    Thanks man, I've had erbs palsy and was always struggling to keep up with my left arm, my right arm has lost mobility. So thank you for being so helpful to this small effected community

    I've been searching for a way to do the bicep curl my entire life! Ive resorted to using barbells. I'm going to try this.. As for your closing comments- yes we work much harder at gym than normal people... That thought keeps me going everyday! Thanks for this Kyle!

    • @KyleStokes
      @KyleStokes  7 років тому +2

      YES! So happy to hear this. Barbells are usable for me, but honestly a lot more difficult and I personally don't feel like I get as much work in the bicep. Let me know how it goes though! If you want to try and post a video response, that'd be amazing and I'll definitely share it! Stay strong 💪🏼

    • @kratos2600
      @kratos2600 7 років тому

      Yeah I do agree to a certain extent... The pressure placed by the barbell onto the elbow area causes the shoulder to kick in which ultimately reduces the effectiveness on the bicep. However I figured that even though more weight is being lifted with my normal right- how much weight can really be accommodated by all other muscles groups without my erbs left bicep kicking in.
      Also I don't know if you Feel it too, but pain feels different in the affected arm. Much more of a sharper pain than the sweet muscular pain in the non affected one..
      Another activity I do recommend for all sufferers is swimming. Apart from weight training, the most beneficial activity I found to help me was swimming. I'm actually training for my first triathlon where the swim distance scares me and hence I'm in training to perfect my stroke. The results so far have been absolutely phenomenal. However if anyone does try this as a form of rehabilitation do Expect it to be extremely difficult at first... It does get easier with regular practice and unshakeable persistence..
      As for a video, yeah perhaps I should make one too- one day though when I feel more comfortable with the whole condition.
      For now I have to commend you bro... I'm happy to have found others like myself. Keep up the awesome work 🤙🏼

    This is SO powerful for me! I’ve always felt so alone when it comes to Erb’s Palsy. Ive always felt held back. And I’ve NEVER been able to figure out how to do a bicep curl that actually works for me! This is so exciting! My adduction is terrible in my injured arm, and I can’t bring my wrist over enough to be in line with my shoulder, especially while trying to make my elbow touch my torso at the same time. So thank you! Thank you so much! Your channel has opened up a new mindset for me. ❤️

  • @musicalibreparacreadoresde923

    Thank you for sharing that bicep curl variation, I’m a 36yr old women trying to workout at the gym with the erbs palsy from birth also in my right arm, the normal variant as worked for me I started barely with 5 pounds dumbbells, took me a year of progress to get to 12 pounds dumbbells, but at this weight my wrist started to hurt because I can’t keep the good form, I’ll try this variant for sure and hope for some more progress in this journey. We for sure need to make a 120-150% effort for a few reps, also my right arm hurts way more and take longer periods of rest to recover to keep with the next set of reps.

    I was injured during birth, and this is how I've done curls, and I'm going to be more strict with it! I'm a bench press guy, I played football in high school, strived through so much and accomplished so much. There is a surgery that breaks the arm and turns it in a way that the arm should be able to work completely normal-almost.

    Are there any other bicep exercises you have tried to do?
    I've mentioned in the other video that I have tried to support my right arm to bicep curl (similar to the one you're doing) and I've also done resistance bands. I've also started experimenting with a resistance machine as well and I use the resistance cord as the external force to hold my right arm in place and I try to curl my bicep as much as I can.

    So glad I found this channel :) . I have erbs palsy also. I've done shoulder strengthening exercises in the gym. Unfortunately my arm becomes stiff the next day. What do you do to loosen your arm after workouts?

  • @poetyc
    @poetyc 6 місяців тому

    Unfortunately, I can't do traditional bicep curl due to my range of motion with my right arm and have to do it in a form as if I'm stabbing something. My left arm is fine for traditional so I tend to do that arm as I should and the other with this alternative.

  • @BrassMonkeyMan1
    @BrassMonkeyMan1 7 років тому +1

    Are you going to do a video for shoulder workouts? I have a shoulder routine I do twice a week that definitely works my unaffected arm but I haven't noticed any visible change in the other. It has definitely gotten a lot stronger but not bigger.

    • @KyleStokes
      @KyleStokes  7 років тому

      Brandon Archer I would love to do a shoulder workout video! I’m still figuring out the best way to film the workout videos. What did you think of this format? That’s inspiring you’re doing shoulders twice a week! Keep it up, man. I think the most important things to keep in mind is just keep being consistent, and put your focus on how you’re hitting the muscle group in your arm. If that means lighter weight to achieve better form than so be it! It’s for a purpose and the results are worth it. One quick exercise I can give you is lie down on your back on a workout bench and grab two dumbbells for each arm (or one if you just want to work one arm). And look up how to do a proper chest fly. Go light weight and perform the exercise really, really slowly. Squeeze the dumbbell as you go through the exercise and I promise you, you’ll feel the burn in the shoulder, forearm, chest, and back! It’s an amazing exercise.

      Kyle Stokes Thank you. My weekly routine is Monday (chest and back) Tuesday (Shoulders, biceps, triceps) and Wednesday (legs). I repeat those for Thursday through Saturday with Sunday being a rest day.

      Kyle Stokes I didn't see the whole post. I tried it last time I went and I'm gonna do it a couple of times to see if I notice a difference before I offer an opinion. Obviously it worked for you though.

    • @KyleStokes
      @KyleStokes  7 років тому

      Sounds killer, man! Can’t wait to hear how things go from you. My week usually looks like:
      Monday: Chest/Back
      Tuesday: Biceps/Triceps
      Thursday: Shoulders/Traps
      Friday or Saturday: Legs
      And then a little abs after every workout!

    • @meshal516

      Hi Kyle. I do feel pain even if i am not working out. I usually ask my partner to massage my right hand and neck. Regards the dumbbells I can't take more than 3kg as it hurts my neck and the'' bird winging area''. I also, can't push with my right hand but I can pull. I will try your exercise then I will let you know if there is any progress. Thank you once agine for the inspiration and keep it up.

    • @KyleStokes
      @KyleStokes  7 років тому +6

      Brandon Archer I’ve had a humerus rotation and tendon transfers. If you can’t fully extend the arm, that’s okay! Just go down as far as you can and squeeze the muscle when you come back up towards your shoulder. You got this!! 💪🏼

  • @Rippitup8

    Another cool video, man. I do something similar. One thing i am struggling with, i dont know if its the same for everyone and its pretty hard to explain but here goes..
    Ive started boxing now imagine the standard defensive position, both arms upright infront of your face. I cant get my arm with erbs palsy into that position, i can push it there but there is little/no muscle for my arm to get into that position unassisted. So i can get both elbows into the correct position but my right hand instead of being directly above my elbow (imagine boxing defence) i can only get it to maybe 45 degrees.... Is there a way to build this muscle? Any exercises? Or am i pi**ing in the wind?
    *attempt at diagram* |\ lol
    Thanks for any help :)
