We had the Nokia model for about 18 months and it worked almost flawlessly. We live in a pretty remote area so we were very happy with the speeds we were getting. But something happened in the last month or so, I guess the gateway became very “buggy,” and I was frequently having to power it down and reconnect to get a decent connection. So now I guess I’ll have to try the third option and hope for the best. Does it come with external antennas or can I add one? The Sagemcom does not even support external antennas!
Hi, I am a T-Mobile customer and want to share my experience. I have the Nokia 5G21, 4 over 5 bars "Very Good" signal. The cell tower is within 1 mile apart where I live. My speeds during the day are 10Mbps Downspeed /12Mbps Up speed, and I am not happy about it. But, when I check how strong the signal is in the hours of 4 or 5 in the morning before going to work, they are much higher, ranging from 250-280Mbps Downspeed and 50-80Mbps Up speed. I am posting this here because what T-Mobile advertises publicly may not be 100 percent true, and I spoke with support a few minutes ago, and sadly, there is not much of what they can do.

@@NaterTater just picked this up from Amazon for my Arcadyan T-mobile mobile internet gateway. Any suggestions for a router? I have a small 1600 sqft ranch style with full unfinished basement and 1 cleared acre. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. MIMO 4x4 Panel External Antenna Kit for 4G LTE/5G Hotspots & Routers (Full kit)
@tang fish honestly the Arcadyan has good wifi coverage. If you want a personal router for some other reasons I typically recommend this for a simple setup amzn.to/3Z56rna but i also have videos on other router too!
Thank you for your informative videos and all the efforts. I just got one setup for my parents and being in downtown area closer to one of T mobile tower, I see the getaway is connected to B66 and N41 all the time. But the downloading is only around 200, but uploads is above 90 in average. I received Acadia gateway, not sure if there is a specific requirement or request for the new gateway, but is my situation, it might not make too much of difference then. Once again, really enjoyed your channel and thank you again for your time and efforts.
With a weak signal it’s pretty darn important to experiment with both location as well as different degrees of rotation (here in boonies) … the Arcadyan is especially sensitive to this because it has 4 different design antennas inside (LTE is in the right rear corner)…. Same position test is a good repeatable test
Which corner gets B71 the best, my setup get the best speed on B71, but it ends up getting on B2 with N71 and it's terrible. Is there a way to use some foil or something to help block out B2
@@ssclassof2000 you can use foil if you know which direction B2 is coming from but if they are all coming from the same tower, you're screwed. Use cellmapper to figure out which signal is coming from where.
Besides rotation also important to check for where its pointing to. I got a better SINR and RSRP when tilted upwards to the sky by maybe 30deg. This was important for me because I am right at the edge of n41 RSRP of about ~ -108. By tilting it up I was able to improve it to -102.

Hi Nate. I received the Nokia modem router from TMobile. I’m seeing that you have a different modem router. Would I have to call T-Mobile to upgrade to the new one
I installed MIMO antennas and my speeds are good. All my specs are good in Cellular metrics except SINR. On 4GLTE it’s at 3 and 5G it’s at 7. How can I make it better? I have a clear straight line of tower from my roof. It’s about 1.5 miles out but can see it clearly with no obstruction.
What is involved in replacing the Nokia "trash can" with one of T-Mobile's two newer gateways? Is it as simple as swapping the sim card? It seems there is scant info on this from T-Mobile itself or on the web (unless I missed one of your videos).
Subsribed to your great and informative channel / I just recv my Sagemcom gateway 8-9 days ago, and i already used your script to turn off wifi and now using my own mesh. Question: Can the sim card be switched from one model of Tmo Gateway to another - Sagemcom vs Arcadyan vs Nokia
Ive had this for a while.. the black new one. sometimes in the morning it will say excellent connection but not be putting out any actual internet connectivity. I am out of omaha NE yet my ip is out of denver. i wish tmobile did better as im literally 5 houses away from a wired tower.
Hey! How can I fix NAT D type with t mobile 5g using a Mac? The video you uploaded a month ago is for PC, it seems like a different process for Mac and I need help!
Do you have a video on NAT type? I have a PS5, and it is extremely difficult to play online because the NAT type is put on Type 3. Sometimes it goes to NAT2, but when it gets to NAT3, it's basically impossible to play games online. Seeing how T-Mobile is the only option I have at the moment in my area, I was hoping you had a way to change the NAT type or something like that
I don't and that's a limitation of T-mobile's CGNAT network. You can use a VPN to get lower/more open NAT type but can sometimes come at a latency penalty which can be equally as frustrating for a gamer. Here's an easy way to get VPN for your whole network: ua-cam.com/video/SI3aTL4HS1A/v-deo.html
Hi, i have the Nokia trash can one. I also play on the ps5. I have noticed as long as I'm connected to n41 signal i have nat type 2. When it drops to i think n71(i could be wrong on what it switches to) then it goes to nat type 3 and makes it difficult to play. I have to reboot it and then it reconnects to n41 and I'm good for a while.
Nate great video ... can these various T-mobile Gateways be moved seamlessly between two residents? Or are they strictly tied to the cell towers that support a single address? I live between two residents and was wondering if I could just bring the Gateway with me depending where I'm living. Both locations have 4G and 5G signals. Ideally these Gateways would work anywhere in the country that T-Mobile has a signal. So the question is, are these Gateways tied to a single location or can I use them anywhere T-Mobile has a signal? THANKS!
Hi Nate! Have you noticed the latest firmware update on the Arcadia disabling external antennas? Trying to see if it's just my device. When I use the stock antennas built in I get service. When I use the external antenna from one of your other videos it will connect but not output any internet. Modem shows good signal but won't actually send that signal to devices.
I dont think they have a way to detect or block external antennas. What brand/type antennas, cables, connectors did you get? What are your cell metrics?
@@NaterTater I didn't think so either but I've had the proxicast antenna plugged in with proxicast hardware for about 6 months now. It worked fantastic until the update. Now if I uninstall the antenna and reinstall the stock ones it works fine (slower because weaker signal) but when I reinstall the antenna the modem sees improved bars but won't output any internet to my other devices. Another issue is I factory reset the tower and now it won't let me set up my own network name so I can't see metrics at the moment but I'm getting 36mbps down on stock antenna which isn't bad. But had over 100 with the proxicast when it worked. They are going to send me a new device so I'll try again on that one.
@@NaterTater ok so I swapped the stock antennas back onto M and M1 ports. And then plugged the external into 4 and 5. I'm not on N41 and it doesn't seem to give me any issue. Still if I put the external on M and M1 then It won't output any internet. It's like it wants the stock antennas there or thinks it's not working or something. Either way real channel! If you have a similar issue let me know! As always thank you!

Hey Nater Tater I just found out how to bridge 2 of the Tmobile devices together. It is 100% possible because I just did it now. Plus the 2nd gateway you can have in a whole different jurisdiction from the 1st one and itll work just fine. I got one for my aunt and she loves it. Were about 100 miles from each other. With no issues it works great I'll give you an update on how it operates over time.
Handy Hint: If you're using a Nokia 5G21 and you have only a marginal (2 bars) 4G/5G combo connection while using the Nokia standalone (no external antennas), try putting it right up inside against an open window. At the best-performing window location, downloads went from 55 Mbps with LTE/N71 to 110 Mbps with LTE/N71. This after dozens of tests throughout the daytime on a Tuesday.

That's weird my nat type goes from open to strict during games with no issue are you wifi or plugged to your system?? I have xbox series s.. I have also heard ps5 has issues with tmo internet
I am using ethernet and that still doesn’t help so I’ll switch off n on from wired to wifi and the same issue continues VPN only helps for like 2 games and than I disconnect because of strict NAT
I’m confused, those speeds are lower than I recall you talking about previously for t-mo, I thought you were getting 200-500Mbps? Or is that what you get with Verizon? I thought you said t-mo was faster? …anyway, t-mo is finally saying available for a limited number of ppl in my area, but, I’m not sure about it. I have the Verizon 5G box, but no 5G towers here, it gets anywhere from 5Mbps (or less) to nearly 40Mbps, but, the ping and jitter are great, it works much like cable internet. It’s just that when I ask Verizon when they are going to have 5G here they use terms like “diligently working” and “coming soon”, very non commital. I’ve been using it for, going on six months and still waiting on 5G, with them saying the same thing they said six months (edit: make that 7 months) ago. I also use my own router, the gateway is set up as basically a modem, I don’t think you can do that with any of the t-mo gateways? I don’t really care if the speed is only 50Mbps, it’s just me so that is plenty for what I do. I’m just not sure it will be a better overall experience. (But with my current Verizon service it can have difficulty streaming HD video during the day…small city, but, large tourist traffic). …OH, Nate, so, T-mobile don’t say “unlimited” nor 50GB, they say no data cap, at least before you sign up, but, you can’t use the service for certain things, the way it’s worded I think people were bogging the towers down doing crypto coin data mining (or whatever you call it) or maybe for web servers? So, I guess it’s back to unlimited but they aren’t using that term. Maybe you can read up on it and give us an update?
@@NaterTater I guess they found this to be the issue with “too many people” on their towers, it wasn’t that so much as some people having something pulling data constantly from the tower. Makes sense. So, either they finally upgraded the towers here and can offer the service to more people, or they found out who was bogging it down and got them to stop or cancelled their service.
@@NaterTater I’m thinking of trying the 15 day trial for t-mo, if I can get the gateway locally and not do the shipping thing. Maybe I’ll get a gateway I can add an antenna to. Then tell Verizon what I’m doing and ask for a timeline on when we’re getting 5G here.
Oh, omg, also, I just checked, while Verizon is taking their time getting 5G of any kind here, t-mobile HAS upgraded, last time I checked they only had 5G extended range, now they have 5G ultra capacity, looks like on my street! …As soon as I can get there, going to t-mo store!
I have the sagemcom gateway. When it works it is great. It keeps faulting out with an internet connection issue error code WAN002. The gateway has to be rebooted. Sometimes this will happen 2 or 3 times a day. Some days there are no problems. Anyone else having this problem?
Happening to a lot of people. Sagemcom has a history of manufacturing unreliable products for ISP's. They're notoriously a bad brand for Charter Spectrum users. I'd try to request an Arcadyan if possible, it's T-Mobile's most reliable gateway as in, most users do not have stability issues with it.
Try going into a tmobile store, their website told me the same thing, but asked about it in a store, and was able to walk out with my trash can in 20 minutes.
I'm getting 50 to 100 and megabits per second with the Arcadian router. There is a tower down in my area and I believe it's the n41. Once that gets fixed I believe I should jump up to near 300 to 500 megabits download speeds
Reading all these comments its like im reading in another language i have no idea whats what all i know is that i want to increase my mbps… hey at least i know Mbps 😅
Speeds will vary greatly based on your exact location and the "feelings" of the t-mobile network of at the time. I've gotten over 300mbps but seems less common nowaday likely due to more congestion.
Garbage if there is no difference then why have different models…. T mobile answer was it’s the same 5G is 5G…I said well if that’s the case I guess T-Mobile and ATT are same thing phone service is phone service.

Once again, really enjoyed your channel and thank you again for your time and efforts.
Hi, I just picked up one and 2 weeks to keep one. I wondered is there a decisive conclusion as to which is best? Is the Sagemcom the best one to have?
I'm leaning that way, yes.

It's only an upgrade if the Nokia doesn't work well for you but yes calling is one way.
It seems there is scant info on this from T-Mobile itself or on the web (unless I missed one of your videos).
yes once you get another gateway you just swap the sim

I dont have a mac to reference and help.
@@NaterTater dang!!! Is so annoying getting NAT D on my switch, but ya your video sadly didn’t translate well for a Mac user. Any tips?

I have to reboot it and then it reconnects to n41 and I'm good for a while.
Nate great video ... can these various T-mobile Gateways be moved seamlessly between two residents? Or are they strictly tied to the cell towers that support a single address? In general shielding it with objects (ie walls, house, tin foil, etc) between the gateway and the noise. Hopefully your tower is in a different direction from the powerlines?

Oh, the other thing is, the Verizon gateway is pretty stable, not having to reboot like I read about t-mo
I think you should stick with Verizon for your needs. Both are truly unlimited but yes many ISP's have clauses for crypto mining.
