This trailer had more presence, strength and character than most of the shit coming out nowadays
You're also dumb for comparing the masters of the past to modern blockbusters and such.
abso-fucking-lutely!
It's French New Wave, baby!
Spot on 👍
@@ianbauer4703Melville didn't belong to the French New Wave generation. He started to make movies back in the 40's.
That's why French Cinema used to be a major place for movies. While the british revolutionized music, the french revolutionized cinema and all the generations were there to express it, from the New Wave, to Melville and Lelouch, and Louis de Funès
I love all his films, but Army Of Shadows is easily one of the most effective films I've seen, from any director. It gives a new meaning the term "haunting." You can't get it out of your head.
Let's not forget the foot chase scene. Lino Ventura.
Boring just completed it. I think it's not for me.
Hello, what's the best melville movies please ?
@@dixi936 Google
@@dixi936 Le samourai, Army of Shadows and Le cercle rouge.
Hopefully this may one day lead to a box set!
You know Army of Shadows is Out of Print and so are many others, and I know Wong Kar Wai's getting a box set so...
@@pedrobarragan746 really? OH PLEASE!!!!! i would love to have a box set of both of these filmmakers. melville in particular as i've seen 7 films of his so far. i want to see them all. in regards to wkw, i've seen nearly everything he's done so far minus a few shorts here and there.
@@thevoid99 WKW is getting a box next year but no word on Melville. I know Kino Lober owns a good portion of his stuff.
Exactly what I was about to write. Hopefully, fingers crossed.
Meanwhile torrent ;)
Army Of Shadows is superlative. What a wonderful and incredibly sad film. Brutal and honest.
Lino was never better.
JPM was one of a kind.
Real soft spot for Un Flic as well.
Le Doulos, Le Samouraï, Bob le flambeur...Melville was truly a master.
I agree
Le Doulos and Le Samouraï, two of my personal favorites.
Those are his best crime films, for sure, and in my top three. Le Samouraï, L'armée des ombres and Le Doulos is my personal top three, closely followed by Léon Morin, prêtre.
The red circle
I dont get the acclaim for this one. Slow, boring, shallow and surpassed by a ton of heist films.
Melville, is quite simply the greatest director that ever lived, besides Bergman and Scorsese.. would there ever been a Tarantino without Le Circle Rouge?
Wonderful Montage
This is the kind of thing that makes you want to dive back into every one of his great movies
Thanks, Criterion
I've got all of these, most of them on Blu Ray!!....Studio Canal Boxset is tremendous!...
Melville is one of the very top film makers for me with "Le Samourai" probably of my top films of all times.
Criterion did a great job restoring that one and "Army of Shadows", which I treasure.
I have Melville's Collection boxset released by Studio Canal but it doesn't have Le Samourai in it unfortunately which is probably my favourite. Great filmmaker though.
Been really trying to get around to watch Le Cercle Rogue. Thanks for putting it and other classics on the Channel!
Le Cercle Rogue is a great film, enjoy!
The 1st song is “theme de Gerbier” from the movie “Larmée des ombres”
Thank you
One of the great masters of cinema. Chapeau!!!
One of the key directors who influenced us a lot!
All of his movies are so visually striking. I love the blue tint in le samourai and army of shadows
We need this back!
YESS! One of my fav directors
WOW this would be the greatest gift ever
This gives me false hope, I believe Kino Lorber just did most of these releases. Can’t imagine CC will now get the rights back for a physical set. But it is refreshing to see them on the channel at least
Que hombre bello!!!
I've only seen Le Samourai and it's awesome.
a trailer that smells like a video essay! good job, men!
Criterion Channel can bring these films back anytime they want.
Awesome Filmmaker🎭🎬🎥
All these films used to be FREE on UA-cam !🙏😊
I love it. At 0:43 it becomes apparent that Melville is more than an art-house director
I fucking love these compilation videos!!
This dude fought at Dunkirk & latter joined La Resistance.
Great!
Army of Shadows in my top 10 all time
A veces pienso que sólo he venido a este mundo a ver cine.
Box set, please!
Yes. Most definitely.
Does anyone know how long this collection will last on the channel?
It's kinda frustrating how they add a whole director's filmography and knowing it's going to eventually be gone
Aaargh! When will the channel be available in the UK?!? I can't afford all of the discs!!
I have seen all of his films
We need a Yılmaz Güney collection, Criterion!!
13 diamonds. So rare in our senseless time...
I'm so tempted to be the first dt. I'll hold off for now.
Melville 😍
I just realised as per the other comments that there is no boxset for this!!!! How is that possible!
Probably the greatest director of crime films ... though Michael Mann has been pretty good too.
Criterion strikes again!
Get Martin Scorsese for friggin closet picks already!!!
Master
Can you please release all of these on disc please?
"Can't connect to external monitor"
RE RELEASE IT PLEASE
I BEG
Melville is my shit!
Give it to me NOW!!!
when can we, the rest of us can get criterion subscription? how long WE got to wait?
Who owns the rights to Le Samouraï in the UK? It hasn’t had an official release since VHS.
LE SAMOURAI YESSSSSSYESYESYESYESYESY
Video says "13 films" but the UA-cam description says "fourteen films." So which one is it?
you can put name films in subtitles, but is ok
when? 😍😍😍
Damn. I've only seen Bob Le Flambeur.
why show this? when I look on Criterion.com these movies are not available? what gives?
👍🏻
i've seen nearly all of JPM's films. I could never see what the fuss is about.
What’s the name of the 1st song?
So what are we talking for this right now -- 1 bill perhaps
On sale now for just one finger and a toe!
Or maybe it was Turner Classics in black & white…
What is the film clip playing at 52 seconds guy in the road?
un flic
What's the actor's name? 0:07
Alain Delon
This should be called "The complete Jean-Pierre TEALville". Please, stop with the revisionistic color already!
