- In his January/Febrary 2017 cover story, Ta-Nehisi Coates explores President Barack Obama’s journey to the White House. This short animation uses recordings from Coates’s conversations with Obama to illustrate the young president’s doubts and convictions along the way. "I think our basic assessment was maybe we had a 20-25 percent chance of winning,” Obama says of his run for president. “But what I never doubted was my ability to get white support.”

The way he speaks. I'm crying. I want to go back. I WANT TO GO BACK!
Those were the wonderful 8 years. I couldn't agree with you more. God Bless you bro.
I think people will understand Obama's value once he is gone from office
Slippery Sandals .... well I don't know about that however I think that he did and tried to do a lot of good as well
exaclly
I'm still waiting to understand his value. Still waiting.
Critic224- We understood his value long before he left and hoped he could stay. God Help America in 2020.

I would love to hear these audio tapes. Look forward to reading this article.
SAAAHHHH QUELLLL PLAIIIISIIIIRRRRR
an intellectual giant, love hearing his views on race. and now we got Trump; why did you do this white America, I thought we were cool
jason gist did you just blame all white people in the US for trumps win? that would be a big win.
ExoChaotic now you feel your race; being generalized in an unfair way and having the media reinfforce that message. welcome to my world.
The blame lies on the Southern blacks who overwhelming voted for Hill in the primary....heck, a cute puppy would have trumped the Trump...
jason gist welcome to your world? What in the fuck ever dude. A black man was just president for two terms.
Yes you can never amount to anything. Because of whitey.
I'm glad people are admitting their hatred for whites. Tells me who my enemies are. And then justifying it with "well all white people hated me."
No. I didn't hate you until you said that ignorant shit.
We couldn't elect Obama again.
As a 23 year old I basically grew up with Obama as my president. All of high school and four years of college he was president and the 2016 election was the first time I was able to vote. I remember when he was elected.
Plz Vote Blue. Help get Evil out of our whitehouse and restore sanity to America.👍💙✌

Outstanding 🙏🏿
So interesting to know all these details that he can only tell you.

Hello to everyone !

Obama is a light skin man biracial man, why is he protracted as darker skin in this video?
I don’t no
Obama is actually multicultural. His father was black. His mother was of mixed European heritage. His maternal grandmother was part Native American. If you mix that with the black blood then you get Puerto Rican; mix it with rhe white blood=Mexican. His step fathet was Indonesian. Young Barack lived there for a number of years. Additionally, he was raised in Hawaii. This give him a Polyonesian flair.
He is a true definition of the word multicultural.
@@galegibbs2183 mixed European? White on white? White

Disappointing...yep, that is the word.
So he was basically clueless as to race-relations in America. This explains his ideologies around reparations and #BlackLivesMatter

"The ideas that white people wouldn't judge me based on merit is less embedded in me..."
Wait so what you are saying is that is a black person stops believing white people are out to get them, stops believing white people hate them, stops blaming white people for holding them back, and accepts that white people will judge them based on their merits than it's possible for them to achieve something great, including becoming the President of the most power country to ever exist.
It's rare, but this one time I'll agree with you Obama, now if only you have spent your 8 years in office spreading this message instead of the "white cops wanna kill black people" and "racism is a huge issue" non-sense you actually spoke of in your speeches.
