  • One of the greatest weaknesses of the 3rd Gen Dodge Ram has always been the Y-link steering configuration. Luckily, Dodge fixed this in the 4th Gen trucks. Here’s how to install it in the 3rd Gen Ram. If you have any questions or comments about this install, we'd love to hear them in the comments below. The 24-164870 you modified has 0.5" less travel than 33-170794. May or may not affect the steering. I installed the 24-164870 not too long ago and would like to reuse it like you did. Thanks again.

It looks like you have many nights camping under your belt with the Ram and the Cruiser, just figured you'd have some great tips and ideas on what worked and what you would do different.
      I just retired this month and planning on a small camp build out on my Ram with the current Snug top cap. I would really like one of the new pop top truck caps (AT Overland, Vagabond, Go Fast, etc) but everyone is months backordered. I just like to see what owners have to say about the camp shell they purchased to help decided which top to go with.
      Thanks again.

    Great video with clear directions. The part numbers list was very helpful. And I like how you get right to it, unlike some videos where the person thinks we want to hear about their life story before they get to the instructional part. Great Job. I have A couple questions though: the parts list at the beginning had the lock nuts part # as 6505623AA Then later you show a locking nut for the drag link connection to the pitman arm and gave the part # as 6505263AA. You mentioned that the same nut is used for the tie rods connections and the pitman arm connection. 1. Looks like 2 numbers got transposed on one of parts lists. Can you tell me which one is the correct part #? 2. Do I order 3 of these nuts? Or does the heavy duty steering come with the 2 for the tie rod ends already? Thanks again for a great video. I refer back to it many times as my number 1 reference for this job.

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  2 роки тому +1

      Hey, good questions! When I looked up the part numbers on Mopar’s website again, it looks like the 6505623AA is the correct number currently. I must’ve mistyped the number. As far as does the linkage come with them, it depends on where/who you buy them from. Some sell complete kits. I bought mine from a private seller locally, so I had to source everything separately. You should need 3 total. That will cover the tie rod ends and the connection at the pitman arm. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks for watching!

    I didn't here what year your truck is but was wondering if it has gone in for the recalls Dodge put out? Because there was a recall on the steering and my dealer won't sign off the recall on my 2006 because it now has this linkage with the clamp on steering stabilizer. BTW, I am checking with other dealers in case it's BS. Also, the MOOG equivalent (DS800980A) is virtually the same to the Mopar one except the MOOG one has grease fittings on every joint. But there was a recall on the MOOG ones production years 2013-2018. Does anyone have any info on newer ones since they are still being sold?
    Good video tho, I subscribed and I agreed, those jack stands made me nervous.

      First get it set on the splines. Then you can either tap on it using a socket over the shaft and a hammer or just use the nut to slowly draw it up. There won’t be enough room to use the lock washer, so you’ll have to take the nut back off and reinstall the washer after the arm has been drawn up enough.

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding

      You’re correct, it’s not a good idea to make normal use of a torque wrench as a breaker bar. In this case, it’s all that I had at the time and was able to set the torque wrench way above the torque needed to remove the fasteners. Not something I’d say to do every time, but will work in a pinch.
