I think the main reason why people are arguing over Skillet is because people are getting the facts wrong. Yes, Skillet is a hard rock band, but that doesnt mean their secular. In an interview, John Cooper stated that they leave Christian out of their name, not because they're not Christian, but because they believed that non believers would not listen to their music if it mentioned God or Jesus every 6 seconds. And the whole point John started doing music was to share Jesus with everyone. The problem was that only Christians listened to his music, so he soon expanded to rock and metal. Soon, others caught notice of Skillet as it peaked the Billboard charts and even earned 2 Grammy nominations. Skilet has also helped many and even turned some to God. John recalls that a couple used to work in the porn industry, but when they heard Skillet's song, Hero and came to one of their shows, they changed their lives around completely.
I saw a comment from Battle Child [come at me bro] saying,″none of your lyrics even acknowledge God″ or something like that. It's pretty obvious that you have never heard a Skillet song except Monster, which probably their most popular song. There are many references to Jesus in their songs, some vivid and some broad. One easy reference is in their song, Whispers in the Dark. Its message is God is always with us no matter what, and you can know that as soon as you hear the chorus. A broad message can be found in their song Awake and Alive, which is basically a song about a man's walk with God. Another reason why Christian's are upset with Skillet is because they are a rock band. That brings up the age-old question. Is rock truely satanic? Yes, rock music can have some pretty foul language and death related lyrics. But what Christians are missing is the lyrics in Christian rock music. You can notice Skilet has never cussed or used adult related themes in their songs. Some Christians also hate it when singers scream in their songs. Most notably RED, who scream a lot in their songs. But c'mon really, how is screaming supposed to be satanic! Its not like the Bible quotes, Screaming is a sin. Overall in my opinion, Skillet and other Christian rock or metal bands are not satanic. The lyrics are what really count in a song.

Cyanorgi In other words, they sold their souls in exchange for MORE fame and fortune, which is how the industry works. If you want to reach more people and become more well known or famous, you have to sign the “contract” which is basically an oath to Lucifer. In exchange, you will become bigger and more famous. Is it worth it however, losing your soul?
Michael Lambert No no, John Cooper has gone over that too. He has a way of trying to reach a greater audience. They have been offered so much money to completely drop the Christian part of their music. They have turned it down. They don't get their music played on the radio as much as they should because of their Christian background. John Cooper has flat out said he doesn't care about any of that. He states time and again that he lives for the Lord and if it costs him money, so be it. As Christians we should be reaching out to as many non believers as we can. Skillet has found a very successful way of reaching non believers. If you can't see that what they are doing is a good thing, well that's your own problem.
Skillet's songs fill me with hope and energy and faith, something that some accepted genres of Christian music don't do sometimes. It's hard to find rock and music like skillet's music in these days. God bless Skillet!!
I went to a Skillet Concert and John said that he can reach more people this way. Their music touches more than just Christians. They don't have to mention Jesus or God in every single song. People who have listened to them from day 1 know exactly what they are talking about in their music. When people actually STOP and LISTEN to what the lyrics are, then they may actually realize what they are singing about.
I'm an atheist and I never doubted they're a Christian band... they're a rocking band and they're super nice when I met them. I appreciate what they do and what they're about

I am an old dude and I love Skillet. My son loves Skillet and we went to a lot of Skillet shows together starting 10 or 15 years ago. Skillet has a great message to give every show also they are a great band. They definitely rock as hard as anyone. I have seen them with Papa Roach, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, Creed and many other bands. Even though many in the crowds might not been there to hear about God's word Skillet always delivered the message and I am sure some in the crowd listened and were able to be helped by those words. Keep on rockin Skillet!!!!!

Generally, the doubts come from the traditional, "fundamentalist" people who live by strict cultural rules, believe that all "rock" music is "of the devil," and that the only acceptable music is 300+ year old hymns played on a piano. But it's quite clear to anyone who has eyes and ears that they really are a 100% Christian band. And still my all-time favorite. :-)
Yes, and I think I'm living with one who still has those doubts. Ever since I heard of them 10-12 years ago (one of their songs were on one of the WOW cds that my family used to play all the time in the van), they have been my favorite band. They have helped me through some of the tough times in my life. I am now almost 28 years old, my family went to winter jam this year and I went with them. Skillet was the last band to play and my family was leaving at the beginning of the first songs that Skillet played. My family being my ride, I also had to leave. Since they are my favorite band and I learned they were touring with winter jam this year, and was beyond excited and happy (but admittedly worried with my family being the way they are). I was devastated as the last time I saw them live was about 9-10 years ago and I wanted to see them perform all the new songs since then. Later on I found out that my mom thought that all the red lights and John descending on a wire at the beginning of the first song was "satanic". I was extremely upset, and mad at the whole situation. She didn't even listen (or stay to listen) to the words, the actual message. Even in my mid 20's, I am still frustrated at how my family will not even consider another pov other than their own. So yes, there are doubts whether or not Skillet are Christians. But to people who consider ALL the facts and evidence, there is no doubts in our minds. (sorry for the long reply. It's partly due to the fact that I haven't got to get that off of my chest since winter jam. It doesn't even matter if anybody reads this)

MysteriousMaysa17 It does matter. I'm 20 and I just discovered this band today. Not gonna die was the song I heard first and it made me feel so much stronger. Like u said, their style of music had me doubting if it was really Christian, but I listened to more of their songs and knew I couldn't be that ignorant to still not realize it. I know their music is gonna help me so much in the future. Thanks for your comment though, I could really relate, and I hope I someday get to see one of their concerts in person.

I freaking love Skillet. I've got people in my church that would argue that they're satanic, but Skillet has helped me through some bumpy patches. I absolutely love music with the message of "you're not alone in what you're going through," and I hear that in so many of their songs.
Rock has and will always be the devils music. Stryper wore black and yellow, isn't it weird that a secular rapper whose name slips my mind raps about a black and yellow car. Was Stryper truly a Christian band?
One of skillets album covers had a guys head all wrapped up...but wait why is one eye visible? Could it be one eye symbolism that lot of the secular people are going? Nah, it couldn't be skillet is a Christian band, why would they put one eye symbolism on the cover? Toby mac did it also. Why does skillet have a wings and a snake on an album cover? Hmmm anyone???
Satan is a fallen angel and is depicted as a SERPENT!!! Now why would a Christian band have a picture like that. It give me the wrong impression. Satan was the music leader in heaven so it's a given he is hight skilled in music. Satan will do anything and everything to take as many souls down that he can get. Wheat make anyone think that he will not try to deceive you with this so called Christian music.

With songs like rebirth and awake and alive, it's kind of obvious that skillet is a Christian band, so this video is kinda redundant to the people that already know skillet is Christian rock.

I was one of these that did not give Skillet a chance, but I love them today! I love how Jon, Korey, Seth, and Jen love Christ.

I once was into heavy metal, years back, it's just hard for me to hear their music, cause it takes me back to times, that weren't good. The bible encourages singing with a loud voice and shouting. Screaming is a sound of fear, anger, torment not faith. It's from satan's kingdom and should not be brought into Christian worship and praise. It is sad how many Christians are not discerning the difference between true anointed, heavenly music and soulishness.
Listen lady. There’s a difference between worship music and Christian music. One is to worship God to the other is positive and encouraging music to uplift and entertain the Christian. Skillet doesn’t scream. And even if they did who are you to say that’s bad? Music is about the lyrics and what’s the songs about. Not how people play it. Theres so many different styles and the only way music can be satanic is that if it’s actually worshiping satan or singing about ungodly things which Skillet doesn’t do. I grew up on the street and I've only been learning how to practice my faith fer a couple of years now....I keep feeling like people don't accept me cuz I don't lòok like yer every day Christian...when I tell people I'm a Christian they actually don't BELIEVE me!! I actually had a girl tell me "well, you look like you do drugs";

I’m not allowed to see skillet because they do tour secular (haha parents!) but that’s okay for them, because that’s how they get to reach people. I’ve heard stories about people getting saved at the concert. They would go to see breaking benjamin or whatever and stick around for skillet

The first skillet song I heard was on an AMV on youtube the AMV used hero. Instantly loved the song and I paused when i searched ghe lyric video. I said to myself "I hear christ in this song." No I didn't actually hear the words of the messiah who came down and died for our sins, but rather the lyrics felt inspired a cry or praise. And then I looked up more on skillet and there I found they were a christian band. The best part about them is you can enjoy there music even if youre not christian

Kids?!? I am a 54 year old metal head. It has been a long time since I turned to Christ. The first Skilet song I heard was Monster, and it touched me because I thought it was about the PTSD Monster. That got me through a lot of crisis. To Eventually find out they were Christian, I found faith again. After everything that I have been through since, I turn to Skillet. They tell me that Jesus is there for me no matter what. I Yell, and they are there to yell with me, and then say "Jesus loves you", and I know all will be well. Sorry. Ranting of a 54 year old vet.

The cool thing about Skillet is that you don't have to be religious to get into their music and lyrics. Their lyrics can be interpreted as being about regular love between people too, not necessarily to God/Jesus. They'll drop Jesus' name here and there, but the average non religious listener can still rock out to it without being preached to.

I've never questioned whether or not Skillet was a Christian band. Every album has at least 3 or more songs where they're giving praise and reference to the God of Heaven.

I've seen the band live 7 times, and also saw them at least once before the original member lineup was down to just John Cooper. If there was ever a doubt in my mind that they quit following a "Christian code of conduct" on stage or off stage, it would have already been obvious long before now.

I think people just can't tolerate a christian rock band with songs that are better than they're willing to admit when the band openly lyrically wise. If you don't get the metaphors go back to blocks. I'm not christian and I don't care that they are. they make good music. but thats my point any real god would want they're preachers being just that. You don't need to scream Jesus to believe in something. thats why the "Monster" is "Undefeated" and going strong.
I like this Band,and I started listening to them about 10- 15 years ago,and I started changing my life! All of those Pastors need to look in the mirror and start there,not judging! It's awesome that Skillet is doing mission work through music. It's a genuis way of sharing the Gospel with the spark of creativity. My people who clam to be Christians easy judge others because they are different. If Christ was still on this Earth, how do you think He would continue to reach to people? The Pharisees even rediculed Him for being with sinners and tax collectors. Is Skillet not doing the same thing in the world today. If you say no then you need to open you eyes and ears and hear the truth. Everything they sing is all about God Almighty and how He has changed their life in which He is glorified through the gift they have received by Him to share Him with the world.

I believe Jesus is smiling on Skillet as they go out into the world and spread the gospel. I connected with my 10 year old daughter through the music and we love skillet. Their music moves us because it does have a good message and they rock. Follow Jesus and not religion and I don't think you will ever be disappointed.

Basically people are upset because some heavier Christian bands are choosing to use their music and message to let secular people know the message. So basically we are only allowed to preach to other Christians and not tell anything to those who aren't into the worship scene or hymns right? That's so like Jesus. As an outsider that doesn't like rock, the issue isn't that they hang with sinners nor if they even mention a Jesus. The issue is more complicated and needs discernment. The issue is how do you take something rooted in satanism and rebrand it for Jesus? An example is taking the baphemet or pentagram and saying it represents The Lord. You simply can't do that. For some, the tones of rock makes the soul cringe while rap can do the same for others. Point blank, they are both hypnotic. Is hypnotism on low frequency something that God needs? No. It isn't can you use those rhythms, it is should you use them despite the message over it? As a real life example, natives use fast drumming and drugs to invoke false spirits and visions. Yes drugs enhance the experience. Fast or frequency rhythms don't necessarily need drugs. The next point is, to non-Christians (not ppl who already are Christians because the love of rock for them influences their acceptance of inserting Jesus into nondescriptive statements and words like "the light" or "the one") why are they unbothered by what this band says? The word of truth is a double edged sword and actually cuts to the heart and can even offend. This causes to question (even if non-Christians know the music is Bible based) if they can also insert their beliefs into the elusive lyrics and/or they just ignore the Jesus parts and enjoy the rythm. On the flip side, as a Christian, the spirit cringes at worldly music so it only makes sense that non-Christians most likely will cringe and reject something that is truly Christian. I digress but, this is what outside Christians question. Whether you are convicted or not, you should always pray and ask Jesus if He approves of anything. Also, ask in prayer that you'll be open to Him revealing anything non-Christian (w/o your own biased judgment) about this group or anything in any matter. Instead of defending your view: take a break from the music or whatever, try seeing the opposing view, and question against your view with the Bible. Stryper is a better Christian band, because they actually talk about and use the name Jesus. Skillet just kinda hides it, to fit in with the culutre to make more money or something. But Stryper was OUT THERE. Talking about who Jesus was, and why you want him. And still, non Christians listen to their music.
Stryper is great but Skillet has reached more people and they are called to do different things. Skillet let’s people know what their music is about but let’s people interpret it anyway they’d like.
If you want more references to Jesus listen to older skillet (anything before collide) or their worship album “ardent worship”. And it’s not that they are hiding it, their music is more of a Christian POV kind of thing. It’s about living as a Christian and the struggles we go through living in this world full of sin, wickedness, ect and rising against these things. If they truly wanted to hide it they wouldn’t talk about Jesus at their concerts or they wouldn’t still make the occasional worship style songs

Who did Jesus call to repentance? It wasn't the religious elite, but "sinners" into repentance. So what if Skillet plays in mainstream? Are they reaching out to people with their music? Does their music, if you listen carefully to the lyrics, give God the glory? In both cases, the answer is yes.

I stopped using Facebook for various Reasons. The question is like John said, if being with sinners is not what you like. What would Jesus recommend? Take care. Go out and be a witness to the world.
