it was all going great until the part when you change the opacity of certain polygons. It makes half of them be in the bottom layer so you can't see them. Any advice to make them only go to the visible polygons?

How would you save this to use as a background for a photo to edit in photoshop?
As in, what file type is best to save this?
.TIF files are generally the best format for maintain a high resolution. In Illustrator, you can go to File > Export > Export As, and change the "Save as type" selection to "TIFF*(.TIF)

When I hold Shift and Alt and clicked and drag, it doesn't snap. I tried clicking on and off all the "snap to" options. Any ideas?
Very clear explanations. I followed easily, except your instructions are not for a Mac. I had to pause and figure things out. For example, there's no ALT key on a Mac. It's the Option key. But I do like the tutorial. I'll look for your others. Thank you. Respectfully,

How do u make a copy of the shape that u use?

i can't find the gradient button
I can't seem to change the opacity of my selected polygons at 4.35
What should I do??
Make sure you are on the Group Selection Tool.
Do not use "Ctrl-D" when u create polygon shapes, just copy elements by hands. It's bug in some versions of Illustrator.
It's not about group selection tool, you have to delete the polygons and do them again, they have to be perfectly aligned or it won't work
