The powder probably had a hard time igniting without wadding because it was smokeless powder (Hodgdon Titegroup). Most people use black powder in their bowling ball cannons. Using two ounces of fast burning pistol powder sounds pretty dangerous.

My dad was friends with a Civil War enthusiast who owned a real Confederate cannon. He used aluminum foil too. He even let me shoot it, but it didn’t have a ball in it. It was still awesome.

That was extremely dangerous, your bowlingball mortar needs cannon grade blackpowder such as Goex etc... Be safe guys PS: I also own a bowling ball mortar. 3 to 4 ounces of powder will send that ball almost 2 miles out.

Yeah that's a good idea. Hopefully the newspaper wadding will support the ball and allow the forces to be spread more evenly so the ball doesn't shatter.

I'm not sure that cannon is strong enough for continued use, maybe a cannon with thicker walls would be a better idea? That being said, this video was awesome, I definitely want to see more bowling ball cannon stuff. I'm especially impressed by the fact that that glass wasn't held in place with anything behind it, yet there was so much power that the bowling ball was able to penetrate bullet proof glass, that is pretty insane.

Definitely dangerous. The pressure differences from black powder to a faster rising smokeless may cause unintended results from that cannon
