  • Todays walking tour is approximately 1 hour. We start todays walk at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, one of the cities prominent cultural centres and iconic images of the Country. The exterior of the building is primarily Art Nouveau and Neoclassical and the interior is primarily Art Deco. The building is best known for its murals by Diego Rivera, Siqueiros and others, as well as the many exhibitions and theatrical performances it hosts, including the Ballet Folklórico de México.
Walking through the plaza we find our way towards passed the Casa de los Azulejos or "House of Tiles", which we will visit later on in our tour. Passing the blue tile walls we enter a sculpture garden.
Walking further down Madero Ave, we pass street vendors and basic taquerías side by side with high-end restaurants and boutiques. All along this bustling, pedestrian-only street we find some of the cities oldest historic landmarks, some dating from as far back as the Aztec era.
Reaching the end of the pedestrian mall, we enter Zócalo plaza, the city's beating heart. The area draws tourists to museums and iconic buildings like The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven, a grand cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mexico.
Heading away from the square, we aim ourselves towards the Torre Latinoamericana, one of the cities first skyscrapers in downtown Mexico City. Its central location, height, and history make it one of the city's most important landmarks.
Once we circle back down along Mexico Cities 5th Ave, we find ourselves back at The House of Tiles. The iconic blue building is an 18th-century Baroque palace in Mexico City, built by the Count of the Valle de Orizaba family. The building is distinguished by its facade, which is covered on three sides by blue and white tile of Puebla state.
We follow our way back passed the Palacio de Bellas Artes and into Mexico Cities China Town, known as Barrio Chino. The neighbourhood is located on two blocks of Dolores Street and consists of many Chinese styled restaurants, businesses, and import goods stores.

Only in certain districts. Mexico City, which I love, is really filthy in some parts. The difference is that CDMX has the charm of very old buildings and streets from centuries ago---Spanish colonialism is alive and well in Mexico--while most American cities have the stench of 1960s/1970s postmodernist/brutalist architecture (large, ugly, soulless concrete slab structures) mixed with homeless piss. Other parts of CDMX like the Parque Mexicana area of Santa Fe are more modern and "newer" than any major city in the USA and call to mind the Vitacura/Las Condes area of Santiago (Chile), Seoul (South Korea), and the more newly developed parts of China.

@4K World Wanderings lol I lived in Mexico City for 4 years and go back every year. I live in London and Porto. Don't talk nonsense. I love Mexico City very much. It is not an Alpha ++ global city like London however and nothing like as wealthy, grand, or multicultural, but I can't wait to get back.

So true! I don't think anybody expects CDMX to be as impressive as it is, which you can see in the comments on many of my videos. People LOVE what they see. For me, it was magical; architecture, art, street life, endless food, and so much history (unfortunately Mexico still has policing issue that needs resolved -- was robbed by too many officers wearing uniforms, but never any crime by regular citizens).

One day, when a real administration arrives, we should be able to enjoy the Centro Historico again.

Oh shut up about Claudia!! What are you talking about? You’re clearly on the political opposite of her and you will trash talk everything. That’s what you do. She has done amazing things for the city. She’s not perfect by any means, like any other political figure. In the contrary, public vendors have been in the city forever, it’s part of our folklore and they’re a better distributed throughout the city than before - they are not going away. There’s more parks and public spaces than ever before in the whole city p. Before left governments took over NONE of the real corrupted governments of the PRI cleaned and made the city beautiful because theySTOLE THE MONEY - they were the real professional crooks. Regarding crime, you’re saying is the worst with Claudia when crime levels have gone down 44% (historic figure FACTS) from the last mayor(Mancera) who was the real corrupted one that let the Tepito mafia terrorize the city businesses. Everything started to change in 2000 when AMLO(current president) took over - THAT’S A FACT. You’re just here to mislead people because you’re salty that your party shrunk into historic figures because of real corruption.
