command. All of a sudden the stopped being just soldiers, but the sons of parents who might never see them again. And for what? The conquest of Ba Sing Sei? Why was that important? Why was that worth throwing away the lives of all these young men, these sons of now shattered families? And that's when he realized in the big picture of things, the war was a 100 year mistake that should have NEVER happened. And that's why he called off the siege. This animatic I think really captures that moment and that feeling. What turned Iroh the feared general and the "Dragon of the West," to Iroh the sage and mentor of the next generation.
Somebody explain why I started wanting to cry when Jet showed up at 'who dies'. I suppose he's at least better than Yue, the only other character who died on screen. That would have made me ugly cry instead of just sniffles.
I cried too! I think it was because, whatever else he did, he was ultimately just a kid in a war torn country who died far-far to young… I agree with you about Yue though
Fucking CHILLS at lives/dies/tells your story. In cross-fandom animatics with this, it's always my favourite part because of the sheer amount of symbolism you can fit into a few lines. Masterfully done, all round.
If I had a nickle for everytime I saw an A:TLA animatic based on "History Has Its Eyes On You," I'd have... Well, 2 nickles. Which isn't alot, but it's weird it happened twice. For real though, fantastic work.
Ok, first of all, LOVE IT!! Just great, 100% perfect! But... I can't not imagine Zuko singing this to Aang. I mean, he made all mistakes, all for glory - to win his father's love, but for glory nonetheless -, he obviosly witnessed death, he led his men to doom with the avatar hunting, he changed his mind and made into Team Avatar, he saw horrible things happen to people without having control over "who lives, who dies" and I can see he telling Aang "history has its eyes on you".
Yeah, I can't see Iroh saying that "history has its eyes on you" to Zuko. I could be misremembering, but doesn't he even tell Zuko at one point that Aang is the main character and not him? (not literally like, breaking the fourth wall, but yk). And the Zuko talking to Aang approach is a lot better imo than Roku/any past avatar and Aang, just to sort of, break cliches. Edit: It also kind of reminds me of when Zuko pressed Aang about how he would deal with Ozai
@@nyandoesthings exactly. He recognizing he was not the main piece of the war, that Aang was the one important. Still, he knew everybody would be paying attention on his moves. And the episode where everyone's playing and laughing and he said "you have to decide what you're gonna do when face father" (something like that), that moment lines perfectly with this song.
It also works with Aang talking to Korra, though idk if I could really take Korra that seriously when I remember what many of Korra's solutions to problems ended up being.
@@nyandoesthings personally, i interpreted that line as like a..."those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it" kind of thing. and considering zuko becomes firelord, i think it makes total sense for iroh to say that to him. their past is stained with generations of mistakes, including their own mistakes, that could be beyond easy to fall back into.
The really sad thing is that Iroh tried so hard to get Zuko to learn from his past and mistakes instead of wanting Zuko to repeat them all. And he was so happy when Zuko finally realized. The only thing he didn't like was having to watch him suffer through it. But he always knew that Zuko needed to do this for himself. He knew when to step back and let him deal with his own consequences and when to step up and support him
*I can’t help but hear this song while reading ATLA and LOK comics that deal with the aftermaths or beyond; the protagonists won the bitter day with uncertainty to follow*
Iroh was truly a better man, ruler and father than Ozai, Azulan and Sozin combined. He has the strength, wisdom and understanding. Those three are the worse examples of leadership, if anything there’s monkeys that can do their jobs better. And if I had to go on a limb, I’m pretty confident that Ozai has done some purges himself like doctors, artists and people who he considered inferior.
@@krisandemThe throne was meant for Iroh. But Iroh's son died - his presumed heir. Ozai, the younger brother, decided to be the a-hole that he is and open his mouth to their dad saying, "Hey, I've got two kids. Make me your heir." Azulon was like "You're an a-hole so what I'm going to do is have you kill your presumed heir (Zuko) for you to understand how your brother feels." Ursa, Ozai's emotionally estranged wife, learned about this and made a concoction. She gave it to Ozai saying "the choice is yours." It's implied that Ozai killed his dad with Ursa's poison and seized the throne. Iroh was too broken hearted to care about contesting it.

Again, not always correct advice, but the thought is there. History is watching us right now, btw. I wish I could know what they'll think of us... ... probably that we were fk'd up, just like we think that of everything ever done in the past that was even slightly rude lol Beautiful animatic btw.
