German Expressionism - Criterion Channel Teaser

- Physical reality warps and bends to fit the twisted psychological states on display in the cinema of the German expressionist movement of the 1920s. This selection of some of the movement’s key works includes the quintessential example of the style, the delirious nightmare THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI; F. W. Murnau’s shivery vampire classic NOSFERATU; and several masterpieces by Fritz Lang, who, following the success of works like METROPOLIS and M, would go on to become instrumental in importing expressionist aesthetics to the Hollywood of the 1930s and ’40s.
Watch our German Expressionism series now on the Criterion Channel! www.criterionchannel.com/germ... - Фільми й анімація
I truly feel grateful to have access to a service from a company who loves films as much as I do. A museum for cinema.
0:07 that stairs shot from "der müde Tod" is gorgeous!
I hope one day to see Criterion do a Blu-ray for Metropolis someday, among many other movies I would love to see in the collection!
The last and practically complete restoration of Metropolis is already available on Blu-ray, but Kino films hold the licence and last time I looked it was grotesquely overpriced.
Great to see Criterion and Kino Lorber working so closely together to present these films!
Please release all of them on blu-ray 🙏😊
The Golem is so rare! Awesome.
Very cool- thanks Criterion!
I was JUST looking for a good restoration of _Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam_ - how did you guys read my mind?? And by coincidence, I’d just borrowed _Nosferatu_ and _Metropolis_ from my local public library right before they abruptly closed their doors for a month, before I could really go nuts watching movies from and re-reading books about this era of German filmmaking, so you’ve really uncannily satisfied my itch just as I was feeling it. 🙂❤️🎥
Bookmarking for immediate viewing, I sense a 3-day binge coming on! Thanks again!! 📚🍿👍🏼
(As a side-note: although _Aelita_ - or _Аэли́та_ - is not German, but rather from the U.S.S.R., style-wise it does belong firmly in the expressionist camp, and influence-wise it’s DEFINITELY an epochal, genre-defining, and perhaps even genre-spawning, film… I’d love to see a really good restoration of it on your channel someday!)
Hell yeah! But maybe let's not have all them expire in a month?
I took off of work so that I could finish watching the Sci-Fi collection!
Being a relatively small company, they would likely not be able to afford to license all these titles for extended periods of time. I'd rather have a steady flow of new films than have a small selection available for years.
@@fastenbulbous they are all on UA-cam
@@suspirialove Yeah, a lot of the German Expressionist films are in the public domain. I was commenting on the criterion channel in general.
Nothing is better then a criterion trailer omg I'm so hyped 🤩🤩🤩
Fantastic!
I know I'm extremely late but please Criterion , I would LOVE to see a DVD+Blu ray release of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari!! 10/10 would pick it up in a heartbeat!!
Some good scenes there.
Oh, i love this as well
Well, I am german and I can't see them on the criterion channel. It was a stunning expirience, last year, watching metropolis in a cinema with live music, but now I want to learn about other pearls from the early german cinema.
Will this be released as a bluray bundle?
"Elsiee!" in tail: this is really genial!
I thought that "Elsie" was just the right touch, too!
i have a dvd copy of "metropolis" in its almost-completed form.
Its amazing that 100 years later, Count Orlock still remains one of the scariest movie monsters of all time.
Could we get PTA in the criterion closet?
Beautiful, but we can't see it in Italy...
When are we getting the Cabinet of Dr Caligari on Blu ray?
Not from Criterion, but . . .
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (4K Restored) [Blu-ray] www.amazon.com/dp/B00N5ND6PU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_gtqDEbP4CS8SY
Eureka The Masters of Cinema from Amazon.co.uk has the best version ever of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari. That version is the only one you need. You don’t have to look for the other versions at all when you have that version.
I’m the 100:th liker of the best movies ever made and that is silent german movies and the german movies during WW2.
Ja
Metropolis!
Kino.
Howdy!
what movie is @0:40 ? kind of reminds me of Rififi
Fritz Lang's "M"
Ricardo Ribadeneira aha! That’s was thinking. It’s next on the list. Thank you!
0:14 what film is this?
Someone tell me, is this channel promoting forthcoming video releases under the banner of the similarly named company that has for years grabbed the licence for selected popular TV programs to release selectively? Or is this a TV station specialising in good films (like the one Adam Roche podcasts for?)
It is promoting the Criterion Channel Streaming Service
@@benjaminborchardt1448 thanks. I wonder what version of recovered footage they have of Fritz langs metropolis. So hard to legally get copies of the most restored edition cheaply.
what film is the shot from 0:31 from?
Der Golem!
What's the movie from 0:13-0:15?
the testament of dr. mabuse
M
