Honestly, Conor oberst is my favorite poet. He has been working so hard for so long, some people don’t respect him, but he is brilliant: there is no doubt about it. I love him. Just use your brain

First time I cried at a damn UA-cam comment. Thanks for sharing. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sounds like she was incredible and I’m so glad you got that time together. What a gift.
Your comment gave me "the feels" thanks for sharing. I'm sorry about your loss it's a blessing to share the love of certain music with someone you love. I agree the first about the first two songs. I cover "Cleanse Song" too I think it's probably the most beautiful Bright Eyes song and one of the most meaningful to me. To see Mogis on mandolin is something special too. Can't wait to see them on tour this year!
Saw him at the 9:30 club a couple decades ago. Watched him drink himself into a stupor, each song getting better and better. Shared a cigarette after and my life was never the same for that conversation. So happy he found happiness.
I’ve always had rather extreme emotional reactions to beautiful music since I was a kid (certain melodies or chords just make me cry and I don’t know why), but no other artist can bring those emotions out of me quite like bright eyes.
So excellent.. I just got back from the hospital and I'm so sad and Conor is all I want to listen to right now.. so I selected this one. The best. He understands. He knows . He's been there and that's all I need to know right now.
I really love the new album. Conor is such a clever person. His words make me question as well as make me happy to know I'm not the only one feeling a certain way.
Me too! So glad they played it. One of my favorite Bright Eyes songs and maybe the most beautiful of instrumental arrangements. Mogis on mandolin is amazing in this version!
i did a cover of first day of my life at our high school talent show in 2007, and won! even the janitors came up to tell me how much they loved it. bright eyes is the shit!
Many thanks! As an artist and mother myself it’s been inspiring connecting with a wider community through motherhood and keeping going with my independent music. We need more examples of empowered parents like this around!around the world!
I remember him when I was a college freshmen in 2007 and heard cassadaga and knew they were special. I’m so happy they are back. Makes me think of better times and be thankful they are still playing.
I discovered Bright Eyes at the beginning of 2014 and for all those years I was sure I would never get a chance to hear new songs, and I am also very excited they are back. They are probably the only band I am still a huge fan since middle school.
My older sister introduced me to bright eyes in 2002 (I was 12). She had a room mate who gave her a copy of fevers and mirrors. She didn’t love it, so she gave it to me, and I was hooked. LIFTED was already out at that point, but I hadn’t heard it yet. She gifted me the LP for my birthday a few years later, and I’ve been collecting records ever since.
Conor is a poet who's been working on the same poem that ties every human feeling, every human thought, every human emotion, every human movement, every human interaction, every human being, together. Good for him.

Best fourteen minutes and twenty seconds I have spent in quite some time. I somehow missed this pandemic lockdown performance and now I am so pleased to have found it. I saw Bright Eyes last summer in New Haven on the first leg of the tour for Down in the Weeds- one of the best shows ever with the 14 piece orchestra backing on the more symphonic tracks. Wish I could've seen him the second time around this year
The first time shook Conor's hand I did it because he was able to survive the greatest musical performance I had ever witnessed in person. I believed in my heart he was going to commit suicide right in front of me like kurt cobain but right in front of my face. I had never seen such intensity in person before or since that night. For me when I shook his hand afterward it was a biblical level miracle I witnessed with all my senses the fifth being the touch. I could taste the moisture of sweat fuming earlier and smell the spirit and see a maniac and hear the tears.
I have an endless amount of love for connor, but i swear, every single time i listen to his music...i cry...a lot...and...i cant not. No matter how many times ive listened to any of his albums, there is not a single one that i can make it through to the end of, without shedding a river of tears.
I told my uncle george christmas morning I had witnessed the greatest musical performance and had no idea it was even going to be them playing there when I got there.
For my 16th birthday (2013) I saw Bright Eyes, My morning jacket, and M. Ward in Vegas at HoB. I yearned out "I love you Connor!" And he looked through his emo hair and said right to me "I love you too." Unfortunately, Conor, I moved on, got married, and started a family of my own. Still love your voice though.
i still love everything bright eyes. i should have given conor the very long love letter i wrote him when i was 16 ... now i'm 34 and still thinking I should send it to him. i have a masters in poetry and conor is probably responsible for that
My far away famous friend, known you since 99, yeah way back when; though we have not met. Still can't find the lovers we don't have to love, not yet. Our relationship began with a sunrise, sunset, you sang me such a perfect sonnet as I sat alone in the basement. I love you connor.
You get your life together lol. He already inspires lots of people, has been for more than 30 years. He is allowed to be a mess, he's human. That's not any less inspiring. As a matter of fact one could argue seeing humans be human is more inspiring than pretending everything is perfect. You should see what some of these "sober" artists are into....it's pretty gross
Dear Conor, If I may, I'd like to carry you around with me everywhere I go. You can sit on my shoulder and sing to me all those brilliant thoughts that form in your beautiful mind. I mean, if it's cool with you. I love you! Since I first lay eyes on you in Los Angeles on valentines day in 1999? Maybe... I forget the exact year but somewhere along there. Thank you for sharing your talent with us! XoXo

Conor's music completely changed my life when I discovered it back in 2002. For this, I'm forever grateful.
Some days I just need to hear this man's music, this band is healing.

I’ve always had rather extreme emotional reactions to beautiful music since I was a kid (certain melodies or chords just make me cry and I don’t know why), but no other artist can bring those emotions out of me quite like bright eyes.

It's hard to find a person who has written as many great songs as Conor.
I am very glad he has grown his sound from just acoustic guitars to a very well rounded interesting sound.

THIS Non Grata 😍👍
LET’S SING (everyone!!)
Getting dressed for a date
Put on blue aftershave
Wore a kilt like a Celt
Hid the way that I felt
Combat boots, fallen leaves
West Village Halloween
To a Bollywood song
Taking shots 'til we're gone
Unwelcome in the autumn
Persona non grata
I'm the last of the best
I'm your thoughts in the swamp
There's a playground of children
In the shadows of buildings
There's a line out the church
Where your homelessness works
Where the stain glass of crimson
Meets Ezekiel's Visions
Saw a valley of bones
Where no man shall be saved
And now you, you come to me asking that
And now you, you come to me and you're asking that
Oh, how can we reconcile?
Left your innocence there
In Tiananmen Square
You were filled with despair
Underfed and depressed
Vacant lot where a prison stood
God knows you never would
Lie to yourself
But you do every time
Made a life of deception
And passive aggression
Going to scream when I sing
Going to die in the rain
Turn me on, you're a knockout
Climb up on to my cloud
Do your worst to me now
Before I change my mind
And now you, you want to be true to me once again
And you want me to be true to you once again
Oh yeah, you, you want to be true to me once again
And you want me to be true to you once again
This is excellent. Simply excellent.
