Oh boy another one. This one is made by a friend of mine. I've been watching him post previews of it in my discord server, and it kinda kept my interest. He finally released it recently and uploaded a video of himself playing it to youtube. There were two problems though. 1. it was on LDM, thus not showing what the full design of the level looked like. 2. it was on an outdated version that needed to be fixed slightly due to a lack of ground spikes. Thus here I am.
In regards to the level itself, it's certainly not the best Peaceful remake, it has a lot of emptiness and copy and paste and just general, not up to snuff with the original, or even with Joyful. However, it at least put some interesting spins on some of the ideas, like that bit at about 30% where it shows one of the worms turning into a monster, and the block effects afterward. There's also the monster part starting at about 73%, I like how some of the monsters look, as well as the additional different types of monsters and the spinning background. The song choice also makes this interesting as well.
As for the gameplay, it's where this level suffers the most. Let's start at the end. I really don't like how it ends on a jump you have no time to react to, it makes the level unnecessarily frustrating. Also, starting from 49%, while the glitch part and monster parts are satisfying to watch and well synced, the gameplay is unnecessarily buggy and kinda hard to react to. The first parts are mostly okay, but I do really like the build up to the part going into the drop (that mini ball specifically).
I want to take the time to address the comments as of writing this. Many comments on the level are unnecessarily harsh or getting things wrong. One guy accuses TOYM of stealing the level for his own gain, and says "you couldn't even try to make it slightly different." Read everything above, go look at Peaceful, and come back and tell me this isn't slightly different. Another guy calls it a garbage ripoff. Most of the negative comments are calling him a thief basically, accusing him of stealing. I'm all for negative criticism, even harsh criticism can work fine, but some of this comes off in bad faith, like the people giving it either don't know what they're talking about or are just being rude for the sake of it. I do appreciate the comment from one guy telling TOYM to work on block design though, because yeah, I'll admit that does need work.
Overall, this level is interesting, and while not the best peaceful remake, I've seen worse, and I definitely hope TOYM continues making levels and can learn and improve from this one. Can't wait to see what other madness he comes up with next. :)
