Nepal's mercenaries fight for Russia | DW Documentary

- The war in Ukraine is thousands of kilometers away, yet Nepalese combatants are risking their lives fighting alongside Russian troops.
Recruitment agencies smuggle young Nepalese men into the Ukraine war - they are supposed to fight for Putin's army. They are promised a good income and Russian citizenship.
But reality often looks different. Those who return complain about lack of payment and the terrible war routine. It's a life-threatening mission, many Nepalese are killed in the process. Yet, this doesn't deter some young Nepalese men, like 25-year-old Sonish, who is determined to go to Russia.
A report by Adil Bhat.

Being from Nepal, it's truly sad to see how false promises seem more plausible than finding a job in Nepal itself. Nepal's extractive system and unstable government have crippled the economic growth and in turn promoted a mass exodus. I guess a revolution led by educated anti corrupt people is the only soultion.

In this world being poor is a curse. You either die or do whatever it takes to make money. Hence the root is money, hence the sad reality is that we humans have put money over humanity. It's not just about Nepal it's about this whole world, it's about what we as humans have become. And as sad as it really is, the reality is that nobody cares. Nepali men fighting for Russia is not the same as joining the British Army's Gurkha Brigade. Russia will use the men as fodder and exploit Nepali poverty. These men should train and try the Gurkha selection process and not throw their lives away needlessly. If Russia isn't paying it's own troops regularly. As a foreign mercenary they'll likely see no money and have any pay stripped from them on the preface of the equipment and provisions they are given. They won't be registered a Russian soldiers. Seriously? 😂 That needs explaining to you?
If British were in war it would be the same@@angusgus123
Seriously these people joining Russia war aren't trained well while gurkha are trained since 16 year old
Nepal govt banned nepalese to join india army agni veers scheme.. due to which many are joining russia army for a living
Spending $6000 to reach Russia and $3000 to escape the War. I dont see any poverty. Nepalis reputation as Gorkhas warriors is at severe risk.
They are not gurkha
Gurkha have to be trained from teenage so they can build their stamina and gurkha are selected from specific ethnic groups which I don't see here
Some Nepali join French foreign legion, some Russian army...... Nepali just want uniform without War...😀😀😀....To show off tik tok video in uniform 😀😀😀😀....But actually war is not their Cup of tea...
But West don't see Nepalese Fighting for U.K & India for Century 😅😅😅😅😅
that's bitter truth!
Lol
India is second home for Nepal 😂😂😂
First let me get proper information about India and Nepal
Can't get money if your dead.. not that you will get it anyway..
How about Dutch people on the Frontline fighting in Ukraine against Russia? Make a documentary on that too?
Nepal should create state owned mercenary company. Train them properly and offer their service.
When Western fighters join the Ukrainian 🇺🇦 army, they are freedom fighters, but when other fighter's joins the Russian army, they are mercenaries. I don't get it. Russia is also fighting for it freedom
No they are not. Russia can always just leave Ukraine.
@@fabik805no it can’t Crimea is Russian soil
@@AlexPortela-ch2lm No, Russia has been occupying Ukrainian-owned Crimea, but Crimea still belongs to Ukraine. Listen to Putin, he thinks Russia owns most of the planet, but most of the planet disagrees and is willing to defend themselves against Putin.
I'm from a third world country and honestly the world is a mess and I partly agree with him, I don't agree with participating in a war, but as he said in this world you need money otherwise you don't do anything, unfortunately everything in this world The God is money, people like me in my country are unemployed, without expectations, they are increasingly replacing people with robots, what will our future be? Without a job, without anything, what is the expectation to live like this, besides that in third world countries everything is rubbish, unfortunately I don't see solutions for this life and those who work earn about 250 dollars a month, it's a shame
surprised they're actually returning the remains of some of the "volunteers" ... prolly in order to not incense the people/government too much i would wager. :/ not to mention that AFAIK (and i don't know if this applies to foreign soldiers fighting for Russia) if you want to get the promised bonus in case of death as a surviving widow or such, you actually need to have the body which makes it all the more sad. :( esp. when you listen to these guys and hear out that they're not going in to fight for glory or a just cause, or even with any intentions to kill quite possibly, but just to escape the throes of poverty / bad economy in Nepal. :(
Oh no Nepal 😢🇺🇸❤
